  1. Long read. Features the man whose idea it was to bid 40 +£1 for Suarez ( Dick Law) the sage Commolli on avoiding deadline day deals !! Also how it is wise never to piss off the selling club and why clubs bid low but not too low as the selling club see it as disrespectful but too many clubs according to one go in with a very generous opening offer. Full article below. "Does Luis Suarez ring a bell?" Dick Law has a wry chuckle as he introduces the Uruguayan into conversation. Suarez isn't being recalled for the scoring, bawling, biting or handballing. Instead, for once, it is something he didn't do. Ten years ago, in the summer of 2013, Law was in charge of overseeing Arsenal's transfer business and manager Arsene Wenger wanted another striker. At Liverpool, Suarez had scored 23 Premier League goals for a team that finished seventh and wanted to join another club. So, Arsenal moved. Having seen a copy of Suarez's contract, Law knew it contained a clause mentioning bids over £40m. Law also knew that figure was unlikely to be enough to buy Suarez - the clause was too vaguely written to force Liverpool's hand. But he hoped that might be the number that started negotiations, fuelled Suarez's desire to leave and paved the way to a deal. Law sent over an offer of £40m, plus one symbolic pound. "Our approach was just to start a conversation," he says. He didn't get the reply he wanted https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66439672
  2. For those watching the Greens they came third in all three by-elections. The 10.2% in Somerton was apparently their biggest share in a by-election and even though Uxbridge was rumoured to be close their voters didn't turn to Labour.
  3. Apparently there is a sizable student population who attend Brunel, 10-20k who may have influenced the result in Uxbridge if it was held in term time. I can't see many constituencies in London staying Tory as London seem to hate the Tories more than those further North these days. Roughly 20 London Tory MPs can see them maybe returning 5 or so next election.
  4. The people who believe anything Team Starmer will say in the manifesto - are the same people who thought Swinson could stop Brexit. The same gullible folk who had FBPE in their profile. It's not just their words but actions. The mass expulsion of members. The rigging of candidate selection on a wholesale basis.
  5. I think RS Archer is on a windup. He's catching a few by the looks of the early responses. https://www.indy100.com/news/fake-brexit-thread-eurostar-rs-archer-9599401 https://www.thenational.scot/news/19894021.rs-archer-twitter-troll-baiting-remainers-unionists-yessers-fake-news/
  6. People can convince themselves of anything - he's not alone. We are far more vulnerable to deception than we realise.
  7. What's this about his idol been none other than the former number 21. On the other arm some say is a translation of unlucky.
  8. Haha true, but this uncharted territory possibly needing 3 players if we sell ... halfway through July gives them extra scope to blag.
  9. When he was in rehab the tabloids were contacting him to say we know where you are. Proper grim stuff.
  10. This is is an ITK spoofers dream. I'd probably take all incomings from said people with a huge pinch of salt for now professing they know ... I suspect we will be linked with every midfielder for sale and not.
  11. I was joking about the roids for a cheap gag. Bit naughty for me to say that as he is clearly a proper pro. He had low body fat before he hasn't actually had much of a change - just a tweak.
  12. My understanding the way Klopp works, if Henderson wasn't part of his plans the player would already know - especially as his captain. Klopp deadlines etc. In other words, if he's talking to other clubs he already knows he is surplus and has the blessing from Klopp to find a club. Not much suprises me in football but Henderson going to play over there actually would. I think he's been on the roids over summer is my only explanation. It was 400k earlier, now it's 700k. Ok.
  13. They didnt expect the 20 year old to get lawyered up. The parents should probably get one before speaking to the S*n again - in the blink of an eye they will be thrown under a bus if required. Apparently 5 consecutive front pages with the BBC on it from the S*n. Talktv has been going hard at the BBC - they all seem to share a similar opinion. Job done on their part. Hope those involved can repair any damage done but doubtful.
  14. True and being an employee of the state broadcaster there is even less slack. Just not buying the team Murdoch spiel of they didn't act quick enough, especially when you have a witness who doesn't want to be a witness.
