  1. They have this semi-automated VAR for offside, don’t they? We didn’t see the computerised images for their first goal though which suggests it wasn’t working. I might have been embarrassed by playing a weak side except we lost at Toulouse as well which means placing a were decided by the other games.
  2. I'm hoping this becomes relevant: accordingly to Google, "You're shit and you know you are" translates into German as, "Du bist scheisse und du weisst, dass du es bist" Not sure it scans, unfortunately
  3. It’s not compulsory. Allow him as many varied experiences as you can and he’ll grow up a rounded individual who can make his own choices. It’s you I feel for. Ive shared some fantastic experiences with my lad, coaching his team, watching him play and taking him to the match. The highlight being together in the ataturk (he was 13) - an experience referenced in his wedding speech this year. You need to find another vehicle with which you can bond.
  4. Awful place to get to, awful game to watch. No one (apart from Dave) mentions the context of the numerous yellow cards awarded to palace. They were in that mode of slowing the game down, time wasting over goal kicks, obstructing quick free kicks and going down with “cramp”. The ref did well to identify the issue and punish it accordingly - most don’t. and we started to play well when we increased the tempo and had a right back play wide right. Time was we had hendo, Trent and mo forming a triangle with a view to getting one of them beyond the back line. It doesn’t happen now with the inverted role but that’s where the first goal came from and, I’d argue, the second too. trent has an amazing range of passing on either foot but I’m not sure he can play in midfield. His body position is wrong to accept the ball, he’s often not available for a short pass from CB (bring back xabi) and, as we saw satdee, he can lose the ball taking the wrong option. Bring back plan A.
  5. I felt after the Citeh game we should shot from outside the box more often. Felt we overdid it a tad Sunday but the result suggests otherwise.
  6. Let’s not bother with referees. Have a couple of guys watching a TV somewhere and a buzzer that sounds pitchside to stop play when the guy at the monitor wants to investigate the position of the forwards big toe.
  7. Akanji pulls Ali’s arm so deffo a foul. And he fouled him again before the game finished so it looks like a Citeh ploy. As a slightly irrelevant aside, Haaland looks like his mum shagged a troll.
  8. Now that Brailsford has been appointed to their sporting board I expect to see some backpedaling
  9. We’ve also binned the concept of “level”.
  10. As someone who was sitting in the SKD I can confirm Mbuemo’s effort was going wide. Shouldn’t detract from Ali’s save though
  11. I have no issue with this accept the officials don’t understand what a natural position is. Athletes throwing themselves around a playing field don’t always have their arms by their sides
  12. Both were trying to get their body between the ball a the opposition player. No intent to stamp or stud and not reckless.
  13. I think the red card was harsh. In the Curtis draw. Lose next time out and no European footy after Christmas
  14. What we lack is a “stock” goal. We don’t seem to have a plan in the last third - what are we trying to do? Citeh work hard to get a player behind the line of defenders before crossing to players attacking the six yard box (often haaland). We don’t get runners like that since Trent and robbo stopped making that effort (no doubt, under instruction). We need something to replace that if we don’t reintroduce it.
  15. Kieran McKenna, the Ipswich manager, is a Utd fan apparently. Would be an interesting appointment but I don’t think they’d have the balls
  16. Think the pen at Brighton was given for a foul on Luis
  17. For me, the minute’s applause was all about charlton - we did kenwright on Thursday. But I guess I’m of an older generation…
  18. If I worked with the best in the world every day I think I’d be better at 1 on 1s. I can’t see the current selection policy changing until we play someone half decent. I suspect these athletes are trained to cope with 2 games a week and not playing will disrupt the regime. Hopefully the slightly reduced workload will mean we manage January and February better than we usually do.
  19. There are some major differences in rugby. 10 yards further up the pitch is greatly more significant in rugby. It may turn a kick for touch into a kick for goal for example. Also, players are offside if they’re not 10 yards behind the point of the penalty. A whingeing centre forward can’t stand and mouth off at the ref or other players from the halfway line - he needs to be 10 yards behind the ball. That’s why the ball advancing option experiment was abandoned in footy.
  20. I met des lynam once; not a very nice person (to me at any rate)
