  1. Good of Chelsea to start winning now in extra time. What a shit night.
  2. Fully deserved win for Swansea. I really don't understand how we always have so few players in the box and yet constantly get completely caught on the counter. Not exactly going with Rodgers' plan to turn Anfield into a fortress this season are we?
  3. Anyone have a punt on Arsenal in play tonight? Noticed it was 12/1 for the draw after 90 minutes when Arsenal had just got it back to 4-2 and 20/1 for Arsenal to qualify in extra time. Briefly thought about a small bet but decided it would just be throwing money away. Oh well. No idea what the odds were at 4-0.
  4. Might as well just give United the title now and save everyone the bother of having to watch any more ridiculous games. That's the second big away match now where the officials have just given them the game. Johnny Evans yet again feigning injury to avoid a booking or worst after a two footed lunge and Torres getting sent off was even more unbelievable than Shelvey. If you're going to book a player for diving and it's going to be his second booking then you've got to be absolutely sure, especially if you've already sent off a teammate, and no way could that ref be sure. So it's just blatant corruption as far as I'm concerned. And then they don't even have to score a legitimate goal to beat nine men but just get given a clearly offside goal too. So this weekend we've had a perefctly good winning goal disallowed. Arsenal have won with a clearly offside goal and it's been finished off by that joke of a performance from the officials in the Chelsea v United match. But the media is full of muppets like Lawrenson who think we've got the best officials in the world and nothing will ever be done about it.
  5. Sums up the way things have gone so far this season. Getting absolutely shafted week after week by officials. We've got problems but how many more points would we have by now with competent officials? Would have been such a great moment too.
  6. Assaidi Skrtel Wisdom Agger was decent too and Johnson got forward well in the first half. Suarez had some real moments of quality but also some really wasteful moments.
  7. Pleasing result and the added bonus of Udinese losing away to Young Boys to put us top of the group. It might not be the champions league but I'd still like to see us have a decent run in this competition. A lot of people knock the Europa League but the later rounds are usually pretty decent. Assaidi looked impressive and it would be nice to think after years of other fans laughing at players we've bought and how much we've paid for them we might have found a bargain who will have fans of other clubs wanting to know why their scouting department failed to spot him. Thought Downing was as poor as ever in the first half and then bizarrely scored a great goal after being moved to left back. Wisdom looks like a player who's been in the first team for years rather than a young lad who's made a handful of appearances.
  8. Well I can't say I hadn't been warned enough times from previous games about how shit City can be in Europe. Lucky to take the lead against the run of play and then had a brief spell where it looked like they had control of the game only to give away a stupid goal right before half time and then just fall apart completely in the second half. Only consolation is I only stuck twenty on them when I had been considering a lot more. Still I normally only bet five to ten pounds on matches so that's still annoying. Had some smaller bets with mixed results. Singles on Malaga and Blackburn along with a double on Porto and PSG won. Singles on Arsenal and Montpellier along with a both teams to score double in the Dortmund v Madrid and Arsenal v Schalke games didn't. Can't believe Arsenal couldn't even score a goal tonight to lose both bets. Champions league has been crap for betting this season.
  9. Usually do an over 2.5 accumulator and a both teams to score accumulator when there are a load of games on. Been waiting all season for one to come off and then both come off on the same night. Also benefitted from that last minute winner from Cardiff. Was getting quite irritated with them by that point as Watford were down to 9 men for the last 15 minutes. Both Teams to score accumulator consisted of Bristol City v Burnley, Wolves v Bolton, Scunthorpe v Preston. Stevenage v Portsmouth and Wimbledon v Bristol Rovers. Over 2.5 accumulator consisted of Bristol City v Burnley, Cardiff v Watford, Wolves v Bolton, Stevenage v Portsmouth and Rotherham v Morecambe. Only very small stakes but made just under 80 quid on the pair of them. More than made up for an otherwise rubbish night when all my 'sensible' bets lost. Juventus messed up one and I certainly won't be backing Southend again any time soon. They drew at home to bottom of the table Barnet the other week and lost at home to second bottom Aldershot tonight. Also decided against backing United and Barcelona in play which was annoying. Think I'll be on City at Ajax tomorrow night for a largeish (for me) stake. They pretty much have to take maximum points off Ajax to have any chance of qualifying. Could well end up regretting it as I backed them against Dortmund the other week and have been let down by them quite a few times in European games the last couple of seasons.
  10. First half was pretty decent. Second half wasn't and made for really uncomfortable viewing at times but a win's a win. The failure to get a second goal and kill the game off made for a very nervous ending and it was also sort of understandable because of the start to the season we've made. Reading had nothing to lose and people moaning about the manner of victory should remember that top of the table Chelsea barely scraped a win at home against them at the start of the season so they're maybe not as bad a side as some people are making out. Jones did well, as he has done in his other performances for us this season. Obviously we'll need to play a lot better at Everton next week but hopefully Suarez will remember his shooting boots for that one.
  11. Wasn't it Koscielny who rolled around on the floor at Anfield feigning agony to get Cole sent off on his debut? Maybe Cole would have been sent off anyway but a reaction like that is always guaranteed to sway the ref if he's in any doubt and if you're prepared to do that to get someone a red card then you can't really complain about how anyone else behaves. Seem to remember he had magically recovered a few moments later. Suarez didn't do himself any favours with that dive against Stoke the other week but the reaction to it has been pathetic. There are far worst culprits about who don't get half as much criticism and I honestly can't remember a player who the media have had it in for to such a degree. Sadly Koscielny is just the latest shitty defender to take advantage of the situation and no doubt next time we play Arsenal he'll be constantly fouling Suarez and having the nerve to complain to the ref that Suarez is diving.
