https://mediaconfidential.lnk.to/podcasteo Lionel Barber and Alan Rusbridger are joined by Maurizio Molinari, editor of Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica to explore exactly what Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is doing with Italian state media. Renowned historian Antonio Scurati was booked to deliver a monologue on a talk show on Italian broadcaster RAI 3 on 25th April, Italy’s Liberation Day, when it commemorates victory over fascism. In this speech, he was planning to accuse Meloni’s government of sticking to ideologies of neo-fascist culture. But then his appearance was cancelled—leading to allegations that the Italian PM is trying to turn state broadcasters into her own “megaphone”. She wouldn’t be the first European leader exert control over their country’s media. There are concerns that Meloni is planning to take the Italian media down a similar road to that of Viktor Orbán’s Hungary, where independent journalists operate in a climate of fear and intimidation. Shame they don’t get their knickers in a twist over subsidised military spending. If ever a country needed to double drop a few garys and stick some tunes on it’s the good old US o A.

Didn’t want to read that but glad I did. Klopp has given everything and just looks shattered. Players’ have dropped off but it’s fine margins. Score when you’re on top and game management is different. A few posters on the match thread pointed out the way the ref gave every soft decision to them, and they got away with a fair bit. The free kick for their first was a joke but that’s how we’re reffed. Slight touch, opponent goes down, free kick. Agree it’s worse than losing out or a final cos of the nature of it. -
It’s funny cos it’s true.

Defence procurement is notoriously fickle. There’s still middle aged men fighting on Facebook aircraft groups about the TSR2 project.

Plenty of money for BAE systems not so much for child literacy and development.
