  1. What Evans actually said: "We also tried to get the French guys Lilian Thuram and Marcel Desailly but we couldn't attract them. If they came to England it was only ever going to be to a London club." Utd also failed to lure Thuram. The idea that Sheringham, shagger of BB Z-listers, wouldn't have joined in the spice boy shenanigans is hard to believe.
  2. That makes Rafa a liar as he commented: "He was one of our names. He decided to go there and he knows why." "Those players are not here but I'm really pleased with my squad," he said. "Every year we try to sign the players that we think are good enough for us. Also, now in modern football, players prefer more money and that's something you can't control. I think that you must pay the money that you can pay and only pay the right money for each player. We can compete if we want but we want to pay the right money for the right players." That smacks of Malouda chasing the dosh to me.
  3. No, your anti-Parry agenda blinds you to any financial pragmatism. Malouda himself didn't seem overly fussed about coming to Anfield and appeared to fly a kite inviting other suitors. A subsequent bidding war with Chelsea would be sheer madness. As others have said, I'm sure every manager could regale you with tales of the one that got away. Ask a bluenose...
  4. Should Alonso flourish at Arsenal, and Barry perform ok in a Liverpool side that finishes 4th; then Rafa is history. He'd have to be mad or very confident to put himself in such a position.
  5. Seems to have more license with Spain to get forward. If we let him join Arsenal it could seriously backfire on us.
  6. Given his age there's a chance of improvement in his game and a few years before he hits his peak. That said I think he's a signing that could flourish or just as easily struggle.
  7. These would be a different set of fans to those who previously berated the club for paying over the odds? Countless threads last season hammered Babel for not being a £12m player.
  8. It's a dead heat, neither has any musical virtue but fit snuggly into that safe bracket that gets them loads of airplay.
  9. I should agree but I actually wish Houllier had been kept on a tighter leesh. I do wonder if the size of the Keane fee allied with his age has given the club cold feet about splashing 18mil on another player at his peak.
  10. It's just a loan, so Keane can't lose. With Kenwyne Jones and Cisse they'll have the opportunity to mix it up a bit.
  11. Great thread. Funniest of all is picking out those that normally defend Rafa's mediocre signings suddenly unable find a positive.
  12. Clough sadly joined just as we moved away from pass n move, otherwise the comparisons with Kenny/Beardsley are obvious; tho he wasn't in their league. Oh for a modern day Steve Heighway...
  13. The Black Panther A bit of a rarity this, a 70s film based on the true story of Yorkshire serial killer Donald Neilson; who's still serving life. A real docudrama feel and lacking in tension - so 2/5.
  14. His brother, Anthony (Tony Klebell), is fantastic in Control as Rob Greton. Think he's also in Guy Ritchie's latest.
  15. Is right. I'm sure at another club, playing regularly, he could reach the heights of James Milner.8)
  16. Were that true I'd imagine most managers would walk within 12 months. This Rafa picks em/Parry concludes the deal has an almost childlike naivety to the complexities of real life and finances.
  17. I happened to like Danny.
