  1. I'm just back in from the Scotland v Spain game. Xabi Alonso was outstanding, he never wasted a pass the entire evening. the entire Spain midfield were a joy to watch It was a lesson in keeping the ball. Spain did buckle slightly in a 10 minute spell when Scotland got it back to 2-2, but there are no doubts that Spain deserved to win the game. No idea of the exact possession stat, but would imagine it must have been close to 70-30. Alan McGregor saved Scotland from a real hammering.
  2. No way would I accept defeat if it meant getting rid of Roy, and most certainly not to that lot. I am confident of a win tbh, they are rotten.
  3. A Memorial ceremony for Nigel Patrick Pickup, from Liverpool, and the youngest to perish in the Ibrox Disaster of 1971, Nigel was only 8 years old when he attended the game (his first ever football match) with a relative, never to return :( A delegation of Rangers supporters attended the AFC Liverpool match yesterday, and the Memorial for young Nigel at YewTree cemetery Gone but never forgotten 40 years on – Ibrox Memorial for youngster*|*AFC Liverpool
  4. seen a fair bit of James McArthur, decent player. the better of the 2 James imho
  5. I have an HTC Desire ! the reason i got it? I go to football with 8 lads, and I was the only one that did not have an iphone. They are the nokia 3310 of its generation, every man and his dog has one. As it happens i have landed lucky, as the desire is an outstanding phone All my mates with iphones feel the constant need to throw a few sarcastic cpomments around the moment i use my phone, whilst i never feel the need to mention anything about their phones. They are obviously concerned that the iphone has a genuine competitor. I love how customisable the Desire is, and tbh if you switch off wifi when not in use, and dim the screen as low as it goes you will be ok. its a smartphone, expect to charge it everyday The Desire is a phenomenal phone, it has 7 customisable home screens! actually it has hundreds, because you can create scenes for your 7 home screens, save that, create & use another and so on. I pretty much customise a scene for every occasion, e;g. football/work/house etc, using the widgets/apps/live wallpapers that i would use on each different occasion I use Dolphin HD browser, which uses tabbed browsing in the style of google chrome, and has several add-ons available including adblock, desktop toggle etc. its the first phone i have ever used where the browsing experience is as good as a desktop or laptop. the range of apps is not as good as the apple store, but then its over 2 years established. i havent paid for an app yet, and dont intend too, the vast majority are free. unless the developers are charging for swype (a texting application, that you can just swipe your finger across the keyboard without lifting. it cuts the time of texts and e-mails in half at least) then i will willingly pay for that I dont care that HTC make my phone, I am not a fanboy (can you even be a fanboy in your 40's) in fact i am not a fan of any inanimate object tbh. I find it highly amusing when i read posts on the internetwebz stating that they are an apple/htc/mac/pc fan. do they even realise what they are saying?
  6. Its even flying for me, and Sky are my service provider
  7. Right lads, an honest assessment on Danny Wilson I have followed Rangers for over 30 years, been a Season Ticket holder for a large percentage of those 30 years, and Danny is one of the best prospects I have seen. I am actually disappointed to see him leave Rangers atm, I would have liked to see him develop for a couple of years before moving on. Rangers would never have been able to hold on to him long term though, that is one of the many downsides of playing in a shit league. But hey, every cloud and all that, I still get to support him at Liverpool  He has been at Rangers since he was 13, and made his debut for the under 19 team not long after coming to the club, not many play under 19 football at 13, at any standard. There have been noises about a great young player coming through the youth set up for 2/3 years now, and due to injuries/suspensions/the bank selling all the players etc he made his breakthrough last season, although he had been on the bench the season before at 16 years of age. From the start, he played like a guy that had had been at that level for years, he played Champions league football, making a fantastic clearance on the line away at Unirea, he also played in a Hampden cup final, although that was cut a bit short by being sent off for a last man/goalscoring opportunity (or whatever they are calling it these days) challenge. In fairness the guy was one on one with the keeper and in all likelihood would have scored, so I guess you could say he took one for the team, and was a big part of a 1-0 