  1. New Frightened Rabbit album out today, hope it's closer to Midnight Organ Fight than the last album which was a bit over-produced.
  2. This guy (David Corley) released his debut album last year aged 53 (it got 9/10 in Uncut). He had his first ever tour in Ireland and after the Netherlands then had a heart-attack on stage and almost died. He's fully recovered now and coming over here (and the UK) again this year in May. He has such a brilliant blues voice, a cross between Tom Waits and Van Morrison.
  3. 112263, already been on Hulu but starting next month on Fox, the book is absolutely superb. The basic premise is a guy in 2011 finds a time tunnel back to 1959 and decides to try and stop the Kennedy assassination. The best part of the book is the guy trying to "live in the sixties" and adapt to life with mobile phone, internet etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXUx__qQGew
  4. I'm just back from a couple of weeks in Shenzhen, China. Was in an American owned bar and the owner decided to put on a Creedence playlist, I swear everybody in the bar sang along to every song, they are just the most amazing band.
  5. Malojian (formerly known as Cat Malojian) from Northen Ireland, I saw them in Kilkenny last night, sublime gig. This song is truly beautiful
  6. WWN strikes again... A STEWARDS inquiry has been called into an alleged race between siblings Diarmaid Toomey (9) and his younger sister Aoife (6) after a spur-of-the-moment contest to the front door left her in last position today. Parents Thomas and Mary Toomey were inadvertently dragged into the debacle following their son’s apparent win, which saw him leave their only daughter for dust, as they exited the car. “We just got back from shopping when the two of them just shot off like lunatics to the front door,” Thomas told WWN. “Diarmaid is a bit older than Aoife so had no problems beating her to the house. When she realised she was beat, Aoife stopped halfway and burst out crying.” Despite visibly participating in the race from the get-go, the daughter of two claimed ‘it wasn’t a race’, much to the sheer delight of her older sibling, who then began teasing her with words. “Diarmaid started rubbing it in her face by telling her she was ‘Paddy Last’,” recalled his mother. “I kind of agree with him to be honest as she did rise to the challenge initially, but failed quite miserably.” Following some heated debate between the stewards and race contestants, it was later decided that the race was null-and-void due to the lack of video referee technology – an excuse momentarily created by their dad, who was sick of their fucking whinging. http://waterfordwhispersnews.com/2015/08/25/last-kid-to-reach-front-door-claims-it-wasnt-a-race/
  7. Nice restaurant on South Great Georges St http://www.brasseriesixty6.com/ If you just fancy a burger, I've heard this place is great http://www.bunsen.ie/ and it's beside Whelans http://www.whelanslive.com/, probably the best live music venue in Dublin.
  8. A good memory. Alan Parsons Project, Don't Answer Me. https://youtu.be/eAIGuVpeLi8
  9. So I took my first dip into gig promotion and helped organise a show in a venue close to my house, the gig was for John Murry and Cait O'Riordan (ex-Pogues and ex Mrs Elvis Costello). It was fantastic and we managed to break even actually a very small profit (all of which went to the artists). Cait and John had dinner in my house and John also stayed. After the gig he, my son, myself and some friends had a "pass the guitar" session until 6 AM. My son, jamming with John Murry was the best musical experience of my life, hands down. An Irish TV company made a film of part of it if anyone is interested...
  10. One of my favourite songs from last year, great album too. Lots of echoes of "Desolation Row" by Bob Dylan Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch - The Trip.
  11. I love that song too, that's a brilliant version, Colm Mac Con Iomaire on the fiddle is amazing.
  12. Possibly the best Springsteen cover I've heard, my favourite song of all time too.
