  1. That one is worth a listen: the "chosen people" quote isn't his belief, but part of his 2015 critique of attitudes amongst Israelis.
  2. I wanted a red-card-filled 0-0 draw. They're both in the chase for top four, a point dropped is a point dropped.
  3. Thanks for the reminder. It'd been so long since I read it all I recalled was that it was right up there with "The Stand". And it is. cheers
  4. In honour of Kissinger's passing: "The Killing Fields" Story of the relationship between two journalists set in war-torn 1970s Cambodia. It's a fantastic film. 10/10
  5. The Tosh character, at least in the first couple, seemed shoe-horned in for comedic affect. Very jarring to me. Binned it--I didn't really care about whodunnit, or any of the characters.
  6. A long article by an Israeli newsmagazine, +972, detailing how relaxed bombing rules and the use of AI has led to Israel killing so many innocent men, women and children. And an article by the NYT claiming that Israel was aware a year ago of Hamas's intention to carry out an attack, but discounted the possibility of it happening. This is probably behind a paywall, but it's too long to post here. Hopefully the details will be in other publications soon (if they aren't out there already).
  7. You set up a group who get paid to innovate, they're going to innovate. Even if the innovation is detrimental. Not just sport, everything. Over-designed, overly-complex, does a hundred things poorly instead of the two or three required adequately. ('ll stop there, as I'm starting to feel a bit like Abe Simpson.)
  8. I was going to post: "no matter what they do in January, they'll still be relying on Onana" this morning, but didn't want to jinx it. Good decision.
  9. Your foreign secretary is on hiatus from his job as a lobbyist for China.
  10. Keith Hackett, former general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), the English referees' body, told the Daily Telegraph that Uefa did not implement this recommendation for its own competitions. "Last April, in their guidelines for the upcoming season, the Uefa board recommended that there should be clarity that no handball offence should be called on a player if the ball is previously deflected from their own body," Hackett said. "But this recommendation was not implemented - and Newcastle paid the price at the Parc des Princes."
  11. Any team that sends out Anthony Gordon every week can't complain about dodgy calls. Fuck 'em.
  12. Untreated diseases could kill more than bombings in Gaza, WHO warns Diarrhoea and respiratory infections are widespread among children in overcrowded UN facilities where almost 1.1 million people are sheltering. Patients with chronic illnesses like cancer are also receiving no treatment. The UN estimates that more than 1.8 million people in Gaza have fled their homes over the past seven weeks. About 60% of them are sheltering in 156 facilities belonging to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, Unrwa. WHO spokeswoman Dr Margaret Harris told a news conference in Geneva that an assessment of those shelters had found outbreaks of infectious diseases, with cases of diarrhoea among children aged five and older more than 100 times normal levels by early November. No treatment is available for them, she said, without which infants in particular can deteriorate and die very quickly.
  13. So what happens when the temporary cease-fire ends? Israel intends to destroy Hamas; presumably many of it's members fled south during the intial bombardments to add to those already located there. So will Israel proceed to destroy southern Gaza as well? And where will the people forced from north to south, as well as those already living in the south, go? Back to/into the rubble of the north? How many more innocent men, women and children will Israel kill?
  14. James Franco--can't act for shit. Seth Rogan--ditto, even worse. He's Canadian, grew up in my city, Vancouver, and he's genuinely funny off the cuff, but he can't act, at all.
  15. Israeli forces have killed eight Palestinians, including a child, in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, taking the total number of Palestinians killed in the West Bank to 239 since October 7. Aljazeera
