  1. Was really good. Looked more like the Joe Allen i thought we'd signed, and did a great job of getting forward as like you say, he'd obviously been instructed to. Looked like the player i saw at the Olympics, where he worked well with Sturridge if i remember rightly.
  2. Not seen Arsenal play like that much. Loads of their passes went either out of play or just to the opposition. Schneiderlain had a good game for Soton i thought.
  3. I don't think it's utter böllocks. I think what the guy who the story originates from said, was that we could have bid for him if we wanted to, ie we had money there to bid for him. Not that we had bids accepted and it was a choice between the two players.
  4. It'd be good to hear what he had to say about all this, and i think it would give a much clearer picture if he did say something. Something tells me that he was more the one who identified players who fit in with FSGs ideas. It'd surprise me if he agreed to those fees being paid or had anything to do with negotiating them, but then again it's hard to be surprised with anything related to the clubs balls ups lately. In my mind it's like this: FSG - the ideas. Dalglish - identifying players. Comolli - negotiations. Could be massively wide of the mark though.... EDIT and maybe that's just how i hope it happened.
  5. However he dresses it up, they still spent that amount of money on those players. 4 player deal talk just shows how bad he was at his job. You judge the price of a player on their individual merits, not on how much you're getting for other players...
  6. I'd Benteke a draw. Actually no, it should be a win but i think if we don't score early it could easily be one of those frustrating home games.
  7. I think Carroll, Downing, Henderson, Adam, and the prices paid for them should be grounds for dismissal! I guess now we'll have to waste even more money. Wonder if we'll ever reach a point where we're not trying to deal with past problems? I bet Dalglish could claim unfair dismissal if he wanted to as well.
  8. Good podcast. The Allen incident was definitely no pen for me, but i think too many penalties get given for hand ball anyway when you consider what the rules say about it! Good to hear Mellor talking about agents, and some good points about Ince and Assaidi being discussed.
  9. I think he has the respect of most fans of the game. But respect from the press is another thing. They jump on him just as some of Arsenal's fans do every season when their league form dips. Though I reckon if he was at Real Madrid he'd last about a season too!
  10. It's ridiculous. Firstly that no one else was in for him. I sometimes wonder what scouts actually do. Do they spend all their time at u10s games in Wigan or something? And secondly that Rayo Vallecano sold him for such a little amount. I know they had financial problems at the time, but to accept such a low amount for a player with such a good return was stupid. Fair play to Swansea though. If it had been us who signed him even for double what they paid, i'd have thought we had a bargain.
  11. :D Would be made up if we signed him, so for that reason i can't see it happening.
  12. Some people think we can sign Cavani too. He's Uruguayan, Suarez is Uruguayan, erm, why wouldn't he want to come? I keep hearing Sturridge is first choice with Walcott as a backup if that falls through. Not sure i'd do it that way round, but i'd expect Chelsea to want too much for Sturridge.
  13. Yeah, like i say i do like them. Wilson's tactics book is one of my favourite books, and Cox's site is basically an online version of that, updated regularly. I think ITV get the balance right with those CL highlights shows. Presenter who knows a bit about football and is actually good at presenting, knowledgeable ex player, and a level headed football journalist. The less said about the BBCs football the better.
  14. Would that be like paying to listen to paint drying? :D Despite their dryness at times i do like them. But it's better when they're accompanied by someone a bit more light hearted like Richardson or some of the others they have on that Guardian football weekly podcast.
  15. Well mind games aren't difficult to do, but that doesn't mean he doesn't do it. It helps that the press walk on eggshells around him so he gets a free rein with these things. You won't hear them talking to him in the way they do with Mancini, or Di Matteo towards the end of his Chelsea time. He's not a genius, he's just good at getting little advantages anywhere he can and the gutter press sensationalise this as they do with anything else. He has to with the squad they have at the moment.
  16. Ah yeah that'll be that Toquero fella. Not the best player but has become something of a cult figure with the fans who admire his application and work rate. Maybe similar to how we were with Dirk. Although Kuyt was just frustrating to watch at times.
  17. Yeah, as much as i don't like certain journalists i'd much rather hear them talk about the game than some ex-footballer repeating cliches. There are exceptions to the ex-footballer thing though, many of whom have been mentioned in this thread.
  18. Thought Channel 5s was good last season for the Europa. Maybe they get the people who actually know what they're talking about rather than token football "celebrities". That Champions League highlights show with Strachan and Philippe Auclair is good too.
  19. Ian Ayre is probably yet to realise that he used to be our player. The talk of sell on fee's is probably confusing him no end.
  20. I think the owners owe the fans for these massive mistakes. They sacked the people responsible, but they were the ones who employed them in the first place and it's the fans that pay, both in the pocket and emotionally. I've not problem with FSG in the main, and i think they are one of the better bunch of owners around at the moment, but they need to come out with something good which will affect us positively on the pitch soon. I.e. money in January. There are good players available whose contracts are running down and might realistically want to join our club for a knock down fee. Huntelaar, Walcott, and Holtby would be a few examples. If they come out empty at the end of January saying that the right deals weren't available - you have to wonder what the right deal is for us these days. The cynic might think that the stadium "news" this season was just an attempt to pacifying the fans (a source of income) for a bit.
  21. Reina Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique Sahin Allen, Shelvey Gerrard, Suarez, Assaidi This will be the first game i won't be able to watch this season, so i'm expecting a trouble free, comfortable win. Southampton set up will though and will be difficult to beat if we take ages to score the first goal, or go behind. Allen is better as the middle midfielder, we know it, Brendan Rodgers keeps saying it, so just play him there then! Sahin is perfectly capable of getting a ball deep and initiating the attack. Maybe even more so than Allen.
  22. Look at them with their good players. Bastards. The sooner we sell Downing and Henderson, the sooner my blood pressure comes down. They're not just average, they're expensively average.
