  1. there doesn't seem to be a single response which says Moores coming out to see the two lads was a decent thing to do? I know most of you believe he sold to the yanks for the extra money, I never have belived that, I think he acted on faith but was mugged off - whichever way I still think it was a decent thing for him to talk
  2. Not getting how you can support the club, sing benitez's name but then say we dont support the manager one of the things which makes us unique is the fact we are patient, we do associate with the manager - shankly started that affinity and long may it continue or is that another tradition we should ditch because we've been shit this season? liverpool are and always will be I hope a club - fans, players and manager, the holy trinity - the players may need to be reminded of that fact - to stop hiding behind excuses and play the fuckin game to win it - benitez carries the can and the players know it - their current performances are shite and I'm beginning to get the feeling they've given up and would be quite happy for benitez to take the flak for it - however the players aint far behind - they are currently acting like gutless worms - and so are the fans now maybe its because we've hit on some master plan to get rid of the parasitic owners who are asset stripping the club like a pair of fuckin ghouls - maybe tail spinning into mediocrity will make those two twats sell out and piss off - its the only silver lining I can see - but sacking rafa is stupid at this time - fans, players manager we've all been shit
  3. And thats the problem isn't it because you have to be one thing or the other? You can support the manager without doing it blindly. Benitez struggles with motivating the players - he's also a brilliant tactician and planner - he's emotionless like its a game of chess and doesn't appear to react to whats happening in front of him but he also comes up with some brilliant innovations and methods. Some of his transfers have been crap others have been brilliant. Its not black and white like most things its a dingy gray. For me the glory hunters are the loud mouthed arseholes who demand success but can't be arsed understanding the problems in achieving it, who hark back to old trophies as though they get you an 18 point lead in the league, there the cretins who say we should win the title because we are Liverpool , not because we work harder, not because our team spirit is second to none, not because we never give in, not because we earn it but just because who we are. They support the club based on reputation not understanding and there as many scousers who fall into this category as oots. Our current form is shit, the manager should be fixing it and he isn't, if anything its getting worse. I aint blindly supporting the manager i just dont agree with the crap thats been directed his way this season - those who say they support the club and then undermine it, need to take responsibility for it - blaming the manager gives the players an excuse, blaming the owners does for the manager - none of them have been good enough but neither have the fans - we definately get what we deserve.
  4. if its accepted that slagging the manager or players off is everybodies right do any of those people take any responsibility for the appalling lack of confidence currently running through the squad? are those who have been moaning about the manager and players for underperforming ever looked in the mirror at their own gutless performance as a supporter and thought I get what I deserve? We currently see great players looking average and average players looking poor - there is one underlying reason and that is confidence - the type of confidence drained from players like Lucas, Kuyt, Babel, Carragher by continual abuse both at the match and away from it. The manager himself looks baffled and unable to fix what is wrong. I get the impression those who've been slagging the manager off for the last 6 months are begining to feel smug and justified rather than ashamed and responsible. Maybe thats just me though.
  5. Thats the thumb of a girl. That is definately not a real mans thumb.
  6. There are a million reasons why the bench might have been as it was - perhaps johnson wasn't fully fit and cover was needed in case he broke down, perhaps Pacheco had a cold, perhaps Voronin is lined up to move out in two weeks and we dont wont to risk and injury and the 'criticism' therefore tells its own story you see or dont see what you want to support your argument - everybody does, doesn't make you a bad person necessarily
  7. Champ manager strikes again - great game - you list all the players as shite and then put millions of pounds against each of them - if they are shite then why would we get anything at all? If Kuyt is that bad who pays £10 million? And if a new manager comes in and has a fire sale then we get even less than nothing. Aurelio's contract is up this summer btw The new manager comes in and what is the target? League title? In how long?
