  1. It's the death of proper sports journalism though. The big broadcasters and newspapers want coverage from all the big clubs and won't risk alienation from them, no matter how banal the stories fed to them by the press officers. And no journalist dares challenge the status quo at the mancs because Ferguson bars you and all your colleagues from his kingdom, which won't go down well with your editor. So they toe the party line and act as little more than propagandists, instead of asking the questions we want the answers to.
  2. Yeah, ginsoak. Big, bad Liverpool manipulating the FA and referees. You'd never do that, would you? Self-righteous hypocrite. And wanker.
  3. I like him. He's not perfect by any means and I'd rather see other players in the back 4 in time but now we're going back to basics and building on clean sheets (for better or worse), his aggressive attitude and uncompromising style is most welcome. According to Rafa, one of Davies' famous elbows knocked one of his teeth out, but as has been said despite his aerial prowess he never got out of the Greek's pocket.
  4. If we're indeed getting this Greek fullback by paying a nominal loan fee and his wages until June, I'd be interested to know which striker you think we should have spent that on and how for that money he's any better than what's already here.
  5. I hope we're looking for a striker as well, but I don't see us paying for anyone, so that'll have to wait until the end of the season.
  6. Extremely difficult to separate them. They all have their qualities and are all utterly instrumental in the way their teams play. It's a shame that we've got the most injury prone of the three, though I can't help but feel some of that is down to Spain's (mis)use of him over the past 2 years. I used to think Rooney was massively overrated, but he's really starting to look like the player everyone thought he would be when he broke through for Everton. He seems to relish being the manc's talisman in the absence of Ronaldo. He's found some maturity - the petulance and spite is still there but it's massively reined in now. Drogba is an awesome player - the one player I fear above any other because of his previous displays against us and our inability to handle him thesedays. On the other hand, Chelsea have Anelka, who would walk into ours or the manc's side - they're not as reliant on him as we are on Torres or the mancs are on Rooney. Still, one thing is good - it's nice to have one of our players included in this debate.
  7. Yep. We could have bid 3 times that and the bitter gobshite would have hawked him elsewhere.
  8. Probably. Everyone's a winner - 'Arry gets to tap up a player in public with the added defence of "answering a direct question", journos get their paper-selling transfer stories.
  9. I could definitely pass on him. And by pass, I mean pass water.
  10. I genuinely can't stand the fucker. He's my biggest irrational hatred in football. I think it's the amount of times he discusses other clubs players in interviews, and the amount of shit players he signs who disappear without trace, and yet he never cops any flack from the press because he's like a character out of an Ealing Studios film.
  11. Nadal is the only player whose defensive game can absorb all the pressure that Federer applies. He's superb at striking the ball aggressively from difficult positions on the court, instantly turning a defensive return into an attacking shot that puts his opponent on the back foot. That's the only reason Federer has lost anything like the number of slam finals he has. Murray is a very good, very intelligent player. Federer is just better.
  12. Totally different to when we got rid of Ged. Our ownership situation wasn't great back then; nor was the potential transfer fund situation. But there was scope for improvement with new investment being searched out, and the playing field was more even. We didn't outspend everybody, but we outspent most. We all agreed there were better managers out there than Houllier. Moving forward to now and, despite being mostly sympathetic with the manager this season, I am wavering on the edge of taking the plunge and calling for his resignation (mainly due to some of the gutless, insipid non-events we've witnessed recently) but his saving grace is my total lack of faith in the owners. Now, with regards to the ownership situation, the debt repayments are as bad as they could be and their knowledge of football matters is terrifyingly non-existant. I wouldn't trust them to appoint a new tea-lady. And the playing field is less even. We used to get outspent by Chelsea, the mancs and sometimes Arsenal. Those teams, plus City, Tottenham, Villa (to an extent) and even the likes of Sunderland and Birmingham outspend us regularly. That's not being offered as an excuse for Rafa, but it is the conditions any new guy would have to operate with. In short, whilst I can tentatively see sense in bringing in a new manager to reinvigorate the current squad, I worry whether we'd get the right man, and whether he could build on the team/squad we have currently. It's a moot point anyway, because I don't see him walking (he's too bloody-minded for that) and the owners won't sack him. I can't remember if I've posted this before, but as far as I'm concerned, the fans and the owners have different expectations. We demand a title chase, the owners 4th place. They'll see the table and see us right in the mix for qualification next season. They don't have the understanding or inclination to care about our relative performances compared with our competitors. So I suspect they see our position as healthy. Same as they see our finances. Balls.
  13. Oh, and my bugbear of the moment (bar last night's non-event): is Darren Fletcher the most sung-about "unsung hero" of all time?
  14. He was having a right go at Tevez before the penalty as well. Obviously didn't put him off much like, great penalty. His huffy, Kevin-the-teenageresque tantrums are funny as well. He had one at the end. A man with more money than God stropping around like a child. Good stuff.
  15. First thing I do on Football Manager (well, not the first but up there) if playing as Liverpool is cancel the link with AshantiGold and set up a new one somewhere else. It's utterly, utterly pointless unless you've got a massive database and a league running in Ghana. Then it becomes utterly pointless.
  16. I believe is in it. (Charlotte off of the Inbetweeners). Oh my.
  17. He didn't turn the volume up on his speakers. What's the point of technology if the officials don't even know how to use it!?
  18. Read Lawro's predictions on my lunch break today on the BBC website. He's fucking loving all of this, the big wanker.
  19. Find that employee, I've got some rep for him!
  20. I can't defend that. Utterly, utterly awful. I haven't got a clue where we go from here, I haven't got a clue who could do a better job under the laughable circumstances our club are in but something has to give. I'm stuck for words. Outplayed by fucking Reading. A managerless club in the M4 corridor. I've not felt so despondent about football in all my life.
  21. Shit decision, and there's no Ngogesque outrage about players diving. Just to be expected says the commentator, at this late stage in a game. Still, we've been absolute turd tonight.
