  1. Installed some music software for Herbie Flowers and instead of payment he played tuba on one of our albums. I was doing some volunteer work for a hospice and I was asked to go down to a local pub and count the money from a giant scotch bottle. Liam Brady (the Brighton manager at the time) was there to break the bottle. We ended up counting the money together and I spent the rest of the evening talking with him. A very sound guy, interesting, intelligent and discrete. Far too good for Brighton :-)
  2. Er... OK, I haven't posted a lot but hey that's life. Sometimes it's shit and time isn't always ours. If I'd been paying attention in January it would not have got this far. So apologies for not coming back then. You will in fact see that I have made a few other posts since then so I've not exactly been off the board for 45 days. Oh dear..... this really shouldn't be necessary but at least it gives me a chance to vent some of my anger about the accusations thrown at me I fucking hate the mancs. I hate their fucking arrogance and their fucking manager (ginsoak I believe is the correct word?). I hate the way they are feted in the press and especially how this team are supposedly going to win the quintuple. Each time I've seen them on the box they've looked less than secure. Poor finishing by opposing sides, lenient referees and some lucky last minute goals disguise the fact they aren't actually anywhere near as good as people say they are. They were lucky against Inter and it ran out on Saturday. I've cared about this club for as long as I can remember and that's near enough 50 years. As I said at the beginning of this thread I lived through the Shankly era and I also remember when United went down to the old second division. Oh, happy days :-)
  3. Well, I've been here since August last year when I was given a copy of TLW by a mate and loved it so much I took out a subscription and joined the site. Either I'm a very clever and patient WUM or just a bloke that doesn't get that much time to hang about and learn the lingua franca of this board. We can't all live in or anywhere near Liverpool and I wasn't even aware of this site until I got that copy of TLW. I do hope you give a chap a decent chance before hurling unforgivable insults.
  4. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth it. It seems that people can spray around fucks and cunts like they're going out of fashion but because I don't use the right words I am suspected of being a WUM. There's obviously no fucking point in trying to gain credibility as it seems I'm already tarred. You have no fucking idea about me and you have no fucking idea how much I resent your accusations. Yes, I am internet savvy but none of the forums I belong to have any concept of negging or repping. Although your mention of a button got me searching and I'm guessing they are the buttons on the top right. Well Mr Wom, you have me completely wrong. One day you will apologise my friend.
  5. Apologies for bumping this but I wasn't having a good time in January and took my eye of the ball so to speak and never picked up on some of the replies. I'm still not convinced about Rafa and still think he ploughs his own field with little regard for the opinions of anybody else but this is not the reason for this bump. Thanks to those who agreed and if I knew how to REP someone I would. And now to the point. A fucking United WUM? Give me a fucking break. That's just about the worse insult I've ever had on any forum and I demand you apologise forthwith otherwise I'll NEG you (if I knew how). My Dad is from Edge Hill and if he could still walk without 2 sticks I'd send him round to sort you out. As much as I'd like to be on here everyday talking bollox I simply don't have the time but do enjoy dropping in now and again for a bit of harmless banter. Excuse my lack of knowledge when it comes to the correct terminology for but I'm sure I'll get educated as we go along. Now fucking apologise!
  6. Maybe, but his comments to Terry were brilliant and anyone who says he hates Chelsea and then proceeds to tell Lampard that Gerrard is a better footballer than him has to get my vote!
  7. Delighted with the result of course and the best bit is showing the Mancs up for what they are - a team that got a lot of luck at the right time. I haven't seen them (the Mancs that is!) look totally in control of any of their games (that I've caught on Sky) this season. They were bloody lucky that Ibrahimivanovebitch missed the excellent chances he had for Inter on Wednesday and that a defensive error gave them their first goal. Last minute goals, poor finishing by opposing sides and "lenient" referees have disguised the fact that United aren't nearly as good as the press make out. I still don't think we'll overturn the points deficit or the goal difference but hey, let me bask in the aura created by this most wonderful of weeks and break open that Spanish (had to be!) sparkly I've been saving :-)
  8. We're just filling in time between birth and death. As far as I can see, the only truths in life are birth and death and I've not found any proof of any life before or after death, At the end of your life all you have are memories so make those memories as good as you can but try and do it without hurting anyone else. After all if all they have left is memories of you causing them pain then that's not good. What I've never got my head around though is the sheer amount of pain in this world and the random nature of accidents of birth and how that determines whether you're butchered by your neighbour as he doesn't like your religion or you're Fernando Torres.
