That was the week that was (Sep 1-7 2018)

Saturday Sep 1:

Leicester 1 L 2. We might not play as bad as that second half again all season. I certainly hope not, as it was truly dire stuff. With the ball anyway, without it we were pretty good and didn’t really give Leicester too many chances. The goal we gave them was a joke but I’ve had my say on that elsewhere so don’t want to go over it again here.

The one thing I would say about it is that usually if we were to give away a goal like that, in a close game in which we weren’t really clicking, there’s no way we’d have held on for the win (think Bournemouth away a couple of years ago). Or if we had, we’d have to ride our to get through. It wasn’t really like that at all though. The defence (by that I mean the team rather than just the back four) stood strong and we’ve now won four from four, including two victories at really tricky away grounds. Plenty of teams will drop points at Palace and Leicester this season, but we haven’t.

It’s not much fun seeing Mo looking so miserable though. Clearly he’s got things on his mind but let’s hope he can sort through some of those issues with his national FA while he’s away this week.

After the game Klopp was asked to comment on Mourinho’s disparaging remarks about him yesterday:

Klopp: “What did he say, I have not heard about this?”

Press: “He was unhappy that he’s getting so much criticism considering everything he’s won, and he said there are managers in the top four who haven’t won anything outside of their own country who get nothing but praise”

Klopp: “He’s right. He’s the most successful manager and I haven’t won anything outside of Germany. I have no problem with it as it’s true”.

That’s boss that is. It was the perfect response as it doesn’t give any fuel to the fire Mourinho is trying to stoke. Unlike Mourinho, Klopp doesn’t care what people think about him and whether they recognise his achievements or not. Mourinho would have loved him to bite at that but he’s just took the jam right out of his donut there. Love it. Imagine having someone other than Klopp as your manager? Grim.

Sunday Sep 2:

The u23s lost today against West Ham. Got to be honest, I have zero interest in watching them this season, at least not until Brewster is fit again and even then I'm not that excited about it (he's good but he's no Michael Owen). It’s weird really as I’ve always enjoyed watching the reserves, even going back to when I was kid. Now though, there’s just nothing in that team that grabs my attention. The best players all get loaned out and what’s left are a group of lads who are either not good enough to go out on loan or who would normally be playing in the u18s.

There are a few I really like and who might have a future here (Adam Lewis for example, he's boss) but there’s just not really anyone especially exciting to watch now that Wilson isn’t there anymore.

Over in Turkey, Karius didn’t cover himself in glory on his Besiktas debut. He made one good save but then got caught in no mans land on a cross and conceded a cheap goal in a 1-1 draw. It wasn’t exactly a howler, but the fact I even know about it tells you that’s every move he makes is still going to be micro analysed on social media, and that’s exactly why it’s good that he’s not here.

Speaking of social media, Juventus gained 4 million twitter followers after signing Ronaldo, while Real Madrid lost a million when they sold him. What the fuck is that all about? I genuinely don’t get it. Do these people actually support teams of their own, or do they just watch whoever Ronaldo is playing for? What are they going to do when he retires? Probably turn their obsession to Mbappe instead. Some people are fucking weird.

Monday Sep 3:

New deal for Hendo eh? Made up for him, fully deserved. Some of our fans have this weird dislike of him and you only have to look at some of the replies to the club’s twitter announcement to see what the fucking loony fringe element of our fanbase thinks of him. It’s fucking bizarre. I don’t get it at all. The same fans who would have ditched him for Emre Can are now clamouring for Fabinho to play, even though none of us have seen him yet and there’s probably a very good reason for that. The lack of respect afforded to Henderson from LFC twitter does my head in.

Also today, Andy Gray mocks the appointment of a throw in coach. And just like that, I’m now completely on board with it. Not that I was against it before, I just didn’t really give a shit one way or another. After hearing Big Sam’s number one cheerleader sneering about it I now hope we end up like Stoke under Pulis with everyone shitting themselves whenever we get a throw in their half.

