  1. A truly fucking awful show. God I miss Father Ted, Black Books, The Fast Show....thank the fucking lord for DVDs; it means I can happily ignore the utter drivel that passes for comedy these days.
  2. Not OTT in the slightest. Spearing hasn't got the stature, the presence or the calmness that Lucas has. That position is the most difficult to fill in a lot of sides and it has taken Lucas three years to get to this point. Jay spent half the night on Monday chasing shadows. I could extend the same courtesy to Speo but I don't see what he has got that makes him a viable option as cover. Lucas is a regular for Brazil; Spearing has only just got his chance due to an injury to somebody else. He's 23 and hasn't established himself in the side? I like Jay, I really do. He has courage and heart in spades but I'm sorry he's not in the same bracket as Lucas. If he was, he'd have been in the side as a regular a long time ago and Lucas would be a memory. I don't want to go on about the gulf in ability too much because I would love to see Speo do well. But I don't think it can be as a regular in a side with European ambition. Just my opinion. I hope that Jay can prove me completely wrong over the next few months.
  3. Got to be honest here - the vacant hole left by hin tonight exposed the fact that, as the only destroyer we have in the squad, he is if not the most important player in the side, certainly one of them. Spearing tried hard and gives everything but Lucas is fifty times the player he is. Dempsey, and later Dembele, marauded all over the front of our back line, which meant that Agger and Skrtel had a lot of work to do; something which they've had protection from in the shape of Lucas in the last few months. We've played some lovely, slick and offensive minded football while Lucas has been in the side as well. He might not contribute to that side of the game in spades but having someone playing that role allows the creative mids to do something with the ball. Spearing sadly isn't good enough and will now be out for three games. Through no fault of his own like, it was a fucking shocking decision by the ref.
  4. I have never seen the appeal of Merchant, although I wouldn't say I disliked him. Gervais is a cunt however. Flanagan was mentioned earlier in this thread and I thought he was hilarious when I saw him at the Empire this year. Very, very funny. Bill Bailey was outstanding at the Echo as well. I'm quite happy with the standard of stand-ups at the moment to be honest, although there are some that need to just stop, like Andy Parsons and Chris Addison. Both great satirists, but they are no stand ups. The best I've seen live was either the aforementioned Bailey at the Echo, or the always brilliant Dara O'Briein at Apollo in London last year. But they have been around a few years, there isn't really a new one that I could say was outstanding. Kevin Bridges was very good though at the Lowry earlier this year.
  5. Totally agree on this. His vocals are absolutely unbelievable on this. This is one of my all time favourite songs, never mind just a favourite Queen track. Mercury was an outstanding front man, the very best ever in my book. Voice, presence, ability, charisma, the lot.
  6. The attacks on Suarez from commentary teams now is getting frankly ridiculous. The lad can't do anything right. When he got through and got clipped (clearly clipped, you didn't need the reply to confirm it) the commentator said "well, clearly Suarez blamed his miss on the fact that he wanted a penalty" or something like that. That was followed with "he should have gone down that time". So what I got from that was this: he is pilloried by Slur - and therefore everybody from commentators to the fucking tea lady - for diving. And yet when he remains on his feet despite a foul that would have seen a fellow professional sent off, they criticise him for staying on his feet?? Fucking bollocks. I'm made up he's pissing so many people off. He reminds me of Maradona (no, I'm not saying he's that good - not yet at least) in the sense that whilst others in the game hate him, his teammates and fans adore him. See the way the lads piled on top of him after that first goal? Was lovely to see.
  7. I always focused on stealth, agility and marksman. Made me deadly with a bow but fucking useless when a minotaur found me outside though. Not sure what approach to take with this one since the game randomly generates big arse dragons to beat the shit out of you. I'm thinking i'll need to be properly tooled up to deal with those bastards.
  8. I believe that the map for Skyrim is around the same size as that of Oblivion, give or take a bit. However there are over twenty designers for the environment as opposed to the handful for previous games. So more variation, more places to explore. Ace! There's three ten minute director's demos on the website that I thoroughly recommend to anybody looking forward to it.
  9. I read on the site that as far as levelling is concerned, once you visit a dungeon or mine or barrow (new to this one) the level of the enemy within is permanently fixed for the remainder of the game. Should make things a little different. There's also better interaction with the NPCs now; apparently they move around and stuff when talking to you rather than the whole game freezing when you speak to somebody. There's also more voices and characterisation in this one - rather than the twenty-odd "stock" voices and faces, there's something like 600. There are also randomly generated missions, and no fixed character "type", so instead of choosing a thief or archer or warrior specialisation, you develop into whatever you want based on your interactions with the game. So there seems like there's more freedom in this one than previous Bethesda titles. The more I write about this, the more excited I am getting. I have warned the missus that she may not see that much of me after the 11th of November. She didn't seem too bothered, actually.