  8. eh? did we play awful football 2nd half against Fiorentina? first half against city before the injuries, against united? did we play awful football against hull, burnley, stoke? were we awful against Chelsea? one of our worst performances was against everton and we won that we were atrocious against spurs, shocking against sunderland, stupid against Villa - we have put in some awful performances - everton and blackburn were dour and horrible but why say we play 'awful' football when we've played as many decent games as bad - whats lacking is the confidence and belief to do what we did last season - or did we finish last season playing awful football as well -we've played some awful games so far this year - but unlike with houllier I dont think the plan is to actually play 'awful' football, I dont think the intention is to sit back and hit the ball long - I think benitez has more to him than that but we are getting it badly wrong through individual mistakes and a lack of confidence only one of which is benitez's fault
  9. Yep some typical deep thought gone into that reply. Thats despite having no money to pay Hiddinks wages and the fact the bloke has stated he does not want a club job, and that he wants to be a technical director, despite him now being 63, despite only having one club job in the last 10 years and that with the richest and strongest squad in the country, which he said was too much for him, despite failing to qualify for the world cup with russia - yep he's the most obvious choice as a caretaker manager. Is he expected to get 4th? No suprise with the follow up either just gets better and better. So you bring Maureen in and tell him he has no money. What is he expected to deliver? 4th? 1st? the league cup? When is he expected to deliver it? Year 1, Year 2? Year 3? Reality is Sven and Steve Mclaren are probably available that would be a dream team, Chris Coleman and Lawrie Sanchez,David O'Leary, George Graham they should all be willing to come in and give the squad a lift. Collymore would probably be up for it as well
  10. Phil Taylor struggled with the pressure, Souness couldn't handle the failure and Evans was effectively replaced in the summer with the ridiculous dual manager set up which was just a bottle job by our board. They all wanted out, although Roy's press conference brought a tear to the eye. Same end result but its a lot different to being 'sacked'.
  11. Fair comment on the 141 but 70 is still too bleedin high - of course no way of knowing what it was in the past and there have probably always been some - still get the feeling those 70 are the ones brushing past you on their way home with 10 minutes to go and your 1 - 0 down Dont know why you'd think I wouldn't understand about previous managers? One thing I do like at the moment is the way the press can't figure out why people still support the managerjust shows how fuckin clueless they reallly are
  12. The opening poll says sack Rafa now = 70 + votes Houllier wasn't sacked mid season, was he? Nobody has been. There is a difference between reacting to some crap results and stinking performances and assessing what needs to be done at the end of the season. If its better for all concerned at the end of the season so be it but thats a long way off and plenty will happen one way or the other before that
  13. So is Rafa part of the Liverpool Family? wasn't he made part of it in 2005? but its ok to sack him when it suits? nice family. the idea that the tradition of not sacking a manager in mid season is outdated is ridiculous. The idea that somehow times have changed and its now good business to sack a manager is farcical. its about screaming and screaming until your sick if you dont get what you want now - its a tantrum from kids who want everything and know the value of nothing - another plasma on the credit card without the money to pay for it it seemed to be working fine at the end of last season 3 months later and the bottom lips are wobbling You judge the manager on his performance over the season not 10 games, not 20 games, not 30 games. rafa has not done well enough this season, he gets the chance to put that right before the season finishes - he's still got the europa cup, fa cup or league title challenge or just decent football and a team to be proud of in terms of the Champions league I could live without it - a glorified money spinning pile of shite especially in the group stages - if it was a choice between a european super league , with city franchises and a domestic league I'd opt for the domestic league every time - football is supposed to be about community not money - football and socialism should go hand in hand -I dont think its a coincidence that the traditional working class teams of the 60's have been replaced by the middle class glory hunting teams of the same era -big business - the cost of everything and the value of nothing -
  14. What we didn't have bad times in the past? Rafa's been on a string of poor results which hasn't been matched since.......Dalglish, Shankly performed worse and we were in divison 2, Souness took us to mid table mediocrity........... "This world" ???? - One where money is everything and you shaft your family for the 'silver' - we have to change to fit in with that shit ?- fuck that. This world is exactly when you stick to what is right and not what is 'profitable', when you show integrity and not knee jerk. This time has showed me what I needed reminding of- that I'd rather be in the championship doing things the right way than sell me soul and pander to the sky generation. It takes a 100 years to build tradition and one moment of madness to destroy it. We have a pop at the owners for their failure to be custodians and then a third of our own fans show that they are just as fuckin clueless.
