PODCAST: Liverpool 1 Aston Villa 0 - Match Reaction

A hard fought but thoroughly well earned win at Anfield as the Reds ensured Steven Gerrard's much hyped homecoming wasn't a successful one.

Mo Salah won and converted a penalty to settle the contest but it was a decision that didn't best please Gerrard who also felt aggrieved at Villa being denied a spot kick of their own late on. Did he have a case?

TLW Editor Dave Usher is joined by Paul Natton and John Gallagher to discuss Gerrard's complaints, some fine individual performances from men in Red, a horrific refereeing display and much more.

RE: The Taffarel thing. My inkling is that it might be partially to do with Ali losing his dad. A father figure, someone he looks up to, from his home country? Just something that occurred to me.

Could be something in that yeah. Probably not even a conscious thing either.

Think that’s a great shout. And also we shouldn’t discount his sense of grief being a factor in his very minor wobbles this season.

Atwell's the nob who gave Brighton that last minute pen when welbeck made the most of his and Robbo's feet coming together at the same time?

As for Mo on that pen, reminded me of Zidane's concentration on that pen in the World Cup fina.. Just pure concentration to make sure it went in.

Switzerland V N Ireland, ref sends Jamal Lewis off for time wasting after 36 minutes. Again it's an English referee problem, not the laws. I read a stat that Nick Pope has been booked 5 times in his career, it should be 25 times per season if the laws are being applied properly.
