  1. What about the Everton side that were champions for 8 seasons in a row??? Eight!!! Nobody will ever beat that record. Unless the next world war lasts longer. (For those who don't 'know their history', Everton won the title in 1938-9. The next team to win the title were Liverpool in 1946-47. People were kind of busy between 39 and 45 to worry too much about football. But w won in 47. Maybe we'd have won it a few other times before that. Maybe we'd be leading 21-19. If it hadn't been for the Second World War..........)
  2. Could be Owen. Unless one of the 859 penalties he took actually did go in. OK - fantasy Football territory here.
  3. League goalscorers?? Hmm. Hunt, Liddell, Hodgson, Rush..... SORRY!! SO SORRY!! I forgot that Sky only invented football in 1992.
  4. Is there a vacancy? I wasn't aware that there was. Or - after defeat at home to Spurs - was the cry 'sack the assistant manager!'? Sammy's pefectly capable of the job - although I expect that after Kenny packs it in (with numbers 22 and 7 under his belt), it'll be Steve's turn. Sammy'll have a couple of years later on when he wins numbers 28 and 11. Shanks - Bob - Joe. Kenny - Steve- Sammy. And a shedload of dosh for Jocky sitting in a studio saying how wonderful it all is.
  5. 25. I forgot Murphy and got n'Gog. In disgrace. Oh well - back to work.
  6. For years, I've said that we can beat anyone, and we've shown it. The issue is consistency - I think we have achieved that now, and will continue like we are now into next season. I don't know what will happen - injuries, Mancini/Abramovich's next manager/Mr. Ferguson/ whoever really getting the right players in the market, Acts of God; but on current form, and taking into account the transformation of the club - 19-19 in terms of league wins by this time next year.
  7. City haven't put their wallet away in the last two years: they're fourth. Chelsea got theirs out (not that it had been away for long) in January and spent £50m on one player. Didn't work, did it? Money helps, but it doesn't guarantee success. You have to spend wisely. Buy players like Barnes and Beardsley. Sutton and Shearer. Suarez and Carroll.
  8. About 30 seconds of the match left, and he said all that AND still had time to win a penalty??? Respect.
  9. Thank you - we all appreciate the offer of your time and effort, but please don't bother. (#6 Liverpool 78-9 was better than 77-8. Look at the league, not just the knock-out tournaments. #9 Man Utd 68 - runners-up to City. Won European Cup, and finished 11th (ish) next year. First season of 26 without a title.) Best side ever is Liverpool's title-winning team of 2012.
  10. Kenny. All on the field were superb, but: Dirk Raul Johnson
  11. I sympathise with people who have dodgy user names. Particularly after Blackpool won 2-1 at our ground.
  12. Luis Suarez Liverpool's Number 7. Doesn't quite work.
  13. You mean he's selflessly gone there to stop the Mancs getting number 19? Nice one, Nando.
  14. Chelsea 0 Liverpool 1 (Torres o.g. 90)
  15. Dead easy. Short term solution - will be good for a couple of years. Who's going to drop down the ranks at Chelsea if Torres goes there? They can have Torres. We want £40m plus Nicolas Anelka. Give him an 18-month contact. Would he accept? Will he play is he stays with the chavs and Torres signs? And next week, if both Nando and Nico play, it doesn't matter which colour shirt each is wearing, on current form, I'd still back Anelka to score rather than Torres.
  16. We're not the Mancs. We sneered when they protested at Rooney's house. Treat Torres with the contempt he now deserves. Ignore him.
  17. Move on. Sell him. But who can we replace him with? In three days? Who's available? At times over the last few months, I've wondered whether getting Crouch or Keane back would be a short term solution. Then it just occurred to me: there is another ex-player who we should have kept, and it still upsets me to see in another club's shirt. He'd do a good job for the next 6 to 18 months. Play the dirty little chav shits at their own game. Sell him to them for £40 million. And Nicholas Anelka. Or no deal. And Nico can have his old shirt back. I remember he wouldn't sign for Everton a few years ago: he said he had too much respect for us. When Mad Ged let him go, in one of his first interviews he said how he wanted to stay with us. Maybe he actually felt more for us than Torres does. And on current form, I'd back him rather than Torres to score when we play at Stamford Bridge next week.
  18. Good point. I work as a programmer - nothing special, just one of a small department. I have to give notice of one month - it gives them time to look for a replacement, even if it takes two or three months to get one. We will realistically not get a replacement until June, and it will be 7 months from now before we can use that replacement. If anything, this affair (like the Owen one before) shows two things: one, the stupidity of the transfer window unless it is balanced by some sort of notice period, and two, that most footballers are little more than mercenaries.
  19. I understand and accept that players may want to move on. But the timing of this is disgusting, and even worse than Owen's in 2005. He at least gave us a couple of weeks remaining of the summer transfer window. Take £40m from Chelsea now. Let's not kid ourselves - right now, they are NOT our rivals. Our rivals are Sunderland, maybe Blackburn and Newcastle. That will eventually change under Kenny, but not yet. Get shot of Torres NOW. And get someone better than nGog by Monday evening - surely the club has one or two names in the frame. The behaviour of Torres now is exactly on the level of Owen when he left us. We need people who want to play for us. He doesn't. Let him go.
  20. Superb pictures - those were the the days. Would love to think we can have the same amount of success again, and that Kenny can knock Man Utd of their f***ing perches!
  21. Most likely 6th/7th, but if we start winning and keep winning, we CAN do it. I can remember 71-72 season. In early February we were 11th. Then we went on a tremendous run of about 9 or 10 wins in a row. We finished 3rd: behind Leeds on goal average, and 1 point behind champions Derby. Of course we can do it! (But Torres must rediscover his form, and Gerrard must stay fit and unbanned once he comes back.)