  15. the lack of money may mean there is no choice but next year I'd hope Pacheco and Eccleston are available to fill in across the front line kacaniklic looks a little lightweight at the moment and Amoo although physically ready needs to learn how to play the game - he'd struggle to get on the ball at the moment imo(much like Walcott does for arsenal) - mavinga looks a real shout for left back though and for me he'd be ahead of insua but I aint seen him in training wisdom is well advanced for his age and it would not be a surprise to see him come in at right back in the next 2 years - a couple of the U18's really look to have ability and athleticism but it'll maybe take them a while longer to make an impression if kelly could stay fit he's obviously be in with a shout although he must eventually be a centre half
  16. We haven't sacked a manager mid season that I can remember that's near enough 50 years. There used to be an idea that we were somehow a class apart yet most of what I read is about as far away from that idea as its possible to get. the idea that the club stood for something used to have real currency but today its just seems like piss and wind we are Liverpool Football club that is supposed to mean dignity and professionalism, yet over a third have voted to sack a manager who has shown dignity, loyalty and commitment to the club and on occasion (like Japan) beyond what should be asked. I think its a sickening state of affairs and shows more than results how the club is changing
  17. Can't believe the total shite on this thread Platt is useless but when he says something you cretins agree with he's right this time Souness back as manager after he shat on the club, its fans and the city and was our worst manager, ever - absolutely fucking clueless sky fed dickheads
  18. Looking at the pro's on our books I think you could get shut of 25/26 players including two full teams from 1 to eleven Carvalieri, Degen, Dossena, Kyrgiakos, San Jose, Plessis, Spearing, el Zhar, Voronin, Babel, Reira Itandje/Mihaylov/Hansen, Mendy, Insua, Threlfall, Darby, Duran, Weijl, Flora, Nemeth, Brouwer, Bruna wages alone would save us millions and we'd still have 3 other teams, it would create opportunities for the kids to step into the stiffs and the stiffs to come into the squad - finding someone to take all of them them may be a problem mind
  19. amidst all the doom and gloom, the way results have gone today - if we win our next three games, big IF, and other results go as expected, chelsea keep winning, united keep winning, then we could actually beat arsenal and go 3rd in 2 weeks time - get a little bit of belief from tomorrow and it could change very quickly.................
  20. How? Because the game used to be about passion, emotion, intuition - we used to discuss the match and the players and now its the board and the wages. It takes any joy and spontaniety out of the sport, there is such a thing as too much knowledge when it takes all the intrigue, mystery and debate out of something, like being told the score before you've watched the game I know the world has moved on and a lot of the 'innocence' and naivety has gone doesn't mean people have to like it though The book sounds brilliant, appropriate and informative but its a reflection of the times football = business not sport football = middle class intellectualism not working class passion no harm in prefering simpler times Wont stop me getting it though
  21. Because SWP was ripping Insua apart and he needed help - Yossi was dead on his feet - aurelio shored it up and provided something going forward - aquilani for Yossi would have done little to help - I'm sure he would have played but for the two injuries, he may have come on for Stevie though
  22. Fabregas was a prodigy of barcelona and debuted at 16 about a month after joining Arsenal Anelka had already played for the PSG first team when he arrived at Arsenal at 18 Clichy had a full season in France before joining Arsenal at 18 almost all of Arsenals super kids arrived at Arsenal at 18+ and are exceptional when they arrive - Wenger is certainly excellent at spotting talent ........Henry was spotted by Wenger when at Monaco Wenger originally used him as a left winger( I think he's trying exactly the same with Walcott.....probably far more about allowing it to blossom than developing it in the first place. Ferguson had a phenomenal group of players come through which has not since been repeated, only if it had, could you claim Ferguson was anything but lucky. And both of them can pay enormous sums to attract the talent they do - although we've never heard of many of the kids in question - the likes of denilson, ramsey, song, diaby, etc were all being chased by many of europes top clubs giving them a head start in the 'developing' stakes.
  23. interesting that you think the two things are different for me they are just two parts of the same thing in both you need players who can adjust and adapt to whatever the circumstances are on the pitch - players who can switch from attack to defence seamlessly - think rafa introducing johnson/degen or dossena/insua is a big part of that - freedom can only come from other players taking responsibility and recognising when and where to be - can't it?