  10. Anybody else looking forward to this? (Apologies if there is already a thread on this) I loved Oblivion but from what I have seen so far this one looks like it'll blow it completely away. Can't wait.
  11. I went to a Halloween one last year as Gandalf the Grey complete with a real, sharpened Glamdring (his sword from the books, for those who don't know) Got a lot of unwelcome attention from some but it came in handy when some fucking buffoon tried to spoil things by punching the hostess. I never ran him through with it though. It was a properly strange do now I think about it.
  12. I'm impressed with what I've heard so far. Love the Death of You and Me, think it's a belting tune.
  13. Aladdin - 10/10 Following on from watching the Lion King I thought I would give my all time favourite Disney film another watch. Absolutely outstanding. On a basic level it's got everything you want and expect from a Disney film; the hero, wacky sidekick, princess, camp baddie, wonderful animation, ace songs...and then there's Robin Williams as the Genie. Easily one of the finest characters in animated (and non animated?) film history. He was hilarious when I first saw this in 1994 (or whenever it was when it first came out) and even now he's just as funny. Outstanding film.
  14. Lion King 3D - 9/10 Back in the days when Disney BP (Before Pixar) could produce some absolute belters, they came up with this one and even all these years later it's still one of the best films they have ever done. They went to shit the year after this with that God awful Pocahontas so to me this represents Disney at the top. It's not as good as Aladdin in my own humble opinion but it's still outstanding. The animation, the songs, the characterisation...all near perfect. The 3D doesn't really add much, it's a little cheap gimmick that takes off one point, hence the 9/10. But it still doesn't detract from the overall brilliance of the film.
  15. The derby was just horrendous. The performance was bad, but that fucker's actions after the game towards Moyes and that "best performance of the season" shit was so fucking terrible that I couldn't believe my ears. Every press conference from the City game onwards was a joke - a joke where we were the punchline; an unwitting public laughing stock. I had the distinct displeasure of being in the Kop for the Wolves game and thinking "this man is dragging my club into the abyss and he doesn't give a good god damn about it". The man is a cunt and I hope he gets the bullet before he gets the chance to lead an opposition team out at Anfield again. King of the LMA indeed.
  16. Like shits that won't flush. An unfortunate ink blot on our club's history. I fucking hope they lose everything the pair of bellends.
  17. Think we'll smash them. I agree with the sentiment that we should have a right old go at them. Suarez, Kuyt, Carroll, Gerrard and Bellamy all have to start for me. Lucas needs more defensive help than Adam offers though, I'd plump for Gerrard alongside him, meaning a midfield three instead. Reina Kelly Skrtel Carragher Enrique Lucas Gerrard Bellamy Suarez Carroll Kuyt Quite an offensive minded side, but I would much rather have them worry about us; that way they might overlook the fact that Carragher is a little ropey at the minute and Skrtel is utterly shite. Let's fucking smash the cunts.
  18. Zzzzzzzzzzzz....wha..? This again?
  19. A complete and utter disgrace to the shirts they wore. That's my opinion on the shambles I witnessed today. Never had the distinct displeasure of being at the game but plenty were and the club should refund the travelling fans who forked out the money to see that horror show.
  20. Far point on the retiring bit; I never considered it from that angle. But I stand by my assessment of Haye's punching. Sure, he's not a one punch artist but very few in the division are these days. It most definitely is a more defensive sport now, far more so than in Tyson's heyday so it becomes unlikely that one punch would win a bout. Unless you're up against Fraudley, naturally. But Wlad still hasn't faced anybody who hits as hard as Haye. It may not be one punch but I still fancy Haye to give him a good going over.
  21. For the good of the division, Haye needs to win. I'm backing him, and I don't think it'll go the distance either. Haye might be the smaller but fuck almighty he's got a cannon of a right hand and to my knowledge Wlad hasn't come up against somebody who can hit as hard as Haye. I mean, look at the Valuev fight. Now, Valuev isn't exactly A grade boxing material but he's huge, and Haye rocked him good and proper with that right in the 12th of their fight. Wlad won't withstand a shot like that, should one get through. Having said that he's a great defensive boxer. Solid guard and methodical approach. Shame it's boring as fuck. Haye has the potential in every fight to be explosive and if he manages to bring that guard down he will tear into Wlad no question. So he's a bit of a dick outside the ring. All boxers are. But I like him and really want to see him give both brothers a hiding. Vitali would be a different kettle of fish though; Wlad is certainly the weaker of the two.
  22. It's a little harsh to say he condensed the trilogy; I think he did the best he could to be honest. He had to fight tooth and nail (not to mention pitch to at least three different studios) to get it made into three films from the Miramax orginal offer of condensing it into just one film. I wouldn't call The Hobbit 'tiny' either. Given that it's a children's book it's fairly weighty. I'm delighted personally that it's going to be two films. Couldn't care less if it's cynical by the companies involved. One of my all time favourite books being made into two films? Yes please.