victory that day. I read a post a couple of pages back on this thread, iirc a guy knew a Rangers fan that said he wouldn’t be missed. IMHO only in the sense that he only played 20 games for the club, as he would have been involved a lot more this season. I guess he couldn’t hang on and risk injury etc ruining his big move, but I feel it would have been better for his development to have stayed, have another season of champions league (well, 6 games :() Danny has a wonderful left foot, and a superb range of passing, long & short. He is not a long ball player at all, but some of his 60 yard cross field passes last season was a joy. Anyone that knows the game knows there is a difference between a long ball & a long pass. He is also a very confident guy, and by all accounts a very level headed lad (I’m aware that could come across as contradictory, but Danny is both and wears it well, so to speak), so I have no doubts about his temperament. As I mentioned earlier he has played Champions League football already, and a good number of times in front of 50,000. He has also played in an Old Firm game. He is good in the air as well, but the toughest matches he had last season were against a couple of big bruising centre half’s. Against smaller strikers who like to take the ball into feet, Danny excelled. He will improve against the bigger strikers as he grows. He is also very quick I have no doubt whatsoever that he will be a star in the EPL, and IMHO he will captain Scotland eventually, but it could be a couple of years before he becomes a regular at Anfield, but he will be. I wish him all the best at LFC
  8. All for the knockdown bargain price of £75k per week. A steal, I'm sure everyone would agree :wow: Need to fill a lot more of those green seats than the 15,000 that were turning up for games in the 2nd half of last season, to cover perma-injured's wages
  9. Don't see anything wrong with what suarez did tbh. An impulsive reaction, and most would do it if they were honest with themselves. "think i'll just let this one in, and send myself & the team home!" :no Uruguay had a stonewall penalty turned down tonight, and the penalty Ghana received, was from a free kick that should not have been given.
  10. yeah, forgot to mention he is good in the air as well. John Fleck has enormous talent (if played in the correct position that is). I personally would have in the team now, and allow him to develop in the first team. why he is not getting regular run I'm not sure, although i believe he was dropped earlier in the season because he was getting a bit ahead of himself. perhaps we will see him getting a regular run next season????
  11. Hibs used to play this over the tannoy pre match when they played hearts, when Rix was in charge of hearts
  12. I am a ST Holder at Ibrox, and have seen a lot of Danny Wilson, from the age of 13 to the present moment.Spurs actually had a bid of a million turned down when Danny was still a youth team player, and from what i hear they are still sniffing about him, so to speak. IMHO he has all the attributes required to make it to the very top, one of the best players we have produced in years. He was playing in our under 18 team when he was 13, some achievment in any country. I agree with GB, he is not ready for EPL yet, but a couple of years of playing in the first team at Rangers, and he will be ready IMHO. He reads the game very well, is quick, and has a sweet left foot. loves to play diagonal balls in behind full backs. those that know the game will know there is a difference between long ball and long pass. He can mix it up, and knows when to play it long and when to just knock it short He has gained valuable experience already this season, and has played in Champions League, plays in front of nearly 50,000 every second week, and in front of 60,000 in an Old Firm game at Celtic Park already, not bad for someone that has only turned 18 recently. I know that SPL is rotten in comparison to EPL, but this lad definitely has what it takes to make it to the top. I realise that he is young and that things can change, particularly if he doesn't continue to develop at the present rate. by all accounts he is a very level headed lad as well, so not much chance of him going off the rails. I would be very sorry to see him leave Ibrox, but can't think of anywhere i would rather him go than LFC, needs a couple of years at Ibrox first though.
  13. there is the rather imaginatively named Babes, which is on magheru blvd, or balescu blvd, or something similar sounding not that i have been there, but i have heard that the orient club is a bit more interesting than Babes! apparently! allegedly! Leonardo's was well recommended, but cant vouch for it personally TBH they are plentiful enough that you should never be too far from some adult entertainment.
