  1. Faith, man! There's not a game-changer on that bench, but with our first XI we don't need one. Instead, we have to pick 7 from 8 competent and (mostly) experienced professionals. Our last European Final was just two years ago. As a mark of how far we've come, here's our starting line-up and bench from Basel. GK 22 Simon Mignolet RB 2 Nathaniel Clyne CB 6 Dejan Lovren CB 4 Kolo Touré LB 18 Alberto Moreno CM 7 James Milner (c) CM 23 Emre Can RW 20 Adam Lallana AM 11 Roberto Firmino LW 10 Philippe Coutinho CF 15 Daniel Sturridge GK 52 Danny Ward DF 37 Martin Škrtel MF 14 Jordan Henderson MF 21 Lucas MF 24 Joe Allen FW 9 Christian Benteke FW 27 Divock Origi
  2. If I remember rightly, someone on here once predicted that, given his build, Johnson would pull the ripcord like Johnny Barnes once he stopped playing. Well... Check out @DanielAgger’s Tweet: https://twitter.com/DanielAgger/status/998996286538944512?s=09
  3. Fair point. The Republic campaign usually gets a spike of new members at these times. I reckon the accession of Charles and Camilla will give it a massive boost.
  4. Hundreds of people got married on the same day. I suppose I'm happy for all of them equally but I won't give any of them a second thought (except my mate John and his wife Rachel). I resent the fact I had to pay for the most expensive of those weddings and the wall-to-wall fawning and grovelling left me feeling nauseated, not happy.
  5. A couple of mates of mine did a bit of "independent travelling" across Botswana and Zimbabwe years ago. They loved it. The people couldn't be friendlier.
  6. Every day another house round by ours sprouts a flag or a banner or some scarves. I fucking love it.
  7. The only way that would happen in Prince Philip's lifetime is if he were to get up to his old tricks again.
  8. Sorry for the delay but, obviously, this post needs a picture.
  9. Are Stig and Handy yanking our lariats with all these made-up place names?
  10. I had the opposite experience in Dalyan 5 years ago. Everyone was absolutely lovely.
  11. Depends where you go, I suppose. My brother-in-law and his wife and kid are just back and they had a great time. The tourist areas are probably safe as houses. Having said that, it's earning a place on my list of places I'd like to go (like Egypt or Israel) but which I couldn't stomach the thought of paying to support a horrible regime.
  12. The Yoonited States of Murica. There are some things about it that I'd love to see - the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Chess Records, etc. - and I'd love to find out if decent food and booze is available. But the weirdness of the place - the all-pervasive racism; the attachment to guns; the overt, ostentatious patriotism; the distaste for healthcare; the anti-scientific, heretical fundamentalist Christians; the psychological disconnect caused by being the "land of opportunity" and the "sweet land of liberty" which was built on slavery and genocide; etc. - would just make the whole experience too unsettling for me.
  13. Imagine him doing a spoken-word version of the Chelsea classic "We're racist and that's the way we like it".