  9. Football fans are fickle bastards and tend to have knee jerk reactions. Players, managers and referees are heroes or villains and switch between the roles in fractions of a second. We aren't all blessed with the ability of sitting back and taking a balanced view because we are often so passionate about our clubs that reason goes out the window. Rafa is making baffling decisions. We were top of the league not because we were playing exceptionally well but we had a good run whilst others were faltering (but that's how championships are won anyway). For me and many others it felt like we should have won more games but the manager's decisions have contributed to some lacklustre performances where we appeared to be trying not lose rather than to win. We got out of jail on Saturday and were lucky. I'd have preferred to have seen the big guns on at the start and the match won but I'll take a win however it comes. Rafa seems like a decent bloke but he'll continue to get stick whilst he keeps on making strange decisions. We might have beaten United without Torres and Gerrard but we've also dropped a staggering number of points at home and the only reason we were top is because the other teams were also dropping points. Wigan, Stoke, Hull, West Ham. All teams we should have buried and didn't. We have one striker worthy of the name and he's not fully fit yet. Rafa continues with N'Gog when it's quite obvious from his recent performances that he's not on the pace and can we afford the luxury of allowing him to get there? (Do we have any other option and if not why not?) We've some big matches coming up and I think Rafa has to get it right in his team selection or there will be the inevitable backlash. Fuck, in the end I just want us to play good football and win games but at the moment we're doing neither at any consistent level.
  10. To the tune of that opera song whose title I can't remember. Mourinho normally crops (or should the be craps?) up in most versions Fabio Aurelio beats Ronaldhino We love him on the Kop He'll take us to the top it's a start :) Him and Yossi both had good games on Saturday.
  11. Funnily enough I've always liked Kuyt. I think he keeps defenders busy and on his day can be very effective. The problem for me is that he was bought as a striker (iirc) and hasn't really been used as one and has lost his edge. Great goal on Saturday though, there was no way he should have been able to score from there. I just hope he's got his shooting boots back on for the rest of the season as we're going to need him and Babel to deliver. Poor old Ngog, he must be aware that he's out of his depth (or maybe he isn't aware if Rafa keeps picking him).
  12. Thanks guys. Dunno if I'm a full member but I do subscribe to TLW and get the magazine delivered. Edit again: No - I can't see a signature change. Maybe I need to be told how to become a full member. Cheers
  13. Having started this I better nail my colours to the mast. Regardless of his previous history I think Platini is looking forward with his ideas. What we have now is financially unsustainable in my view and will end in many clubs going to the wall. We need control over spending and reward. Guys earning 100k a week when a good proportion of fans earn less than 20K a year cannot continue in the present climate. Reality needs to take a hold and it worries me that our league will be decimated by clubs going to the wall with large debts that the banks will not now service. We're living on borrowed time guys. Let's hope the blokes running it all realise that and instigate change.
  14. So how do I get that signature bit a the bottom of a post? I've tried editing all sorts but can't find the signature. Sorry for being stupid... Edit::: how do I correct a spelling mistake in the title?
  15. Money? It's like session musicians. The best can charge a fortune per hour and although you might want them on a couple of tracks you couldn't afford to have them join the band.
  16. I was going to ask "really?" but thinking about it I guess there would have been nothing stopping a club bringing in player on a contract then getting rid of him after one game but surely that couldn't have been right otherwise someone would have exploited it....
  17. An interesting interview with Michel Platini on the BBC website Michel Platini A lot of thought provoking stuff but I particularly liked his take on the Beckham "loan" to Milan. And I quote "When the conversation turned to David Beckham's move to AC Milan, Platini again bristled, arguing it is not right the midfielder should come to Milan on a three-month loan. So much so that he plans to raise the issue with Fifa. Players, he believes, should make a commitment to a club for a season, or not at all. "What next? Clubs signing a player for one game? The Champions League final?" questioned Platini" You could then take it a step further and be like American Football and have a player you only bring on for free kicks and goes off again after he's taken it. The possibilities are endless. I'm getting a bit scared now............
  18. Last night I came the nearest to putting my foot through the TV since Jon Arne's own goal against Chelsea. Gutted does not describe it. I blame ITV. I'm convinced if they hadn't gone to the adverts Everton would not have scored.
  19. He looked good against Torres 'cos Torres was either not fit (but what options does Rafa have?) or he couldn't be arsed. I'm not sure which one I hope it is...
  20. I haven't had time to read the whole thread so this may have already been covered and my apologies if it has. Bruce Grobbawotsits said at half time someone would be sent off before a goal was scored. Do you think he had a bet? On the Lucas saga, I thought he looked to be playing a little better last night (not that that means a lot) but the second foul was inexcusable and stupid. Up until then it had been pretty even with us just edging it I thought but once we were down to 10 it was always going to be a struggle to score with what appeared to be a half fit Torres and no other strikers worth the name out there. Anyway, how the fuck did that lad manage to even get a shot in when he had 3 defenders on top of him?
  21. Yes I'm afraid it's all my fault. Since Rafa's little outburst I've either not been able to watch the games or I've been sitting in the wrong armchair or I started watching too early or too late. Yesterday I got it right. Sat down in the right armchair just as we kicked off ;) Must concentrate for future games. What "superstitions" do you have?
  22. Get a grip? I think I've got a grip but I'm not sure Rafa has. He's making some bizarre decisions. I really hope that the Wigan draw has the same effect as the Barnsley defeat last season and we now see a different team against Chelsea.