  14. TBH Mate, I'm not sure about the 24 hours thing, i was on the official flight and we left about midnight iirc. Some decent bars around though, with decent prices, but a lot of the city centre bars were pricier, although not as pricey as UK 2/2.5 euros a beer iirc. Some bars under a euro though. No idea about Clubs, plenty strip clubs, or bars that have Dancers on podium. Unfortuantely many of those had men dancing/stripping as well as women, so we left pretty sharpish. Some shady areas if you stray, and many parts of the city look like a bomb site, but some nice areas as well, if architecture is your thing. Lot of grey dull communist buildings. Caecescu (sp) palce has to be seen to be believed its HUGE, but ugly as hell
  15. Having been in Bucharest with Rangers already this season, i can only say to everyone going to watch your back and stay safe. The organisation is a disgrace, the facilities are 3rd world, the police and stewards are out to make it as difficult as they can for you, and whack as many as they can with batons, women included. We were kept queuing for nearly 3 hours. 3000 going in through one turnstile, how no one was seriously injured ill never know. Allow loads of time for getting into the ground - many never got in until half time the lighting inside the ground (stairwells toilets etc) is non existent, the concrete stairs have large chunks out of them (navigating them with no lighting was seriously dangerous) Oh! and no toilet paper either. I kid you not, the catering facilities consisted of a pasting table with one guy selling crisps (one box of) and pouring drinks from a 2 litre plastic bottle of coke. this was all gone from about 15 minutes before kick off, so make sure you eat before you get there. the stadium is uncovered (and it pissed down all night) and the stewards are wankers. they stuck a celtic flag on the fence in front of where we were, quite obviously to get a rise. An old man asked them to remove it, and he was decked for his troubles, this kicked off some minor scuffles. on saying all that, they were also fined for their organisation and over zealous stewarding, so maybe they may behave. i wont be holding my breath on that though Watch out for the pick pockets. Also expect to be offered sex by women who are pimping out their 13 year old daughters Beer is cheap though, so not all bad i guess
  16. Jerzy Dudek Sami Hyypia Phil Thomson Gary Gillespie Joey Jones Ian Callaghan Terry McDermott Jan Molby Sammy Lee David Fairclough David Johnson Cool thread btw
  17. any time clive fucking tyldesley is commentating when shrek gets the ball in front of goal - "rooooooooooonnnnnneeeeeyyyyyyyyy." it sounds like he has his cock in his hand when he says it Aaaarrrrggghhhhhhh :wallbutt:
  18. TBH Mate, his effort was never in question, either during his loan spell, or after he signed the year deal. He certainly never looked like he wasn't trying at any point. He will always give 100%, i just dont believe he is good enough to play for Liverpool. If he reproduced the form of the first 4 months then maybe, but seeing as its a much higher level, then i personally doubt it. See above Mate. His effort was never in question, he just made a lot of mistakes. Maybe My judgment is clouded by the fact that Rangers won the league in his first 4 months, and were rank rotten (apart from getting to last 16 CL)in his year under contract. (not just him, the whole team in fairness) He is very big in stature, physically strong and is decent in the air, but IMHO, he makes a lot of elementary errors. As i said in my initial post, he was terrible for getting the wrong side of his man, and gave away penalties regularly by holding, and pulling shirts. His touch is ok most of the time, but he does like to dwell on the ball a bit too long at times as well. A guy i know in Norway (Brann Bergen & Liverpool fan) e-mailed me to ask about SK (before i knew of Rafa's interest) i e-mailed him back to say i thought he would do ok at Brann ! When he replied back that it was to Liverpool i was absolutely stunned. If any can remember his performance for Greece v Sweden at last years Euro's, then you get an idea of what to expect. Maybe he has improved since he left Rangers, but given that he has only played 70 games since leaving, im not sure how much he will have improved, and Maybe, just maybe, he might blossom at Anfield. I will gladly come on here to say i was wrong.
  19. As a Rangers Season ticket Holder & Liverpool fan, this is my take on things! I wish my first post was more positive, but anyway here goes; Rangers signed SK in January 2005, on a 6 month loan deal from Panathanaikos In the first 4 months he did ok, and was a major factor in Rangers winning the title that season. He was outstanding in a game at Celtic Park in february 05. He Was reasonably solid at this point. Anyway, the season ended, and he whored himself all over europe during the close season, and then came back cap in hand to Rangers when he couldnt find another club. He was given a 1 year deal iirc. I wish he hadn't come back, he was poor for much of that season, apart from when he scored the winner against Porto at Ibrox in the Champions League (the only goal he scored for Rangers) He became a liability in the end, and was always good for giving away a penalty, primarily by holding/pulling players back in the box. He also regularly got wrong side of his man as well, which usually resulted in him bringing the man down. He was yellow carded many times, and was sent off on a couple of occasions as well. At the end of that season Rangers never offered him a new deal, this tells its own story In his loan spell he would throw himself into challenges, and more often than not emerge with the ball. After he signed the year contract he was a bombscare at the back, and TBH not many were upset to see the back of him. IMHO (if this happens) he is nowhere near good enough to play for Liverpool. Sometimes players blossom at a higher level, and i am clinging to that possibility, but i am not holding my breath.
