  1. I think Rafa heard your calls  Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | Liverpool | Benitez calls for 'trust'
  2. Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | Liverpool | Season shape-up Rafa Benitez says it will be his greatest achievement if he can lead Liverpool to the Premier League title and the pressure is on to mount a serious challenge for England's top prize. In the latest of our Shaping up for the Season series, Peter O'Rourke takes an in-depth look at what The Reds need to finish at the summit. Overview Liverpool have been nearly men in the Premier League under Rafa Benitez failing to seriously challenge for the title Reds fans are desperate to win above any other one. Benitez, who is preparing for his fourth season at Anfield, has enjoyed success in the UEFA Champions League, but has struggled to find the right formula to succeed in the Premier League. The Reds have finished no higher than third under Benitez and last term they came in fourth behind Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal. Over the last few seasons Liverpool have closed the gap on the leading pack in regards to points at the end of the season and he will need to find more improvement if they are to finally end their 18-year wait for the Premier League. Liverpool's poor home form dented their ambitions of fighting for the title and Benitez has pin-pointed an improvement in defending set-pieces as key to their hopes of going all the way in championship race. With a few quality additions to an already star-studded squad Liverpool could finally end their overdue search for the league title. What's happened so far Benitez has shown a tendency to raid his native Spain for new players, but it appears he may be changing his focus this summer by going for English talent. There have rumblings of not much money being made available for Benitez's budget, but the Spaniard will be hoping American duo George Gillett and Tom Hicks can put their problems behind them to provide the funds for some major deals. The only new faces at Anfield this summer are Swiss defender Philipp Degen who has arrived on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund and Italian international Andrea Dossena from Udinese Dossena, who becomesthe first outfield Italian to join the Reds, will be a straight replacement for John Arne Riise who has left for Roma after seven successful years at Anfield. Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri from Palmeiras is on the cusp of a move to Anfield to provide cover for Jose Reina to cast further doubt over the future of Scott Carson. Harry Kewell has departed after seeing out his contract and Benitez will be keen to bring in a new winger to help solve the problematic left-sided position. The Reds are involved in a very public pursuit of Aston Villa and England international Gareth Barry as Benitez looks to unite him with England team-mate Steven Gerrard. Should Liverpool be successful in their attempts to snare Barry, Xabi Alonso is expected to leave with Juventus already holding talks over a possible move for the classy Spaniard. A number of other players could be offloaded in a bid to trim the squad and raise funds for Benitez's transfer plans. Peter Crouch is on the verge of a move to Portsmouth after Liverpool agreed a deal for the England international. Yossi Benayoun could be sacrificed with the likes of Portsmouth, Tottenham and Ajax all credited with an interest in the Israeli international. Jermaine Pennant could also be walking on dangerous ground with the winger failing to win over his detractors since arriving from Birmingham two seasons ago. What they need Liverpool scored more goals than anyone in all competitions last season and Benitez has admitted he is hoping to shore up his defence next term. Benitez was alarmed by the number of goals conceded from set-pieces and he has moved to address this problem by bringing in two new full-backs in the shape of Degen and Dossena. He is unlikely to look for any new central defenders having brought in Martin Skrtel last January to provide cover for Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia. The return of Daniel Agger from injury will also be a welcome boost with the Dane missing the most of last year with a foot problem. In midfield, Benitez needs to bring in two tricky, skilful wingers to provide the ammunition for Fernando Torres. With the right supply from the wings, Torres could even beat his tally of 33 goals in his debut season last term. A striker or a withdrawn attacker to play alongside Torres would help ease the burden on the young Spaniard's shoulders after he exceeded all expectations in his first year at Anfield. Euro 2008 top scorer David Villa has been confirmed as a target by Benitez, but Liverpool are likely to be priced out of the market for the Valencia hit-man. Tottenham's Robbie Keane has also been mentioned as a possible target, but it would take a major bid to persuade Spurs to let the Irishman leave White Hart Lane. It would allow skipper Steven Gerrard to move back into his preferred position of midfield from where he could drive the team forward. What they'll get Barry is more than likely to end up at Anfield with the player expressing a desire to move to Liverpool and Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill resigned to losing the midfielder. Milner could make the move from Newcastle to Liverpool with the winger thought to be keen on a switch to Merseyside. A deal for Downing could be more problematic with Middlesbrough determined not to lose one of their star performers. A new goalkeeper will arrive to provide cover for Jose Reina with Charles Itandje set to move on. I was wondering how much (If any of it) everyone agrees/disagrees with.Obviously its not a truly monumental plan but just another point of view

  9. Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | Liverpool | Work starts on Reds ground Liverpool have begun work on their new 60,000-seater stadium after the club were granted full planning permission by Liverpool city council. The new ground at Stanley Park, which could ultimately be capable of holding up to 73,000 supporters, will replace The Reds' current home at Anfield and is expected to be completed for the beginning of the 2011/12 season. The club has also received outline planning permission for a mixed use development on the existing Anfield stadium site. Co-chairman George Gillett told the club's official website: "This is a significant milestone for the club and I am delighted that the design received full planning consent and that we are now on site. Sorry if this pretty much is a repeat of whats been said Sounds good even though Hicks is a bit of a Batty Boy! Unique "We have been working very hard over the last six months to move the details of the design along but this is the first tangible evidence for fans that a New LFC Stadium will be built. "The stadium design is unique and will be recognised across the world as the Liverpool FC Stadium. It incorporates a Kop stand that will hold 18,000 fans and we hope that the stadium will be as noisy and atmospheric on a matchday as Anfield." Co-chairman Tom Hicks added: "We recognise the importance of a new LFC Stadium as part of the wider regeneration of the local area. Regeneration "We have watched the council transform Stanley Park over the last six months and the ongoing refurbishment of houses in the Anfield/ Breckfield area. "I am pleased that now the club has received full planning permission it can join the regeneration process with the commencement of enabling works." EDIT: Hicks might be a bit of a Batty but this sounds like an actually step forward in the whole process now so fingers crossed!
