  1. No, lets get this right. We got to the Carling cup final inspite of Carroll, not because of him. He missed a penalty against Chelsea, he missed a 1v1 Man City and his performance against Cardiff was appalling. As for the FA cup he got the winner in the semi, fair enough, but Aquilani also scored a semi final goal and had it not been for Glen Johnson's defending we would've been in the Europa final. Would you also have decided that Aquilani had "helped us challenge for trophies"? Nope, because 1 decent goal and performance does not equate to helping a team challenge for a trophy, and that is the case with Carroll.
  2. Was typical newpaper spin mate. They added the fee (£17m) onto his wages and said he was costing the club £125000 a week. Not that he was getting 125k a week in wage. Think it was a Bascombe article (telegraph). And its got to be Carroll, because he was our record signing. And contributed fuck all to the team, took 10 months to get fit and looked so out of place in a footballing side it was painful.
  3. Haven't really watched him much so can't comment on his suitability for us, but we definitely need someone creative on the ball who can create chances and find passes through teams sitting deep, as we have been lacking that in the last 2 or 3 seasons. And maybe in principle Gerrard has the attributes to play centre back (experience, good tackler, good passing range, good in the air etc) but it seems quite fanciful to me. We have Agger and Skrtel there who are natural centre backs and close to as good as anything in the league plus Coates who is one of the best young talents in the world at centre back. Why put one of our better attacking players there when we are short on good attacking players and have 3 good centre backs.
  4. Oh I agree that its too late. But still find it amusing that it was put up on the website just after someone made a thread complaining that Rodgers was keeping silent!
  5. Rodgers: Luis treatment unfair - Liverpool FC I guess you timed this thread quite poorly, Paul! As this has just gone up on the website.
  6. Ronaldo and Messi will go down as two of the best players ever. With Messi no.1 and Ronaldo no.2. They are setting records that will never be beaten.
  7. Gerrard has been very poor. He doesn't seem able to perform consistently now and get a run of good games. For example he had a couple of decent games (Man Utd and Norwich) then two poor games (Udinese and today). Been a poor game overall though.
  8. Fair to say Downing has been dropped from the squad due to his comments about Rodgers in the media? As I don't think even Brendan would think that Joe Cole is better than him?
  9. We were leading 1-0 then lost concentration and conceded 3 avoidable goals. Obviously you can't keep clean sheets in every game but it does help when you sometimes close up shop and hold onto a lead instead of conceding ridiculous goals and losing the lead. Like we've already done numerous times this season. which is quite a worrying pattern.
  10. Our defence is horrendous. What's going on under Rodgers with our defence? 6 goals conceded in 2 Europa league games!!! 12 goals conceded in 6 league games!! Need to sort it out very quickly. Conceding 2 goals a game is just not good enough for any side, let alone one hoping to compete for an european spot.
  11. Well if the league was genuinely corrupt then I don't imagine Arsenal, Liverpool etc would want to expose it anytime soon as they'll have seen how damaging the Serie A scandal was to the league's "brand". That said I don't think referees are corrupt in the sense that they are accepting money to favour a certain team. It's just the fact they are human and despite what they may say I believe their decisions are influenced by which stadium they're at, the nationality of a player, who the managers are, high profile captains etc. And its not really a problem you can eradicate while you have human referees either. Most people can't agree on incidents after watching it 10 times from different angles at different speeds. Referees have to make a decision based on seeing it once, from possibly an obscured viewpoint with 4 or 5 players + the crowd in his ear. So its no surprise they make poor judgements from time to time.
  12. There was contact between Johnson & Valencia aswell. I didn't see many people defending Valencia and claiming it wasn't a dive!
  13. Glen Johnson would've been fine for Chelsea, its just they expected him to be world class at a young age, when full backs take time to mature. Their short term approach is costing them players, they lost Johnson, Borini and Sinclair because they were unwilling to be patient with them and give them time to develop, Sturridge seems to be going the same way. And Johnson is certainly better than anybody they've had playing at right back since he left. The likes of Ferreira and Bosingwa aren't fit to tie his shoelaces when it comes to being a "specialist full back".
  14. If he carries on getting obvious fouls not given in his favour then other players are going to go in deliberately hard on him knowing they won't get punished as much as they should and he's going to suffer a serious injury because of it. Its exactly the same treatment as Ronaldo got in the league, where he was getting kicked to bits by opposition players because he supposedly had a reputation of being a diver and refs rarely gave him anything.
  15. Gareth Bale overrated. One good game in the CL etc. 2-0 to Spurs now, with a great goal.
  16. He gets 14 days from the day he receives the report to appeal. So it won't be enforced until he decides whether to appeal or not.
  17. Brad Jones has made 2 horrendous mistakes in about 4 starts for us. He's a terrible goalkeeper and I seriously don't see why he's being kept around. We knew before he was signed how shit he was, so why are we still persisting with him when he's obviously just not a very good goalkeeper? No wonder we are financially in the shit when people like Jones are being paid thousands of pounds a week to be shit.
  18. Didn't the same happen at Everton around 5 years ago? A ref was criticised by Moyes for a decision and didn't ref a game there for 3 years until recently. I just remember it because when he got the game they said it was his first game at Goodison for 3 years or so. Maybe Ferguson's mates are allowed to pick and choose which refs they want to referee their games.
  19. I think we'll bring Enrique, Downing or Robinson in at left back and play Glen at right back. We've got much stronger left backs in reserve than we have right backs (Flanagan/Wisdom). And you've got to take into consideration there's a midweek game against West Brom so we'll have to get some sort of team together for that. Reina Johnson, Coates, Skrtel, Robinson Allen, Sahin Assaidi, Gerrard, Sterling Suarez With barely no options on the bench to change things. We haven't got much else choice being honest.
  20. Apart from the Johnson defending part, that one's just harsh. He did well even to get back and attempt a tackle from where he was which was on the floor and Valencia, one of the fastest players in the league, was breaking away.
  21. @empireofthekop Fergies right there fans are shite http://twitter.yfrog.com/06u5tokbgkvoblxqnlkupfhjz At least its on Sky sports news. Highlighting how yet again Man Utd fans are singing these songs while there is no video evidence of these supposed Liverpool fans provoking them. If Sky had seen them and recorded them they'd be quick to put the videos up.
  22. Pretty much. Also on the exciting bit, most people disagreed after he was signed that Borini was an exciting signing and people were actually claiming that there was another signing in the pipeline, which would be the actual exciting one.
  23. Borini was bought in to be first choice. I doubt Rodgers would talk about him being an exciting signing if he wasn't intending to start him in most games and was going to use him as mostly a sub.
  24. We seem to have a real problem of defending leads under Rodgers. Well we don't take the lead often but when we do we always seem to lose it!
