  1. My sister is a secondary school physics teacher - been doing it abut 6 or 7 years now and is on late 30s i think which is not bad i reckon. She works hard (but doesn';t do the ridiculously long hours) and she is rewarded with the holidays when they come round (much needed). She worked in industry for 10 years before going into teaching and reckons that so many of the teachers that work till 11 each night just create work and faff around so much. She gets in before 8 and leaves before 5 and generally does the necessary within those sort of hours - give or take the odd evening or weekend when something extra is required. And don't forget teachers are still on a final salary type pension scheme. To anyone working in the private sector would need a pension pot approaching a million punds to give themsleves an equivalent pension of £15-25k per annum when they retire. The pension divide between public sector workers and the rest of us is going to become more and more of an isue as the disparity and inequality is now so vast. 10% just makes the profession look ridiculous in the current climate. Is this just the NUT asking for this or the others asweel (is it still the NASUWT or are they called something trendy now).
  2. TK has covered most of it. Contact your own house insuerer in the first instance. Get your policy book out first and read the small print. There will be something about cover for damage caused by tree roots / clay shrinkage / subsidence etc . As you say you have had damage before and repaired it at your own expense the insurer might query whehther you gave them notice of the problem before policy inception - insurers so often look for anything to avoid paying out - and they will often try and point to something like that as material none disclosure of relevant information (which they could try and use to refuse cover for the damage). But before you even think about contacting your neightbour in a formal way or va his insurance etc I would look at making a claim for the repairs and damage on your own policy first. If it covers damage from encroaching roots from adjoining propoerty then thats the easiest option all round. Thats why you pay your premiums. If you can avoid a headache of having to puruse your neighbour yourself then do that. Local Auth for TPO info. Land registry search for copy of title register for owner details if you need it. But insurer first.
  3. I had to prompt her to watch the first 3 episodes but now she is really into it. I've avoided the hard sell too much and she has quietly been drawn in. She even suggests we watch it off the Sky+ planner now without me prompting. Amazing. We did still watch Lewis last night though . . . . . .
  4. would always get the Howard up for a boogie circa 1996. Ah happy days. Chaxio and Davier. Legs.
  5. My wife is going to hate it. I know she is just to piss on my bonfire of enthusiasm for it. She likes anything with Robson Green in it. The only clips of the wire she has seen are early bits with people saying "yo motherfucker". She wasn't impressed and i know she has made up her mind to hate it. By the way are BBC2 just running series one back to back in the space of a fortnight? Surely they're not going to run one series after another ? I agree that their scheduling limits its audience massively.
  6. Advert on telly last night for OK magazine and their dead Jade special. "As a nation mourns the loss of it's favourite reality television star. . . . " ? ! Even my wife did a double take at that.
  7. I like to know whats going on in the Rhonda when I live in Wirral. Can't get anything else via terrestiral. BBC Wales, HTV and S4C. That's it - not even ch4. Thats why I pay my cash to Rupe every month. Telly in the bedroom is like a throwback to another age - 4 channels and only 3 of them are even broadcast in English. Bora da.
  8. 16th October 2006 ? I must have been skiving when i posted this. Can't remember it tho. Early onset Alzheimers.
  9. Camping near Aberwrystwth (sp?) at whit half term. My wife said "can't we go somewhere other than Wales this year?" . Is she mad ? God's own country. Where could be better than Wales ? So might have to try camping in Dorset this summer as a none Welsh venue.
  10. Novelty news item. At least it bumped Jade Goody off (off the news that is not off off). I think Chris Evans opened it didn;t he? He's had the woman on his prgramme on Radio 2 a few times. Pretty dull she is but Chris is really trying to big it up. He wanted the first 1/2lb of pick ' n mix and you can bet your bottom dollar he won't be back after the publicity has died down and the shop dies a sad but inevitable death.
  11. He was in Dictionary Corner on the 5.30am repeat of Countdown this morning. That'll be vexing the grey vote.
  12. The best Woolies I've been to was in Pwhellhi (spelling ?). It was the nearest thing to a department store there. We were camping last year and i remember what we bought - it was such a weird eclectic mix of stuff. Kids wellies, extra socks, plastic wine glasses, washing up bowl, charcoal, maltesers and a map. Ace. (I know - disorganised campers).
  13. Cameron is just about sort of ok i suppose. However a national government of unity lead by Ken Clarke with Vince Cable as Chancellor and Harriet Harman and Jackie Smith swinging from the nearest lampost. Now thats a vision of the future that would re-ignite my interest in politics.
  14. Widnes ? That's pushing it a bit there mate ;) (says he living in Ellesmere Port and Neston !!).
  15. Clothes wise wear what you like just so long as you have the right headwear Just like that.
  16. Sitting here on my own in work singing the theme tune. Dern de de de dern de de dern de etc etc Ace. ("Quit your jibba jabba" - repped Noos (if i knew how)).
  17. Its not a Vango Diablo 900 by any chance is it ? We've just bought one 2nd hand which is that spec - only been used once - £150. Seemed like a bargain. But i'm wondering how long it is is going to take to put up as its pretty massive with lots of poles and more ropes than a tall ship? Can't wait to use it though and actually be cosy in the living area instead of our current draughty model which is freezing as there are big gaps round the fly sheet and no inner tent apart from the bedrooms. Hoping the Diablo will be the business.
  18. Camping is ace - the kids absolutely love it. I'd endorse the recommendations for Home Farm in anglesey - v posh. Shell Island near Harlech is a must - but avoid bank hols it gets packed and the loos struggle to cope. For great location but simple camping with spotless loos try Bolmynydd at Llanbedrog near Abersoch. Llanbedrog is a NT beach with a cracking little beachside bistro. Cant recommend it highly enough. Bolmynydd Camping Park - Family run 4star Welsh tourist board award Also Tyddyn Isaf near Benllch in Anglesey is a lovely spot aswell. Tyddyn Isaf caravan park and camping site There's a nice site in Stainforth near Settle on the banks of the Ribble not been for a few years tho. But Lleyn peninsula or Anglesy are my favourites. only 2 hours in the car and loads to do.
  19. 13 year old Dad Alfie Patten has joined Fathers 4 Justice. He doesn't really grasp the politics or the issues of gender bias inherent in the family courts system but he thinks the Spiderman suit is fuckin ace. © Mav
  20. How's your sore hand honey ? ! ;) :inlove:
  21. All style no substance as far as i can see so far. Didn't watch season 1 but have watched the new series on bbc4. Will give it a few more tries but pretty dull - save for the wiggle as already highlighted.
  22. Noos the urban downshifter. Never would have had you down for that. You'll be growing your own veg and recycling your piss to fuel your skiddoo next . . . sounds good though. Ah the simple life in the great Canadian countryside.
