  1. QPR will get the wins they need at home. It's Wolves and Blackburn, and then Bolton, although...they play Villa next week, IF they won that one they might just might suck them in at their expense.
  2. "I remember a few years ago when Liverpool beat us 4-1 at Old Trafford. That genius [Rafael] Benítez said they had planned to beat us by playing long balls behind us. Remember that? Clown." Sir Alex Ferguson expecting more twists and turns in title race | Football | The Observer
  3. I think alot of the problems we have experienced this season are due to the tactics we are using. 4-4-2 doesn't suit our better players, and we don't have the players to play 4-4-2 anyway. Dirk Kuyt isn't a right midfielder, neither is Jordan Henderson. Playing 2 in the middle has frequently seen us over run in midfield, and Adam doesn't have the legs to play in it. Playing Gerrard in a 4-4-2 means you automatically lose the sides biggest goal threat. It also means you don't have the dual protective shield in front of the back 4 that 4-2-3-1 provides, which stifles Johnson and Enrique from getting forward. If we played ............................................Reina............................................... Johnson...........................Skrtel........................Agger...................Enrique .......................................Spearing.....................Henderson.................. Kuyt.......................................Gerrard.....................................Downing ............................................Suarez............................................. We'd have one more games, i'm sure of it.
  4. He's not as good as Johnson at full back, probably never will be. He would be good enough to win a league with though, and if he keeps working with Clarke I think the natural progression for him should be to eventually become a centre half of top 4 quality (think he played there for ressies/England U21's?)

Johnson...............Skrtel....................Agger.....................Enrique ..............................Alonso................Mascherano/Lucas..................................... Suarez.........................................Bellamy ............................................Torres....................................................... Looks a bit familiar that one...

Exactly to the post above. For a sense or perspective.. a couple of years ago we beat Real Madrid 5-0. Look at the Real Madrid line up that drew with Barca tonight. Look at our side that drew with Man City tonight to reach the league cup final. Think about how this team would perform against Real Madrid. And tell me we're making progress.
  7. We have spent the money to be able to at least get into the top 4. Before the last injury ridden, money problem season with Rafa we were part of 'the top 4', and last season doesn't count due to financial crippling, and Hodgson for the first half. Kenny has a side that is solid at the back (signing of Enrique excellent), and clearly the work on the coaching ground has paid off as defensively Johnson, Skrtel and Agger are the best in this league. The midfield is 'functional'. Not amazing, not awful. Where we fall short is, that as we have a 35 million striker that can't score/doesn't fit into our style of play, and a 20 million pound winger who isn't pacy, doesn't have the mentality to play at a top club which is why he's 27 and never has before, and generally isn't up to standard/doesn't pull his weight. Kenny, as much as I think in terms of how he's got the team playing, and is managing the team, bought both of those in, and unless the board backs them to replace them (why would they) will die by both of those 2. Because we still need those 2 players to compete, and those 2 will be moving on in the next year or two for a fraction of what we paid = poor managerial decision/failure
  8. If still available would be interested
  9. Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy has brushed off talk of a crisis at Anfield, insisting everyone is 'very relaxed' and focused on the top four. Three successive home draws, including being held by new-boys Norwich and Swansea, have seen Kenny Dalglish's side drop off the pace at the top of the Premier League table. But the Wales striker insists there are no real issues at the club and nothing to worry about. "We have slipped up a little bit in recent weeks, and this is no disrespect to Swansea, but if we have an ambition to finish in the top four, we have to win those types of games," he told the Daily Mirror. "But we do have the players here to reach the top four and get in the Champions League again. I feel this team will get stronger and stronger as the year goes on. "Despite the results at home, there is a great atmosphere around the place, it's very relaxed, but always with the view to getting into the Champions League next season. "I've really enjoyed being back at Liverpool, I've enjoyed working with a quality group of players. "Training is very intense, but very enjoyable, and there is a feeling we will improve. "Rafa Benitez's team was very good too and very efficient. "But I do feel this team - with Kenny's stamp on it - isn't too far off Rafa's." Bearing in mind the team Bellamy played in was the one with him, Pennant, Crouch (at his peak) and Kuyt, who were sold to bring in Torres, which created in my opinion the only side we've had in 20 years which was as good as if not better than anyone else in the league (bar arguably with the right manager the Roy Evans team of the mid 90's if they'd not been managed by Roy Evans) that's a pretty damning indictment of where we are currently
  10. It's going to happen eventually unfortunately, i'm just disappointed, but not surprised given that the owners are clearly very commercially savvy media operators who want liverpool to be successful, but ultimately want to make money and we are in a business sense an enormous global brand, almost on a par with Mcdonalds, which shares it's revenue with smaller clubs. So from a commercial view it makes sense. That said, Chelsea came along and made football a bit worse, but I learned to live with it once I saw it wasn't a bottomless pit and others could compete on the same scale. What's happening at Man City is a farce, and for me it's ruining football. Which players are going to be loyal and not go to them when they pay double what most other clubs can afford to pay (see Nasri for Arsenal) and this for me would be the nail in the coffin. An uncompetitive premier league (yes the same clubs usually finish high now, but at least any of those teams can be beaten by any other) would lead towards the inevitable in a few years, the European Super League. I don't want the European Super league, I want football as I love it now (or did until Man City came along), and while I would watch it, would it ever be the same again?