Joe Gomez hurled a couple of monster throws at the weekend, which would have been great if it hadn’t been in stoppage time when we were defending a one goal lead! The new coach might want to spend a bit of time working on 'when' they should do it rather than just 'how' to do it.

Just looking through newsnow today to see what else is going on, and I have a new pet hate. Websites that run articles based on what knobheads are writing on twitter. Examples today:

On Henderson: “Coward” “Invisible” - Loads of Liverpool fans are destroying 28 year old’s Leicester display (footballfancast.com)

On Ejaria: “Rank rotten” ‘Weak mentality” - Some Rangers fans rip into 6ft ace after loss v Celtic (This is Futbol)

On Alisson: “Bring Karius back” - 65m summer signing compared to Besiktas keeper after huge blunder (Turkish-Football.com)

There’s nothing worse, it drives me mad. What’s the point of it? They find a few tweets from some twitter loudmouths talking shite about a player and run an article making out this is what the fans are thinking. The way ‘journalism’ has evolved due to the digital age is just sad. It’s all about the clicks now and there’s no quality control or integrity about any of it. Just shite.

And then there’s this: “Virgil Van Dijk gives support to Gary Lineker’s claims about Joe Gomez” (ECHO). Ok, that’s good. I wondered what Virgil had to say about Joe so clicked on it. Guess what he said? Absolutely NOTHING. He did click like on a tweet from Lineker praising Gomez though, and apparently that’s enough for a news item these days. Is this how it’s done these days? Am I doing it wrong?

Maybe if back in the day I'd ran news articles whenever Rashid or Frode had come out with something mental I'd be over in Spain by now, living the high life like Duncan Oldham from Koptalk.

Tuesday Sep 4:

Adam Lallana muscle injury on international duty you say?

 yDX.gif

I should have run a forum sweepstake on the first player injured this season. It was always going to be between him and Sturridge (Matip a close third) and my gut feeling would have been Lallana. He’s missed more games than Sturridge in the last few years and that contract we gave him is starting to look mental. 100k a week and he never plays anymore.

Even when he’s available he doesn’t get on the pitch, and for me the main reason for that is because Klopp doesn’t trust him not to break down. And he’s right not to. It’s such a shame because before his body started to fall apart he was fucking boss. He was brilliant that first season after he was converted into midfield and with Ox not being available this year he could have been a really important player for us if he wasn’t completely shot to pieces.

Meanwhile, Andy Robbo is named Scotland captain. My question is how was he not already Scotland captain? Who else have they got even in the same stratosphere as him. He’s their best player, he’s playing at a higher level than anyone else in the squad and he’s fucking boss. Shame on them for taking this long.

Wednesday Sep 5:

Neymar reckons we won’t finish in the top four. He went City, United, Chelsea and Spurs. He’s entitled to his opinion but it does make me wonder just what the fuck he’s been watching, or indeed if he’s been watching at all? Could it be that he’s just taking a little shot at us because we play them in a few weeks? Either way, I love this kind of shit. He’ll be eating those words when he leaves Anfield with his tail between his legs, nursing bruises from the shoeing he takes from Trent and Robbo.

Meanwhile, over at Everton…. Marco Silva has to play ‘blue bingo’ with a load of old ladies as part of some caring in the community thing. Is ‘blue bingo’ what I think it is? “Big Nev and Unsy, 88”. "Last win at Anfield, 99"

There was a comedian there presenting the whole thing and apparently he told the old girls not to worry because no Everton manager has won anything for 23 years! The reason I know this is I saw a massive purple cloud up in the sky formed by all the Evertonian fume. Nailed on that comedian won’t be hired again, but fair play to him for sticking to what is funny and not just pandering to his audience.

Thursday Sep 6:

Adrien Rabiot on a free next summer? Yeah I’ll have some of that. Don’t think I can ever remember seeing him play but LFC twitter seems to think he’s ace. Then again, LFC twitter hates Hendo, so fuck LFC twitter. Seriously though, most people reckon this lad is boss and reports say it’s between us, Barca and Juve, so that would suggest he’s the business.

