  1. Not sure this transfer window is FSG 's fault. Thus far in their 5 full seasons, they have spent £40m net and even backed Kenny and Rodgers (last summer) when they didn't see them as their long term options. Think Klopp has a bit of Wenger about him as he only wants to sign players he can mould and develop - he doesn't even want to sign stars he has previously developed. Given this, maybe Jurgen has 3/ 4 players he wanted to sign, and was financially back to sign, but who weren't ready to come to us - Hector (maybe his wife is pregnant and doesn't want the move this summer), Coric (wants to help out Zagreb in the CL), Dahoud (another season needed in Germany/ his club won't let him go yet) etc. In keeping with his Wengeresque mentality, no doubt Klopp is ready to wait for these players, especially with his new 6 year contract. This is a good thing right and he / the owners shouldn't be slated for it. Of course the irony is if we get the new Chinese investment and have money to spend on established stars and like Arsenal, will have a manager reluctant to do so.. Do we sell our soul like United and go for the hated Mourinho for a bit of short term bought glory, or keep to a long term project. After all, it did take Shankly four and half years to make us into champions.
  2. Live the Welsh song "Give me hope Joe Allen, give me hope Joe Allen, until the morning comes" Can't believe we hadn't come up with that in 4 years. ..oh hang on.
  3. Quite amusing seeing all those Southern teds with their Lallana haircuts complaining. . " look, all we woz doing was having some banter with some North African types, some birds with nice tits, and then some innocent songs about the Germans, the Irish and Islam. Then some police come over and couldn't handle a few bottles lobbed from within yhe crowd. And then all these black shirted Russians came and actually hit us...that's right, they weren't playing the " arms out out wide fuck you " game, they cheated and actually hit us. Bang out of order that".
  4. I've been critical of Can before, comparing him to Paul Stewart, but boy did he look more like Souness the other night - a magnificent display from him and all the players. Sunday was weird because for the first time, we felt we were inferior to City. Wednesday restored the order. It might have been said before on here (and I've not been arsed reading it), but highlight of Sunday was post match, Barney Rubble trying to get into the Residents Bar at the Hilton....he was turned away which was a bad moment , so every red in there came out and ushered him in through the bouncers, almost carrying him the bar...it was probably better than Paris for Alan.
  5. For what it's worth JP, I think you're an excellent poster and should be commended for your bravery. I've been going to the match for 40 years and like the way you challenge the status quo. Not sure I like the abuse you get and anyone who questions your allegiance. For the record, and this shouldn't be so hard to grasp, Rodgers did an excellent job creating a near Championship team and might even have survived the Suarez sale had Surridge stayed fit - see Spurs away last August. As for Klopp, love the guy but he has been underwhelming so far in his ability to put out a team with any pattern or shape.
  6. maybe its just me then, but I think Joe Allen is great little player and should definitely start if we play with a midfield three
  7. not sure, it tends to have the beaked up lads from the Barnes' coaches but I'm always up for a good chat with a forumite
  8. well, I'll be in "The Counting House" from 6pm on Tuesday if you fancy a pint
  9. That's were Brendan went wrong - stopped believing in Joe - should be first name on the team sheet for how Jurgen wants to play... I may be a "queer " for thinking this, but Liverpool should play pass and move and not "chase the opposition down and have fuck all when we have possession" as per Stoke the other night. If Klopp wants us to play as incoherently and without control of the ball as the other night (the opposite of Van Gaal), then he's come to the wrong Club and should fuck off now. .
  10. Stoke away - -Allen gives the definitive Kloppite performance - press, press and press and then use the ball quickly and sensibly... And then drop him, until he scores the last minute goal against the Arse etc. At least Brendan knew what Liverpool were about and tried to impose a pass and move template on the team... Klopp appears to be about press and counter attack and not much else. Fine against City away but most teams come and defend against us. He would be wise trusting a pass and move player like Allen rather than headless chickens like Hendo, Can and Milner.
  11. Bollocks to you all - Benteke is ok.... Had a decent game tonight with some clever, deft touches...he's no Rushie whose going to get on intricate through ball but he'll bustle and do his best. Probably tells me about the modern day Liverpool fan and how ignorant and how (footballing) uneducated they are about Benteke,
  12. Stewart was excellent and looks a real prospect. Thought Allen was the best player on the park again and it worries me me that Klopp sees something in Can above Allen that Joe's not first choice. Jurgen, you may like heavy metal (aka Can) but Liverpool has always been about the more classic players ( ie Allen - the best midfielder at th Club by a country mile)
  13. http://www.theguardian.com/football/the-northerner/2016/jan/28/liverpool-everton-football-specials-british-rail-trains-1964-archive Great article in The Guardian on how the football specials were banned as far back as 64. Those 3.5 hour crawls to Sheffield would only be relieved by throwing lightbulbs at some poor sods in Manchester or Huddersfield stations and probably the best one ever was about 6 hours to Swansea in the Cup - emergency brakes pulled at New Street and Bristol to get fresh (stolen) supplies of booze before being met by the 400 jacks in their donkey jackets who met their wasp in a jar! Fond memories but wasn't surprised they got pulled in the mid 80s because of the sheer, bored wanton vandalism. And why was there always that half hour wait just before Lime street which meant missing last orders... These days the driver would at least announce over the tannoy that he was an Evertonian!
