  1. Thats near enough how i feel. These days, if it doesnt involve us i couldnt give a shit. Quite miss the days when i could watch a match without screamin at the tele and endlessly brewing over the injustice of it all!!! Despite all the shit involving the turmoil at the club, we really are lucky to support the redmen. No matter what happens were still the greatest club in the world!!!
  2. True, but for some uni is the best time of their life, they make alot of friends, fall in love with the city and thus support the team through that projection. I do agree tho but a link is a link as opposed to those who glory hunt or fancy being a part of something popular. Dan thomas wrote about this in the fanzine a while back and near enough nailed it. It went along the lines of feeling all the exact same frustrations of a local without the accent and the geographic placement to speak out without lookin like a nob or a wannabe.
  3. Ha ha true! There are thousands of us but considering Wigan is less than 18 miles from the ground its hardly surprising, and for many of my age, wigan hardly even had a football team and teams such as Liverpool, Everton, Bolton, and the mancs were local teams. Having said that all my family is from Liverpool and i do believe that if you arnt necessarily from the city you should have a definite link, be it family, time spent there at uni etc. Im secure in my plasticness and bemoan the wiganese corruption of my early scouse accent but im fiercly proud of my scouse roots and could so easily have been a blue but for the sanity of my family. The city is 99% of the reason i support the reds, for me its part of my heritage and identity and i will forever associate the club with family, wether that be my family or the club family that combines the same ideologies and traditions which i hold dear to my heart. As long as fans (be them local or OTT) respct that (and know the words to YNWA for fucks sake - i have seen that far too many times) then all is fine by me. As a side note, the same discussion could be held about scouse rugby league or cricket fans who support St Helens, Wigan and Lancashire - Ricky Tomlinson (Saints), Robbie Fowler (Wigan) and my uncle who is the definition of a scouser (Lancashire).
  4. If the mancs got nearly a combined 10 million for richardson and jonny evans (who?) then we shud ask for at least 4-5 mill for guthrie. Wont happen tho! Plus he's english that adds at least an extra few mill dont it? And while im rantin; if the blues can get 10 mill for johnson... It really is madness!
  5. John Barnes is a ledge but ive met him twice and twice he burned me. The first time was my first ever match at the grobbelaar testimonial against the blues in 92. Met outside the centenary and my uncle asked for an autograph for me, he replied "have you got a pen", the very second we turned round to ask someone for a pen he was in his car and driving away :0( The second time was at uni, was walking down bold street n this huge bloke walked into me n nearly knocked me over, i apologised and was grunted at. It was only when i heard some lads behind me say it was John Barnes that i felt the scourned pain of that 9 year old boy again (which i was in 92) Still love him tho...the bastard!
  6. Maybe slightly off topic but... There seems to be two things thrown at Rafa on other threads at the moment - his reluctance to play the youth and his seemingly poor eye for an attacking player. After reading the interview and seeing the constant suspicion surrounding Rafa's transfer and youth policies i got to thinking about (1) Rafas success with the Real Madrid youth teams (winning a couple of leagues and a cup from 91-93) and (2) the awesome attacking brilliance of his Valencia team that was one of only a few teams in our history to take the piss at Anfield. That is not the record of a man who is guilty of the things i mentioned at the start of the post, which once again prescribes to the fact that Rafa just hasnt been allowed to fully implement his true vision yet (which im sure mirrors that Valencia team), whether that be through transfers or the youth (which he seems to be doing imo now). Is there anyway somebody a lot better than me can dig the U19 Real Madrid team up from 1991-1993? Itd be interesting to see who Rafa brought through at that time. Either way concerning our youth - wether he brought a superstar through or not - he has had success with youth teams throughout his career and knows what hes doing. A lot are bemoaning the fact that the young lads arnt getting a chance (me included to be honest) but they must just not be ready or rafa would play them. If those too clowns at the helm of our club can sort it out or fuck off, i really think this could be the start of the real rafalution. Ready or not, we have some fantastic potential in our ressies and youth! Not to mention the spine of a first team that is young and quite frankly awesome.
  7. Ha ha was thinkin exactly the same thing! Does look nifty on those tiny clips tho!
  8. Good Point! And if i could double quote, id quote the original poster and also say, good point!
  9. Me mate works in a well known bank in manchester and has a lot of football clients and he told me a few weeks ago that Yossi told him he was pissed off at Liverpool and was frustrated by his lack of chances. He said he would like to stay but needed to play more football. My mate does lie a fair bit tho!