  10. I really hope that comes off, if it did, we could easily become the most feared* team in europe let alone the prem Sidenote: *More feared :P
  11. I fucking love this! Repped!
  12. I love how quick masher is! No wonder he is so lethal!
  13. Did anybody go last night at Wembley, i did and it was immense! Right near the front for most of it but moved to the back for the end. Good set list, Zane Lowe filling in the gaps nicely between bands. The Futureheads were good but Supergrass didnt get a look in basically.I helped the cup snake which most people were much more interested in and it was showed on the screen The rotating stage was cool but the top bit was first Led Zepplin's Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones joining them for a few songs but basically Grohl was made up by it all saying it was the greatest night of his life and it was sumed up when they did the quiet bit of Best Of You and Dave looked down, hair over his eyes and stayed there for a good 15 seconds then looked up little flushed and wiped one or two tears from his eyes... Truely magical night and outta the 6 times ive seen them in the last 6 years, it was the best
  14. Sorry if posted already guys.... Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | Liverpool | Dossena delight at Reds deal Andrea Dossena is delighted to become the first Italian international to play for Liverpool The Udinese left-back will complete his move to Anfield in the coming days after undergoing a medical on Merseyside earlier this week. Speaking exclusively to skysports.com, Dossena's agent Federico Pastorello revealed his client's delight at signing for Liverpool. "I understand he is the first Italian international to play for Liverpool - a great opportunity for him and he is really happy," Pastorello revealed. Dossena is expected to finalise his transfer in the next 48 hours before being unveiled by The Reds next week in a deal believed to be worth around £7million. "He had his medical on Wednesday and we are just awaiting the formalities of that but we would think everything will be signed very shortly," he continued. "An agreement between the clubs was hard, but we all found it and everything is now ready." The 26-year-old had a tremendous campaign with Udinese, which included his debut for Italy, and Pastorello admits Liverpool beat a number of clubs to seal his signature. "There were many teams interested in him," he confirmed. "He was the best left-back in Italy last year, arguably along with the boy [Juan]Vargas at Catania. "So it was natural that there will be interest in the best left-back in Serie A, but to have the chance to work with a coach like Rafa Benitez was something he could not turn down. "That was an important aspect of his decision and he cannot wait to get started."
  15. Basically following the trend of naff footy shirt, football moves copied as a kid and favorite players from the past, i thought i would start a football injuries one, but not the kind you watch on youtube, i mean you actually have to be there, watching or playing. I remember not too long ago, i was playing for my school team and i turned this defender and crossed the ball into the box, our other striker and a centre half smashed heads and there was blood, lots of blood, rivaling most horror flicks. The match was abandoned as the ref felt the two teams basically had it in for each other afterwards haha What kinda of injuries have you guys witnessed, maybe even suffered yourself ?
  16. Hahaha it sure does! I remember my thread about him on LFC TV while back managed to rack up a few posts. He was one of those..."special" players, however you interprate that is up to you
  17. Take it you have tried formatting the player, (You do this by unplugging it from the computer, then you turn off the player, and then you press the play button while also powering your player on, once you see the creative labs logo release the play button, a screen will appear, select format, then yes (it will delete all of your information on the player) then once you are done formatting select reboot.
  18. And you have inspired me now to try harder
  19. Totally agreed. We should be letting the opponents work out how to beat us instead of us figuring out how to beat them, the weaker sides that is , like you said
  20. Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | Liverpool | Rafa ready to ring the changes Rafa Benitez is hoping to start his summer rebuilding program at Liverpool as soon as possible. The Reds finished 11 points behind Premier League champions Manchester United this season, and are desperate to mount a serious bid for the crown next year. Benitez admits that alterations to the personnel at Anfield are imperative, and has already drawn up a list of targets. However, rather than wait for the transfer market to begin in earnest over the summer, the Spaniard is keen to get the process in motion immediately. "We are working hard to improve the squad," Benitez said. "Throughout the whole season, we are watching players and trying to sign the players we need. "We want to sign the best players as soon as possible and I think we will get investment from the owners, so we can go forward." Positives Benitez already has the foundations of a title-chasing team in place, but needs to complement his big-game players with more world-class talent. Fernando Torres has been a revelation during his first season in England, while Jose Reina continues to provide a solid last line of defence. Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and Javier Mascherano are all proven at the highest level, but silverware continues to elude the Reds. "We did not win silverware but you talk about 119 goals, the goalkeeper has won the Golden Gloves Award again for the third time in a row," said Benitez. "And with Torres, he was terrific at scoring and 76 points is a good total for us. There are a lot of positive things from this season, but the most important thing is we did not win a trophy." The last bit being really true but i hope rafa's idea of quality is the same as our :| but all in all sounds promising, just hope we get what we deserve
  21. Zidane, obvious i know but since im only 17 i don't have much to choose from but never the less, i loved watching him play and was gutted during the world cup when he got himself sent off but the Italian bastard had it coming! Zizou!
