1. How's this for an incendiary? Or does he have a point? Don Hutchison Blasts 'Average' Fernando Torres: "Alex Ferguson Wouldn't Pick Him" Scot calls for the signing of a top-class striker By Kevin Emery Jan 6, 2011 6:27:00 PM Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison has blasted the club's star striker Fernando Torres and urged under-pressure manager Roy Hodgson to sign a top-class centre-forward. Torres has been way below his high standards this season and his form is one of the reason's Liverpool are languishing in the bottom half of the table in what has been a disastrous season so far. He has scored just six Premier League goals in 18 appearances, and Hutchison cites Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's handling of Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov as an example Hodgson must follow. Hutchison said in an interview with talkSPORT: “Fernando Torres - his performance levels and his work-rate this season have been so, so bad. “If I was in Roy’s shoes I would go out in the January transfer window and try and buy a top-class centre-forward or someone that can start every single Saturday. “At the minute if Sir Alex Ferguson was managing Torres he would not be in the side. "He’s done it with Berbatov and he’s done it with Rooney. "Unfortunately for Roy he has to play him because he’s a world-class player but his performances have been very, very average. "Liverpool need competition in them places where Roy could then maybe say to Fernando 'you're not doing it, my job's on the line here, I'm going to have to sign strikers that are going to score me goals'." Torres had another poor showing in the 3-1 defeat against Blackburn last night, which has led to Hodgson coming under further pressure from the club's new owners.
2. Well, the Liverpool way is to leave the assistant in charge. It's actually the first time ever that I thought we'd be better off going into a game with no manager. Then you'd really see a response from the players. And those that didn't put a shift in, should be shunted out. Manure mates of mine - independently of each other - have said that they'd shit it if Roy was sacked right now.

4. So, by your logic, if Rafa had taken on a better squad than what we had, he'd be pulling up trees? Didn't happen though did it? If only Rafa was given time, right! The thread title doesn't correlate with your post btw.

6. I expect a very bold appointment, and this would rule out Pellegrini, Van Gaal, O'Neill (and even Kenny) etc. More likely to be either relatively young, or new to the scene; Rangnick, Villas Boas, Michael Laudrup or Klopp. Deschamps just doesn't seem that keen, and Coyle just seems too sheepish or something (Hodgson has done the double on him for us ffs) PS Holloway would be the fucking boldest of all - just can't see it though.
7. The former bassist of (post-punk/new-wave) British band Japan has died today. I'm gutted. Far from a household name, but a truly unique and brilliant fretless-bass player. Went on to work solo, and as a session head. Goodbye Mick Karn
8. I wouldn't be averse to a bold step, and if appointed, RR ticks that box. I don't think that we're going to appoint a 'name' anyway. It doesn't worry me that he's won nothing, but he would certainly seem to be a breath of fresh air. As an aside, a young up-and-coming coach who's already won trophies at a high level doesn't exist - so why bother checking what they've won; it's more important how their philosophy on the game was shaped, and how that relates to FSG's philosophy.
9. I would defo like to see a very fresh approach from the next manager - someone who would be an unknown quantity. Has a presence?!
10. This Klopp chap ain't no Roy when it comes challenges from reporters. I know fuck all else about him, other than he's sitting ten clear on top of the Bundesliga.
11. The Villas Boas link is quite interesting. Yes. AVB pour moi. He seems the kind that would interest NESV. Ticks a lot of boxes, mainly being a bold stroke.
12. Remember being impressed with him being unimpressed with Adrian Chiles on MOTD2... oh, and his tactical analysis of how unambitious we were going forward on the overlap against someone last season. Anyone?
13. I thought he might be a dark horse for manager when Souness was on the slippery slope.
14. I think the Euro campaign has chugged along nicely. Great op for the kids to merge, and show what promise, combined with drive can achieve. What! No 'stowaway' puns? *storms out*
