  1. Beirut have cancelled all european dates this summer. They, or him maybe, remind me a bit of Calexico. Tough Beirut is a bit slower and more "gipsy" in their sound. Currently I'm deciding between Rockwerchter and Roskilde. Radiohead and Neil Young play at both but Roskilde is a great place to discover new bands.
  2. Hard to top this one though: Ken lee
  3. Like Paul, only one from each or it would be full of The Wire characters. In particular order: Omar - The Wire David Brent - The Office Agent Cooper - Twin Peaks George Constanza - Seinfeld Ari Gold - Entourage Paulie Gualtieri - Sopranos Dexter Morgan - Dexter Jon Kavanaugh - The Shield Brenda Chenowith - Six feet under Nancy Botwin - Weeds
  4. Yeah, I know. After months, maybe a whole year without fresh The Wire episodes I've seen the four previous seasons over again and waited for season 5 to finish in the US. I've now watched season 5 this week finishing this morning at 4am. I'm lost for words. I rate the four above mentioned shows as the best of all time along with Twin Peaks (the first 8 episodes is so good that the mess in the end is excused). I've only got two seasons of The Shield left. What now? Any TV series out there, or in the pipeline, that can substitute these shows?
  5. Yes, but he got better in 2nd half. That might be because of the tempo going down am afraid. His passing was woeful throughout.
  6. Their lawyers are looking into it, but the it's belived that they won't go down that road. I think Mikel will be a fantastic player for Chelsea. Already a top player at the age of 21.
  7. True that. And not much better than "The End" in the beginning of Apocolypse Now.
  8. 10 more minutes and they will have their 1-0 lead
  9. Gotta love Rafa in interviews: Reporter: Why do you play with one striker? Rafa: No. We played with Torres, Babel and Kuyt, all very offensive players. And Gerrard and Lucas in the end. So five strikers.
  10. Yes. Now I have. And I don't think this is just temporary disappoinment speaking.
  11. That is maybe the one 'clue' I've thought most about in The Wire. I think he will be exposed and forced out in season 5. Or it may not be. But what then? Is it to underline invulnerability or just to give us a glimpse of the 'real' Rawls as private person? Surely it's not because every american tv series need a few gay people in it. One open gay and one closet gay. The Wire is far too sophisticated for that.
  12. I thought the same for a while. But as pointed out, Barksdale lost his best soldiers and was stuck to promoting cornerboys who wasn't ready or cut for being proper soldiers. I started to get the feeling that Marlon, due to his ruthlessness and soldiers (Kris and Felicia - the use of a nail gun was a master stroke in their line of business) would do Barksdale. Brother Mouzone or that reformed boxing trainer - forgot his name - would be their only potential saviours .
  13. I am all wired up again! Season 1 is playing on national television and season 5 opening in U.S. I'm not sure how to deal with season 5 yet. I agree with Kop that downloading episode for episode is not ideal for Wire-junkies like me. On the other hand: how to keep your hands away from fresh episodes? I think I will start watching season 4 over again. I just realised that I had forgot that Stringer Bell got done in the end of season 3 and not season 4. Time for a rerun. As for charaters: 1. Omar. The code. The game. The tie in court and the answers to the DA in court. 2. McNulty. The hero in season 1 and this still sticks. The "fuck" crime scene investigation. 3. Waylon. Played by Steve Earle. The speech that made Bubbles cheat himself to a '24-hour-drug-free-bracelet'. Earle is a talented actor. 4. Bodie. The definition of street smart. 5. Bunk. The co-op with Omar and the "fuck" crime scene investigation. 6. Michael. I'm with Paul on him. 7. Stringer Bell. Evil with a brain. Baltimores Michael Corleone. Wants to go legit. Michael got pulled back in. Stringer got pulled out. 8. The fat chief of Bunk and McNulty. Forgot his name. Doesn't give a shit what people think, love other peoples misery and know how to play the politics game and be still be real police. Got a good heart as well underneat. I'll be a happy man if they ever make a tv-series of this quality again.
  14. Yes. Just finished watching it on NRK3.
  15. He is indeed. I second everything Lebron has written on this thread. If we had money, and some of it was to spend on a 4th central defender, Hangeland wouldn't be a bad choice. But every penny, if we got any, should be used on attacking players.
  16. Okay, maybe that gamble would be worth taking to keep The Chief. It could take years before we found another defensive midfielder as good as him. And we probably need more than a striker to win the league. So then it would be better to build a team with the Chief and find the needed striker/winger and left back later. Hopefully this will stay as a hypotetical question.
  17. One quaity striker. Thats more needed at the moment. We could cope with Gerrard/Alonso/Lucas and Momo. But we can't challenge for the title with Kuyt, Voronin or Crouch playing regularly.
