  1. A truly, truly great show. I was given a box set of the first few seasons by a mate for my birthday, and he encouraged me to stick with it through the first few episodes which I thought were a bit slow. I'm glad I did. As said elsewhere, TV is "where it's at" and Hollywood could only dream of fitting this level of suspense and character development into a 90-minute format. Warning! The following content is NOT WORK SAFE. Click the Show button to reveal. I'll admit to being a bit disappointed with the end though. Not because it wasn't well-crafted, well-directed, well-acted or appropriate. It was all of those things. But as rabble-rouser said above, the last two episodes seemed like a coda to the series and just (for me) went on too long. Once Hank died, there wasn't really anywhere else to go. It's a shame, but the overlong ending has sorta coloured my view of the show -which at one time had surpassed The Wire as my favourite ever. Anyone else interested in the "peak and end" theory of memory formation? But yeah. If you haven't seen it yet: do it.
  2. I was just thinking how good it must feel to be Brendan right now. Even doing mundane shit must be fun. I'm picturing him nipping down the shops to get a paper, pimprolling all the way, high-fiving the paps and flashing his teeth at the local totty. Everywhere he goes, people slapping him on the back. Meanwhile, Gollum is boarding up his windows and doors from the inside, trying to keep every speck of daylight out and muttering to himself...
  3. I wonder if you started queuing at the door how many knobheads would join in
  4. Ordered some flowers, job done. Been married too long to fall for that "it doesn't matter" schtick
  5. Was having a look at this. They are claiming that 29% of the entire populations of Vietnam, South Korea and Thailand are Utd fans. Not to mention 1 in 8 of all Russians. Desperate much?
  6. Yeah and wasn't it Rooney on his knees in their penalty area going proper mental too
  7. Can't believe it. Went out at 90+3 and came back to this. Hahahahaha. What a great weekend.
  8. Fair play to the gaffer. I know some people think he talks too much, but that's just the modern game - some cunt always sticking a microphone under your nose for the 24-hour media circus. I think he has a lot of gravitas, and I love hearing him talk about the club the way he does - respect the club, the fans, the traditions. Play for the shirt and each other and give your all. Sure, he's made mistakes but just look at the performances and some of the results he's given us so far. There's been so much to enjoy. I just hope the owners give him the financial support he needs to build a fucking empire.
  9. Was talking to an Irish guy I know who's a season ticket holder at OT. Spends a fortune going back and forth to the match, and was at Stoke on Sat. Says he's definitely not renewing his ticket due to the fact that they keep losing under Moyes and "it's no fun anymore". He's also not the only one. The wheels are coming off...
  10. Willian it was really nothing? I'll get me coat
  11. Anyone remember the Magic Rabbits in Brookside? It was a fake kids show but the adults used to watch it. Funny as fuck
  12. This. But especially when all the plot lines are trailed in advance in the tabloids and those shitty magazines women read, meaning there is literally no point watching.
  13. Agree about The Fall. I used to think that the only people who genuinely liked them musically were John Peel and Smith himself, everyone else just went along with it to appear cool. Emperors new clothes.
  14. It's good that the club in in decent shape financially, but... I don't know what FSG paid but surely the debts came off the purchase price anyway? I.e if the club values at say £1billion but has £300m debts, it's going to cost £700m to buy as the price gets discounted. Or am I missing something?
  15. I like that Kid Rock track with the Sweet Home Alabama sample
  16. United got one back. 3-1. Just enough consolation to keep Moyes in a job for while longer yet
  17. Anyone recall how The Ferrari F1 team changed the shade of red they had used on the cars since forever due to their Marlboro sponsorship? Just sayin' I voted yes but the This is Anfield sign has to stay
  18. Yeah why not. Take the suckers' money and run and we'll call it Anfield anyway. Sent from my ma's house.
  19. Off topic a bit, but I love that bit in Irvine Welsh's "Filth" (the book, haven't seen the film) where Robbo tortures his mate Bladesy's wife with a Frank Sidebottom voice. Ultimately he gets Bladesy fitted up for stalking his own wife then bangs her himself. Legend.
  20. I was with a group of Irish lads on a stag in Glasgow a few years back and we went to the Celtic match. Afterwards they took me to this Celtic pub which I swear had no name or sign. You went in through a long corridor with a bar at the end to a back room where there was a band playing rebel songs. It was rammed with people bouncing, really into it and shouting IRA slogans. As the only Englishman in the pub I drank two of the fastest pints of all time, never spoke to anyone and fucked off sharpish.
  21. I don't see why Gerrard can't be good in this position and he still has a lot to offer the team. I would offer a comparison with John Barnes, who adapted to being less mobile as he aged but still retained his class.