  14. Forgot what a great full back he is - he's got everything but most of all, an uncanny Positional sense
  15. 10 points Benteke has earnt us thus so far., leading goal scorer. Fuck me , he's not Luis Suarez with perpetual motion but he's a decent target man with a good touch, an awareness of team mates and a 1 in 2 scoring record. Klopp should get the Firminos and Lallanas to play off him... A bit like Brazil in 82 and France in 98... The striker becomes the foil.
  16. How about focussing on the 3rd goal- picking the ball up in our half, going round two players, committing four defenders before a perfectly weighted pass to Tex. or does that not fit into the narrative here?
  17. He actually is moving into space, away from the 3 defenders who are in the 6 yard box. And guess what, he scored 50 goals for Villa in 100 games doing this. He's also won us 10 points this season with his finishing, including our last two match winners. Those other recent misfits - Heskey, Crouch, Keane, Carroll, Balotelli etc never had this effect. Shame that most Liverpool fans, including on here, are too easily influenced by the pundit bandwagon to appreciate him. Klopp needs goals in the team and errrr, probably needs to start playing Benteke as his lightweight number 10s and grafting midfielders aren't going to get them. And BTW, what a first class attitude - smiling through it, never sulks, a team man - the anti Collymore. Fuck you all, Benteke is class and he's ours!
  18. That was a really brave and mature performance tonight...Kolo and Lucas stood up as leaders, the full backs were outstanding (tucking in as a unit), and Allen and Can both look made for a midfield 3 with them allowed to do the harrying and they seemed to have more time to use the ball better and quicker. Surprised Jurgen hasn't picked Allen more as he seems really suited to the pressing, short and sharp use of the ball type of high tempo game. Apart form the injuries, the one disappointment remains the lack of composure, final ball, and finishing of the front three with Firmino and Lallana panicking every time they got in a good position. Lallana's 29 this year and won't get any better but I still have hope for Firmino - it took the likes of Overmars and Pires 6 months to adjust to the English game. Overall though, well done Red men, this season has the feel of 04-05 about it, with a lot of poor displays mixed in with a lot of excitement and promise.
  19. yes, but Klopp should have done a better job with what he has inherited - a pretty poor start over 15 matches which has been papered over by 3 great away wins. He doesn't seem to know what his formation is, whether he trusts or wants the strikers, what's this pressing bollocks (didn't see much of it today), and players like Firmino, Lallana and Can look as far as away of being Liverpool players as when he took over. Of course we need to be patience and give him time to get his own set of players in place, but he ain't earnt it yet baby.
  20. looking forward to it. Hoping he plays Coutinho and Lallana off Origi with Milner and Hendo supporting the play either side of Lucas. Igalho is the striker most similar to Sturridge in his overall game, except he's got balls, a team ethic, and a desire to actually to play.
  21. yeah, but Mourinho is actually a "fast food" manager - can never develop a player, bring a young one through, and can never sustain a Club. He's good at understanding and nullifying other teams weaknesses and relying on his own couple of attacking players to be lethal on the break. Didn't Inter win the CL with 25% possession in 2010?
  22. I've been to 3 Everton euro aways in the past 8 years as moral support to a mate who lost his brother - Nuremburg, Lisbon, Lille - and I can categorically say its much better than following Liverpool away in Europe these days. Whereas we're too cool for skool, its just another city, don't mingle, don't talk to wools, been there done that, not as good as Bully etc, the Blue Noses are open, friendly, self effacing, and aren't up their own arses. Might upset a few on here but our euro support is shite (apart from the foreigners ironically who are still up for it, albeit in a cliche way)
  23. exactly, like Rodgers, Sturridge was made to look good because of Suarez...Danny hasn't shown us much since. Luis tolerated him despite his attitude/ frostiness - I've called him a "rat" on here before because of the Arsenal dalliance but if Luis can deal with egos like Neymar and Messi and make them look like schoolboys winning their first trophy together, then Danny was lucky to have him.
  24. fair enough N-T but you could see when he came how he would moan and sulk at Luis and they never had a natural connection - even in the 2013-14 run-in and the goals you talk about, it was their instinctive play but Danny's attitude always seemed to be brewing below the surface. During the 5-0 demolition of Swansea in 2012-13, he was a disgrace and there was one stage when he wouldn't walk over to Luis to congratulate him on a goal because he didn't pass. Its that Collymoresque behaviour which I'm referring to. Gerrard alluded to it even before his ill-thought book and said that he needs to get his head right. Don't think he has, hence the "injuries".
