I’d definitely have Gerrard on the right in a 4-4-2, with Aqualini in the middle, two strikers up front and Kuyt at home watching on telly.
-
It sort of felt like a triumph when Offside Kuyt finally, finally, finally got subbed. I’ve said it before but he’s the most technically deficient player that ever got a regular game for us, and he’s got zero football intelligence to go along with his abject 'skills'. Good debut from Aqualani: control; composure; passing; and vision.

It will be a bit of an anti-climax and a bigger hit financially considering that as we finished 2nd last year, we were on for a 30% share of the CL tv money, as opposed to our customary 15%. On the upside it should be easier to get tickets, so if we're in it, let's win it, and knock the bitters out en route to the final.

Man of the match - Game 17 - Lyon - Away - CL

1. Mascherano 2. Lucas 3. Insua (came back well after a few shaky starts, didn't drop any clangers and got forward). -
£9million signings should be able to do the basics - like consistently control the ball and pass it accurately over 5 and 10 yards. In terms of technique, Kuyt is the worst player we've got - all the defenders are better footballers than him, and I'd much rather have a defender (full back) in his position (wide right) than him.

No, but I would have included it as one of the excuses if he had: "Used up all his energy shagging my wife therefore continually loses out in the physical tussle". It may well be a viable excuse though for his apologists: "Lothario endeavours drain all his energy, but who can blame the handsome bastard?”.

So I suppose the moral of the story is: “As long as you slag off the owners your opinions can be taken seriously no matter how much of a cunt you are”. I’ve heard that Rogan Taylor has been pretty negative toward the current 'custodians'......... :D

Yes, Carragher gets caught out time and time again but it's always somebody else's fault: the attackers always lose the ball; the full backs attack too much; the midfield goes missing; the full back shouldn't have allowed the cross; it was a stupid free kick to give away; he doesn't trust anyone else; zonal-marking. Any more excuses from the Carrapologists?

Carragher should be thanking his lucky stars that an over-the-hill hoofmeister such as him is getting a game at all. What he's probably sick and tired of is playing in a more attacking team that will inevitably leave the defenders more exposed, forcing them into more one-on-one battles further up the pitch, and he's being exposed as a liability time and time again, the poor lamb.

That’s the top and bottom of it; Whelan missed out on the Premier League money train whereby average journeyman probably earn more in a year than he did his entire career, and he can’t quite come to terms with it, and the only ‘use’ for him in the football world is as a rent-a-gob on the telly.

I saw the game, except for the first two minutes. How is my view of Aqualani wrong? (And shouldn't you be replying in the thread in which I gave an (albeit) limited view on Aqualani?)

He only came into the game when we went 1 - 0 up and Leeds began to tire, so overall I'd rate it as mediocre.

Mediocre against 3rd Division Leeds. Terrible against Sunderland. Below average against Arsenal youth and reserves. Not a good trend, and with Aqualani fit, falling further out of contention. I don't think he's got enough technical ability to compensate for a lack of strength and stature.

I'm not here to entertain you, cretin; just stick to your 'negging' button as you obviously haven't got the brain power to put forward a credible argument.

He looks more physically imposing than I thought he would, so I'm more confident the physical aspect of the league wont drag him down.

Degen Ngog Insua (for the goal) -
Kuyt is the most technically deficient regular I’ve ever seen. He’s the only player that routinely tackles himself.

Hicks looked like a Guy that someone was holding up and shaking about. He's looking old and well haggered, and I reckon he'll be dead in about two years.

1. Benny 2. Torres 3. Lucas -
He played well, but that's his forte - last minute blocks and challanges in and around the 18-yard box, as Hansen pointed out in his analysis on MOTD2. He's a liability when he's further up the pitch and could easily have been on a yellow for bringing down Rooney near the half way line when he got done. And if we have to sacrifice the attacking tendencies of the full backs and adopt a more compact i.e. defensive formation - inviting the opposition to attack just so Carragher can be more more effective then I think we'll be going backwards.
-
He had a good game, so it might put the lid on the-senior-players-don't-trust-him-with-the-ball mind readers for a few days.
