  1. When he scores against his old club and lifts up his shirt to show what he's written on his vest it's going to have to be good. I suspect he's got to choose between his mother and his job now, love to see his face when he gets the phone call tonight.
  2. Look more carefully and she and her mates were having a pop before we realised how shit he was. Dear, dear, dear. Hope you kept the spare room free, might be going back on the Fulham coach.
  3. Lucky bastard, couldn't find anyone tall when I needed them. For those who hate kids I'm sure last night put them off for life, cold and boring kids don't do, trust me. I used to take my lad to reserve games in winter when he was bad.
  4. Well I might hate siralex the red nosed ruminator but I can't quite buy that one. finishing 2nd v Winning the league/CL final/league cup winners/FA cup SF Unless you are putting Liverpool in the Roy Hodgson/Fulham, didn't they do well for a little club category, which we are not.
  5. Total dick, relies mainly on saying the unsayable, which is not hard..... for a dick
  6. Wake up, unless this club does something shortly we will lose this year and next. I realise that there are few managers available but I'm sure Ancelloti would love to be here asap aand Hiddink also, I was never in favour of the Kenny appointment but as Caretaker I would now say yes. Hopefully the only delay is that those clever people at NESV are working at this behind the scenes (obviously the Ancelloti scenario is a little complicated). If that is not the case then I despair.
  7. Valancia took us apart, domestically Henry, Kanu, Bergkamp and Overmars
  8. England International players, not something Tony knows much about
  9. Love the way Baptiste's teamate just carries on and congratulates him as if he'd scored, not sure he could believe it so he just assumed it was in.
  10. We can analyse this till we are blue in the face (no pun intended) but at the end of the day this will not go away (although Torres and Reina just might) until we have a manager who is strong enough to command respect from all these players and put an end to all this shite. Hodgson is clearly not that man and one of the reasons I want him gone (but replaced by the right person) is that every day that passes feeds this cancer more and more, definitely with the fans but also I suspect with the players. Its killing us and it cannot be allowed to fester anymore. Every loss creates blame, every blame creates disunity, every disunity creates loss. Its a vicious downward spiral which MUST be broken.
  11. We spent many years yearning for a local hero who believed in the club as much as the fans, we had a taste with Fowler but only when Carragher and Gerrard came along did we have two hard working local lads who appeared to care as much as the fans. That's one of the problems of modern day football, its stuffed full of mercenaries who declare their love for the club say they've always wanted to play for us then fuck off when a better deal is offered. With SG and JC we had the real deal. Unfortunately this gave both players a special power over anyone who did not have that local connection or were not as fully attached to the club. Can you imagine an 'outsider' trying to shift either of these two characters before last year. This has fundamentally shifted the power base in the club, much in the same way that it did to a degree with that horrible git Terry at Chelsea. I'm not going to comment upon JC's involvement with Rafa because I don't know but what I do know is that Shankly would have quite happily removed any player regardless of status, Ferguson similiar, Wenger also. A manager of a club has to have ultimate authority otherwise things start to rot, signs appeared that Rafa had lost that authority and nothing that Hodgson has done has restored this position. Unless we have a manager back in charge of ALL the players this club will disintegrate from the dressing room outwards. A manager manages, players play. The alternative is Englands performance in the world cup, the usual dutch fall outs, the French at the world cup and the current cracks at our club. However much you might despise ferguson there is now doubt who is in charge at the club and as a result you can see every player that gets anywhere near the first team doing as they are told because that ethos is firm. Success follows.
  12. We having a saying in Spain, if you see a priest, drinking sugary milk with an envelope in his hands, its your P45.
  13. I wouldn't call Wilkins a manc exactly
  14. I'm no great fan but I think people are (understandably) looking for things to criticise in the statements, I would agree that given that we were shite a point is good. That does not mean a point is a good result from playing Wigan. We hear what we want to hear. Having said that we were shite, the tactics were poor but more importantly our passing and control was poor which constantly put us back under pressure.
  15. Tactics-poor, two CM players at a home match yet again invited them onto us, first half was the same as usual Difference-SG decided, once he was correctly brought on, to attack with passion, had this not been SG it would have been unlikely to make a difference, he's that sort of player. One or two others, Shelvey and Raul in particular, fed off that passion albiet without much control. I'm delighted we won but I'm also delighted we have one of the few players in the world (Gareth Bale seems to have become another in the last two weeks) who can single handedly take a game by the scruff of the neck and win it. I'm more than made up that we're winning each game but I have yet to be convinced that this is due to the way we are choosing to play and the quality of our football. If this does sound like someone who is unable to give credit to the manager it is because I genuinely feel that we would be unable to win games like this if we lose our few remaining World Class players which (especially in the case of Torres) is a possibility.