  10. Ha ha ive seen what you done there - nice! Class film!
  11. Those three you mention just shows the tragedy of it. Particularly Jones and Babbel. Fuckin loved Rob Jones! And that goal against Boro was class!
  12. The other day i watchin the Germans and during my usual lahm drooling (sounds really gay) i got to thinking. Weve been on the look out for a right back and will have to see if Deggen makes the grade but id just like peoples view on just how good they think Vegard Heggem could have been? Was watchin LFCTV the other day and remembered just how much i liked him at the time, was nimble and quick and very much in the Lahm mode. Suspect defensively but was quite young when injury took him down. Apologies if this has been asked before!
  13. And he cant half whip a ball in!!! In all the Barry posts, pro Barry posters point to Barry's delivery, goal scoring and versatility as markers against Alonso. Judge and jury let it be known i think Bullard is better at those three attributes than Barry and if hes not hes not far away and will cost a hell of a lot less! Still dont know what to make of it tho. Either way, are we really that desperate to replace Xabi!
  14. Errr...dont quite know what to make of that! I was watchin some clips of Bullard the other day and said to me brother id have Bullard over Barry but was half taking the piss. I like him and think hes a good player and a top bloke, but for Liverpool? Mad as fuck!
  15. Have i missed something here? Have we signed Jimmy Bullard? Forgive me for daft questions as ive just had a smoke and got highly confused by this post. Isnt the post about a youtube clip of bullard? Once again, have we signed Jimmy Bullard?
  16. The thing that really sends me mad about him is he just doesnt seem to give a fuck. I HATE this man with a passion. Ive seen him questionned a few times about 1989 and he always responds with a little smile. Look at his behaviour on that apprentice comic relief thing. He did fuck all to earn any money and instead focused on bullying that indian bloke but yet he still seems to be on tele every fucking other day. Its like that episode of my name is earl when earl works in that burger factory and the manager is a cunt but has the best of everything. Anyways Earl twats him in the end because Karma didnt do its job properly - but like Randy then says, "karma doesnt have fists". Its time we gave karma the veichle to get its own back!!!!!!!
  17. In no way is this a defense of hicks, but watch the footage of them when they were unveiled at anfield again. Watch how quickly gillette takes his scarf off and throws it to the guy at the side of him (could be parry cant remember) once the the photographers have stopped taking pictures. Also watch the way his smile immediately drops when hes finished addressing a question or making a joke. The guys a snake. Malcom X once mentioned the story of the fox and the wolf. The wolf is a beast with no intention of hiding what he is hence you will always know what your up against. The fox however is sneaky, he'l say the right things, smile at you then steal your chickens and dress up as ya nan. Ok Malcom X didnt say the last bit but the point is there. Give me the wolf anyday, we know what Hicks is (he doesnt really hide it). Gillette is definately the fox in this tale, from day one hes led us all a merry dance and to this day we still dont have a clue as to his true position. The sneaky twat! Once again it isnt a defense of hick we DESPERATELY need them both out but if were forced to choose which is worringy looking likely, id reluctently choose hicks everytime!
  18. A mate of mine bumped into Thommo in Ikea and said he was a right ignorant twat. The Fowler situation was ridiculous! As said above, there was no need for none of that shit! I cant bring myself to really detest him but he does come across that way sometimes (which il forgive when its aimed at that tit merson)!
  19. I cant stop lookin at that picture Stu Monty posted, all my football related discussion as been completely distracted in this post! Yes, i know im perversly sad!
  20. Once again i just noticed iv posted 3 times, so apologies again! Considering i teach IT i really am shite on computers (im a media studies teacher by trade so thats my excuse and the fact my server is POO)!
  21. Dont really know how i feel about Houllier to be honest, i defo dont hate him tho. Like a number of people have already said we has some magic nights under his reign (the FA cup final being my personal favourite). It must be said we also had a lot of bad times and the football we played at times was awful (the vitesse match at anfield was on of the worst games i ever seen, the stadium was half empty and it was fookin freezin). For many of us tho, we were not old enough to remember the glory days and the treble year was the first time many had seen us win something live (aprt from 1992 and 1995). P.S although it could be well argued Houllier was pulling the strings, the season we finished second (our highest finish in the PL era), THOMMO was our manager for a large part of it!
  22. Apologies for the double post, the server was bein a twat! and i dont know how to delete a post!