  11. I think that looking at the forthcoming fixtures, by the end of November we should have a fairly clear picture of what this team is/isn't capable of. Fixtures Saturday, 1 October 2011 Barclays Premier League Everton v Liverpool, 12:45 Saturday, 15 October 2011 Barclays Premier League Liverpool v Man Utd, 12:45 Saturday, 22 October 2011 Barclays Premier League Liverpool v Norwich, 17:30 Saturday, 29 October 2011 Barclays Premier League West Brom v Liverpool, 17:30 Saturday, 5 November 2011 Barclays Premier League Liverpool v Swansea, 15:00 Sunday, 20 November 2011 Barclays Premier League Chelsea v Liverpool, 16:00 Sunday, 27 November 2011 Barclays Premier League Liverpool v Man City, 16:00
  12. I watched 2nd half, thought we looked ok? Lucas was decent enough, Adam was reasonable, considering Stoke had 11 men behind the ball and we went at them constantly. Only last season we went here, created nothing, always looked like losing and duly did. Today was unlucky, not some sort of crisis! We deserved 3 points. Chavs have had a point here, Scum will come and take the 3, and can anyone see anyone beating City at the moment? So we're on course for 3rd/4th imo
  13. ----------------------------------Reina-------------------------------- Alves------------------Pique--------------------Vidic------------------Bale --------------Iniesta-------------------Xavi-----------------Gerrard---------------- Messi----------------------------------Ronaldo----------------------------Suarez
  14. He doesn't play on the right, in our 4-2-3-1/4-1-2-3 he starts left, and we interchange our left and right of the 3 throughout the game. Lovely to see and makes us so unpredictable to play against. In my opinion works better when that becomes a fluid 3 and Suarez, Kuyt/Meireles/Bellamy? Downing all interchange. Lovely pass and move stuff. Add Gerrard pushing on, Adam playing the ball from deep and Lucas keeping it simple at the base of the midfield, i've almost got a boner.
  15. Nothing we're going to glean from this other than Insua, Poulsen, Greek, Degen are awful, and need to leave. Shelvey and Kelly look a bit lost so far - One positive is that Carroll seems to be moving well, shame he's chasing shadows
  16. Cheers, good to hear people have come out the other side. Very scary illness, I hope it fucks off soon.
  17. I'm about 4-5 weeks in now - started off feeling tired, developed a fever which turned into a sore throat, which turned into a sheer agonising unable to swallow pain which landed me in hospital for 3 days. Had to cancel a holiday to Ibiza, gutted. I was off work for 3 weeks in total, the throat is fine now but for most of that time I was jaundiced, lost weight etc. Worst thing of all is the fatigue and malaise. I'm 2 months into a new job and having moved to London, and while I attend work I barely have the energy to get there, let alone do anything productive. I'm constantly so tired I can't take in what people are saying half the time, which goes down well in a place of work! Also can't drink, play football, exercise, go clubbing, gigs or most of the things I normally do - so it's fair to say this ball ache of an illness is fucking my life up big time at the moment. Anyone else had it?
  18. Well cheers for all the responses to my original post - i'm guessing the original 'fuck off' and 'negged' posts were banter. So I am optimistic about the new season, and I like our new signings, they're all good players. All I was really pointing out, and I hope i'm wrong, was that when I looked at the squad end of last season I thought yeah, Lucas is immense now, but we've probably missed a destroyer since Mascherano left. Centre backs aren't the paciest, might get away with it but would feel more comfortable with a quality addition. Definitely need a left back and a winger as well. And it would be nice to add a forward to the mix just in case Carroll does turn out to be pissed Niall Quinn signed for 35 million. And so far only Downing has addressed any of the areas which I had identified as potential weaknesses. So on that basis I have a minor concern that we could continue to have those issues! And while I don't think it is particularly related to the points about personnel I was expressing, don't think anyone would disagree that everything is incomparably better than a year ago, and yes it's awesome we've got a sense of momentum and money to spend for the first time in a few years
  19. So i'm fairly new to posting on this forum, but I thought i'd share this and see how I get shouted down or what people think. Can't shake the feeling that this summers business..Adam, I think will be a good signing. Henderson, I think is a player with good technique and potential. Downing, I think is an as on the tin purchase, he won't be Messi, but he'll be consistently good, not great, not league winning game changing, but a strong team cog who is consistent in what we bought him to do..provide with, reasonable pace and balls in the box. The concern I have is that if Suarez is missing, where is the thrust coming from? Is Andy Carroll going to deliver what we hope him to? I like him, but i'm not sure. Is having Lucas as our sole DM, and while I rate him, is this a flaw in the squad? Would we have benefitted from a Matuidi or an M'Vila to cover the defence? A nagging feeling feels it would. And while we hopefully will acquire a centre half who is dominant in the air and has pace, will a failure to do so be an achilles heel this season. Nagging feeling it will. While I like our purchases, I feel that the money from Adam and Henderson would have been better spent on an enforcer (we have good CM's in Meireles, Aquilani and Gerrard, not sure the new purchases make us better in that respect), while we have missed one since we lost Mascherano. Carroll, the jury is out, Suarez will miss some games, did or do we need another striker who we can count on. Feel we do. And of course we need a centre back. Full of optimism about the new season, but there appear to be weaknesses in our squad which concern me given we've just spent 60 million pounds.
  20. Dear god. Look at the scoreboard for most of this vid. It's a mirror image so it looks like he's using his right foot. This is why people should watch football rather than youtube for their opinions.