I love a good Bosman me, and I don’t think we do it enough. If we picked up a quality Bosman next summer, we don’t really need much so in theory we could just lash the kitchen sink at Mbappe.

Rabiot is meant to be a Liverpool fan and there are reports that Klopp has been speaking to his mum trying to convince her that Anfield is the best place for her boy. Klopp’s the fucking man isn’t he?

Bad news for Brewster today as it’s revealed he won’t be back until December now. He doesn’t seem too dishearten by it though and is talking about not only making his debut when he gets back, but also ‘playing a lot of first team games’. I’m not sure how, as unless there are injuries he’s not even getting on the bench. Solanke is in the same situation and he’s been told his under 21 spot is under threat because he’s not featuring much here.

It’s hard though, Klopp can’t just let all our best kids go out on loan because we’d have no depth and cover for injuries. But by keeping them and not playing them, it’s fucking up their development. As soon as Brewster is fit I’d immediately loan Solanke as this current situation isn’t doing anyone any good. Here’s a question though. When Sturridge inevitably gets hurt, would Solanke or Origi get the nod for the bench?

Friday Sep 7:

Ramos is talking about Mo again. In fairness, he was only answering a question from the English press, but he’s still a twat so fuck fairness. He was asked if he was worried the England fans might give him a hard time.

“I’m not really concerned about that. I never wanted to hurt an opponent on the pitch, of course, so my conscience is really clear about what I did that night. I’m not going to be affected by that at all. I know the English fans will treat players as they deserve and I’m not worried in the slightest.”

You know I’m more bothered by the question than his answer. What soft cunt thinks England fans are going to boo him over him stopping us winning the Champions League? They’ll probably present him with a fucking award on the pitch before the game and chant his name throughout. As for his conscience being clear, for it to be clear don't need to have a conscience to begin with?

Also today, Trent owned half the England squad and absolutely destroyed Lingard. None of them would shake his hand after his team won a training match and he was trolling them all. Lingard eventually says “hit the crossbar and I’ll shake your hand”. Trent’s in the centre circle and just turns and lashes the ball fifty yards. *thud* right on top of the bar. Amazing.

Robbo’s big night as Scotland skipper ended in disappointment as they were walloped 4-0 by Belgium. I watched about 15 minutes of it and other than Robbo and Ryan Fraser I had no idea who any of the Scotland players were. Actually that’s not true, I know Craig Gordon too, I was just shocked that he’s still playing. Was Jim Leighton unavailable?

How have they become so completely nondescript? So many great players in the past and now they’ve only got Robbo. Granted, he might just be the greatest of them all, but even so, it’s still mad just how far they’ve fallen.

Finally, back to my despairing at the absolute shit that websites are churning out as ‘news’ items. I think we’ve reached a new low today as I saw a few articles based on tweets from LFC fans complaining about…. the way our players have been graded on the new FIFA game. For fucks sake. They've now scraped right through the barrell and are now digging underneath it.

Wait, stop the press: I actually found one that’s worse, and no surprise it's in the once proud publication that was the ECHO.

The headline: “Liverpool title challenge mocked by United midfielder Paul Pogba”.

The story: Pogba posted a photo of himself with Mbappe and Griezeman and asked for captions. Someone made a joke about our title challenge and he liked it. And THAT was enough for the Echo to run that story? Appalling. This might be the worst thing they've done since they interviewed a 17 year old Sheyi Ojo and his bird and touted them as the new Posh & Becks.

That was the week that was….

I’ve never heard of rabiot as a Liverpool fan .... he’s psg born and bred, but he’s a a weird young man. His ma is the boss though.

Think it was one of those 'used to always go Liverpool on the playstation' type of deals. The article I read said something about 'took a keen interest in their results as a kid' rather than us being his number one team.