  15. Apparently a question just came up on the chase. What country is Huw Edwards from?
  16. Not sure what the BBC were meant to do if the police said there was nothing illegal at the time. This fella might well turn out to be .... but how far can an employer nose into a person's private life. Police force was contacted in April The BBC has just received a statement from a police force confirming two points made by the parents of the young person at the centre of allegations reported in the Sun against an unnamed BBC presenter. The force confirms that it was contacted in April. It also says that "no criminality was identified" The force has now met the Metropolitan Police and the BBC and "as a result of recent developments, further enquiries are ongoing to establish whether there is evidence of a criminal offence" As a reminder, the BBC has confirmed the parents first complained to the corporation on 18 May.
  17. I might be reading the below bit wrong as there are different parts of the BBC. It would mean the family didn't share or weren't allowed to share the identity of the young person when making the allegation. BBC News does not know the identity of the young person and has not spoken directly to them. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-66159357.amp
  18. If I read it right these points were omitted from the original coverage. The BBC don't know the identity of the young person. The step-father says he went to the police in desperation - the police couldn't do anything as nothing illegal had happened. The step-father informed the BBC of this when in contact on May 19th. The young person issued a denial. The young person is estranged from their mother. Those points provide a completely different context.
  19. War Chest from Major General Stevie.
  20. These two tweets have been liked by Huw Edwards today.
  21. So there was a denial by the young person on Friday and this was allowed to fester.
  22. BBC: Claims about presenter 'rubbish' - young person's lawyer Claims made by the mother at the heart of the BBC presenter scandal are "rubbish", a lawyer representing the young person has said. In a letter to the BBC, the lawyer makes claims that throw doubt on the story that has dominated front pages through the weekend. It says the young person sent a denial to the Sun on Friday evening saying there was "no truth to it". However, the "inappropriate article" was still published, the lawyer said. A spokesperson for the Sun said: "We have reported a story about two very concerned parents who made a complaint to the BBC about the behaviour of a presenter and the welfare of their child. "Their complaint was not acted upon by the BBC. "We have seen evidence that supports their concerns. It's now for the BBC to properly investigate BBC News does not know the identity of the young person and has not spoken directly to them. It has not seen any of the Sun's body of evidence, or the dossier the Sun reported was handed to the corporation by the family over the weekend. In their letter, the lawyer writes: "For the avoidance of doubt, nothing inappropriate or unlawful has taken place between our client and the BBC personality and the allegations reported in the Sun newspaper are rubbish." The Metropolitan Police are "assessing" information from the BBC over the allegations made against the presenter. Detectives held a virtual meeting with BBC representatives on Monday, a spokesperson for the force said. The Sun published claims on Friday that a BBC presenter paid a teenager for sexually explicit photos. The newspaper claimed that the man had paid the individual tens of thousands of pounds for the images, starting when the young person was 17. The BBC said it first became aware of a complaint in May, and that "new allegations" were received on Thursday, the day before the Sun first published its claims. On Sunday, the Sun reported that the young person's family was said to be upset by the corporation's latest response, alleging "no-one from the BBC rang them for a proper interview after the initial complaint". The paper also claimed the BBC presenter made what it called two "panicked calls" to the young person - who is now 20 - after the original story came out. The BBC said on Sunday that a staff member had been suspended, but has not identified him. In a statement, the corporation said it was working as fast as possible "to establish the facts in order to properly inform appropriate next steps". https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-66159357
  23. Didn't see that coming. I was under the impression there was evidence.
  24. In open play a goalkeeper rarely gets booked so unlikely to ever hit the 10 yellow ban. They might need to bring out the Martinez rule. However, it was fifth-bottom Aston Villa who received by far the most bookings for time-wasting. In their 1-1 draw at Liverpool in May 2023, Villa collected four yellow cards for time-wasting, more than 11 clubs received in the entirety of the campaign. Their main offender throughout 2022/23 was Emiliano Martínez. The Argentine collected six bookings for time-wasting, a tally topped by only two clubs other than his own. The majority of the 13 players with at least two yellow cards for this offence were either goalkeepers or played for Villa, and Martínez obviously ticks both boxes. https://www.pinnacle.com/en/betting-articles/soccer/the-data-behind-bookings-soccer/h6g28jzdl9plqbgb
  25. It's possible there could be more than one wanker at the BBC.