  12. Gone for Aqualini. Genuinely couldn't understand the thinking behind signing him. A player who'd had an appalling injury record for the past 3 seasons who was injured at the time we signed him when we needed a quality midfielder to come in from the start to replace Alonso. Frustratingly he did look to have some ability and there were a few decent performances in the second half of that season but 3 different managers since Rafa all seemed to have taken a look at him and not even wanted to give him a chance and there must be a reason for that. You can make a case for Carroll obviously because of the price tag and if Downing doesn't improve before he leaves then he'll certainly be a contender - still can't believe a player in his position managed to go an entire season without contributing a single league goal or assist. There are too many contenders sadly. Doubt this topic on any other club's forum would have so many legitimate contenders.
  13. I read in four four two's season preview guide in August that they actually had the third highest net spend in the premier league over the period since they've been promoted with a net spend of around 60 million over that time which is a pretty considerable amount compared to most clubs. I don't think they bring in many major name signings but they seem to make a lot of 4-5 million signings which all add up. I'm not saying they should be competing for the title or a champions league spot and maybe they had to spend a lot to start with to compete as they would have come up with a championship standard squad but they've spent a lot more than teams like Fulham and Everton in recent years who have consistently finished above them so I don't buy this idea that Pulis is doing a particularly great job there.
  14. Sadly Lawrenson's comment seems to the general consensus in the English media and while incompetent displays from referees are being ignored or even praised like Halsey's the other week then the standard is never going to improve. I don't even buy the theory that Mason didn't contribute to the result today. Had he done his job properly then it could have been a completely different game (maybe even an entertaining one where some football actually got played) and therefore a completely different result.
  15. Stoke are actually one of the biggest spending Premier league clubs of the last few years. Fed up of this image Pulis has of being some sort of miracle worker who works on a shoestring budget and has to resort to spolier tactics out of necessity to compete. But they are what they are and it's not our problem. At least we only have to watch them twice a season while their fans have to watch them every week - although most of them actually seem to enjoy it. Our problem is trying to find a way of beating them and sadly we've consistently failed to do so in the league since they came up.
  16. That performance actually looked better in the highlights than it did watching it at the time. The cheek of Pulis to moan about 6 bookings and Suarez diving after what his team got away with is incredible but he has a long history of doing it. Would be great if Stoke got relegated as they actually seem to be getting even worst in their style of play and what they get away with but unfortunately it works for them and they'll be finishing mid table and grinding out 0-0 draws at Anfield for years to come. At half time on Thursday I actually thought things were starting to really come together under Rodgers and we were heading in a positive direction but it just seems to be one step forward and two steps back at the moment and while performances have generally been better than results have suggested it's becoming tiresome moaning about hard luck stories and I can't help worrying about how things are going to go if we don't put a few wins together soon.
  17. Fairly typical home game against Stoke. They came for a point and got it. Never really any sustained period of pressure. Gerrard was absolutely terrible - apart from one brilliant ball to set up Johnson nothing he did seemed to come off all afternoon. Doesn't help when defenders can just constantly foul your best player and know they'll get away with it. Like how the ref finally started booking their players in the final 20 minutes for challenges they wouldn't have been able to make if he'd actually done an even vaguely competent job in the first half. Only positive was finally we managed a clean sheet although considering how little Stoke attacked it would have taken a set piece or another monumental defensive cockup on our part to concede - which we did our best to do in the first five minutes. I was impressed with Wisdom again.
  18. Reckon he might get a game on Sunday to counter Stoke's threat from set pieces - although hopefully he'll defend them a bit better than he did for the second Udinese goal tonight. Shame about that own goal as I thought he otherwise had a really good game.
  19. Played well but lost. Wouldn't mind swapping that for playing badly and losing for once. Our defending is starting to become a real concern now and it seems like every time we have a spell in a match when we're not completely on top we end up conceding. Yes we messed up by not bringing in another striker but we'd have had to bring in Messi and Ronaldo to win us matches at the rate we're conceding goals. Even Stoke who usually do nothing but stick their entire team behind the ball when they come to Anfield will fancy their chances of getting some goals on Sunday. Match was pretty much decided with Shelvey missing from 2 yards out at one end and Coates scoring an own goal about a minute later. Unlucky not to salvage a point with that late siege but we never should have been in that position.
  20. Suarez - couldn't really be anyone else really. Sahin Gerrard
  21. It was nice to be able to enjoy Match of The Day for once rather than just wanting to avoid it. Glad they made a point about Suarez not getting any decisions but I won't hold my breath hoping it will change anything. Felt really confident we'd win today for some reason which is very unusual for me. Suarez was excellent obviously but there were plenty of other positives. Sahin is starting to look really good and Suso and Wisdom both did well. It's good to see talented young players getting a chance rather than the manager just sticking with underperforming senior players. It wasn't entirely perfect as we conceded a couple more really bad goals and our defending was disturbingly bad at times but the team has played some great football this week and there are some positive signs for the future.
