That was the week that was (Jan 9-13 2023)

Monday Jan 9:

Wout Weghorst is joining the mancs on loan. Easy to laugh at that but it’s not funny really as he’s a good player. He flopped at Burnley but he’s a goalscorer and will help United. Besides, we’re not really in a position to laugh at anyone right now. Except Everton, obviously.

Staying with Dutch strikers, former PSV boss Aad de Mos reckons Gakpo shouldn’t have come here. “Liverpool are trying to get back on track at the moment and it’s not a time for young players coming in, so I don’t know if the time is right to go to Liverpool now. Also, maybe Jurgen Klopp is leaving soon… “

I really want to lay into this fella and say he’s talking shite, but is he? We’re a mess right now. We will hopefully turn things around but can we say that with any degree of certainty? We’re proper shit at the moment and it’s a far cry from a year ago when Diaz came into a good side and lit the fuse to really send us into orbit. Gakpo could be like prime Denis Bergkamp and it isn’t going light a fuse under this team.

Meanwhile, there was a report today about how we nearly signed Gareth Bale back when he was at Southampton. I remember we were linked with him regularly back then but the story goes that Southampton wanted Darren Potter plus cash and we refused and said straight swap or no deal. Great job whoever that was. Great job.

Bale has retired now and I reckon he’s nailed on to show up at LIV Golf soon. They’re desperate to get attention but no more of the top golfers will join them so watch them go down the celebrity route. Probably some youtube knobheads and then names from other sports, like Bale. He basically retired after the 'Karius Final' anyway didn't he? Done nothing since. Some player before the injuries though.