  16. I love those optimistic posts suggesting he could play for us. Even with new owners why on earth would this lad choose to come to LFC, wake up and look at the new world order. We managed to attract Torres but we are way down the queue for top players now for a number of reasons, not cash rich, no CL football till 2012 at the earliest and a mid club manager. Seriously, set your sights lower or cleverer until the manager changes and someone new is backed with cash.
  17. So that's two ex managers who look like they want their old flame back, Evans never moved out of the house but he's not too bothered and a current manager who probably wished he'd never got the job and stayed at Village Fulham. We're special you know, let's keep it that way.
  18. And what other crazy phrases can we expect from Rafa in the next few weeks, I want a doughut if he comes out with any of the below 1. Leña al mono que es de goma = Wood to the monkey, it’s made of rubber This Spanish phrase literally means to take a piece of wood and beat the crap out of a stuffed-animal monkey because it’s made out of rubber. It is an idiomatic expression used to cheer somebody on, to get them fired up. Very loosely translated it would be something along the lines of “Go for it! Crank it up! Kick some ass!” Unfortunately, there is no colorful equivalent in English. 2. Pongo un circo y me crecen los enanos = I start a circus and the dwarfs grow up [height-wise] on me. This is the Spanish way of saying “When it rains, it pours.” Just think about it…what’s the worst thing that could happen to you if you opened a circus? 3. Lo pasamos como enanos = We had fun like midgets The Spanish seem to have a thing for midgets. (Exhibit A: Las Meninas by Velázquez). Well, little people are used once again, this time to illustrate having fun. Lo pasamos como enanos means “We had a smashing good time” or “We enjoyed ourselves immensely.” 4. Nunca digas ‘de esta agua no beberé’….y que ‘este cura no es mi padre.’ = Never say “Of this water, I will not drink” and that “this priest isn’t my biological father.” An extremely wordy way of saying “Never say never” in Spanish. 5. pegársele las sábanas a alguien = The bedsheets stick to someone A phrase that means “to oversleep” in Spanish. “Llegué tarde al trabajo porque se me pegaron las sábanas.” 6. ponerse las botas = to put on one’s boots This idiomatic expression means to stuff oneself with food. For example, “Me pongo las botas en la cena del día de Acción de Gracias.” (I stuff myself with food on Thanksgiving. I eat ’til I burst on Thanksgiving.) 7. pensar en la inmortalidad del cangrejo = to think about the immortality of the crab This expression has been around for many, many years and is a way to refer to daydreaming. Crazy, crazy windmill attacking people
  19. That's the irony, Benitez will always be remembered for winning a CL by playing poorly against a very strong team but forgotten will be the fact that two years later we dominated the final against the same team but lost. Just shows that winning is everything. What is beyond question is that I got to see three CL semi finals and 2 finals in a period of 5 years and got to see Liverpool at the very top of the UEFA rankings. All that with a weak squad.
  20. Can't remember Benitez laying into Houlliers players suggesting they were poor. This may be why what was a relatively weak squad, carrying some real lame players like Traore, actually managed to win the CL in their "transition" season rather than languishing at the bottom of the PL and getting beaten at home by a weakened Northampton town at home for god's sake. This is not a homage to Benitez, but I am taking sides.
  21. LFC in 2009/10 were a relatively small player financially, a selling club for several transfer windows. In the squad left we had arguably 4 players who could compete for the best player in their position in the world, including Mascherano who admittedly wanted to leave for a year and 13 players who played in the world cup. Admittedly the strength in depth was not there but we do not know how much of this was down to financial constraint and controls within the club around transfer windows. Benitez inherited Dudek, Diouf, Traore, Biscan, Murphy, Cisse, Baros, Smicer, Kewell, Heskey, as well as Hypia, Hamman, Finann, Riise, Gerrard and Carragher. (not sure whether Owen can be included as he'd decided to cash in and rat off) On balance would you exchange that for Reina, Johnson, Mascherano, Gerrard,Torres, Maxi, Lucas, Kuyt, Insua, Skrtel, Agger, Carragher, Aquilani, Benayoun, Kyrgiakos, Ngog? I'd say its an improvement even if some of those players have been poor this year and others have not fully lived up to their reputation (e.g. Maxi) I've been highly critical of some of the buys and sells but on the whole I would say the balance is in favour, albiet tainted by recent history. That's been obvious as big clubs have been sniffing around are players all year as opposed to the destinations of some of the players in that former squad
