Liverpool dominate BBC 'end of season' awards

Liverpool stars have been rewarded for their fine 2019/20 season with acknowledgement by BBC Sport.

While the Reds still need another two victories to clinch their long awaited Premier League triumph, their season to date has been one of near total dominance dropping just five points through 29 games.

The BBC Sport website ran a poll to ask its who has been the best player of the 2019/20 season and captain Jordan Henderson got due recognition for his incredibly consistent season with topping the poll with 23%.

Sadio Mane came second with 17% and Man City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne third with 14%.

Teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold was a convincing winner of the young player of the year with 47% of the vote with Marcus Rashford (10%) and impressive Sheffield United goalkeeper Dean Henderson (9%) coming in a distant second and third position.

The manager of the year vote was also clear-cut with Jürgen Klopp with 55% of the vote ahead of Chris Wilder with 25%.

In terms of the Match of the Day team of the year which was once again a public vote, seven Reds players were selected.

Along with Henderson and Alexander-Arnold, other selections were Alisson, Andy Robertson Virgil Van Dijk, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.

The four non-Liverpool players selected were Man City duo Sergio Aguero and De Bruyne, Leicester central defender Caglar Soyuncu and quite farcically Bruno Fernandes.

The Man United midfielder was selected in the starting 11 despite only coming into the league in January and making a grand total of five appearances.

In comparison, the ever present, incredibly consistent and often overlooked presence of Gini Wijnaldum has made 28 league appearances and been a undeniable key factor in the success of the Reds during this campaign.

But that is the downside of making it a public vote where club allegiances and not clear analytical thinking comes to the fore.

Can't split Van Dijk and Mane. Henderson has had a strong year, but those two are comfortably ahead or him. I also think it's strange that he played better in 13/14 and didn't get half the plaudits he's getting now.

Sadio has had more great moments where he has been completely unplayable, but he's also had brief spells where he hasn't looked as sharp. Big Virg's form has been more consistent but he has also had brief moments where he's been sloppy and/or got caught out. Hendo hasn't had any real eye-catching moments but that's the nature of his game. What he has been thought is remarkably consistent, and more positive on the ball. I used to criticise him for hot-potatoing the ball and putting teammates under pressure, but he's been braver. Leadership-wise, Hendo has been outstanding on and off the pitch. We are hugely fortunate to have all 3, and they are surrounded by top quality and great personalities too.

Amazingly VVD and Robbo haven't been anywhere near as good as last season yet are still the best in their positions by a country mile.

Mane, Our Skipper, Trent . In that order.

Where the fuck is Joe Gomez

He's been 10x better than that Turkish grock at Leicester, overrated as fuck him.

Also Fernando's can fuck off, 5 games he's played. Amazing what tucking away a few penalties does
