  1. The Lions need to iron out their problems on the training pitch this week. I've never rated Hibbard as a hooker, and his throws when he came on were just dire. The scrum buckled without Jones, once again. I don't get the idea of subbing him around the 60 minute mark, when he's clearly the best No 3 in the world. Lydiate being on the pitch, allowed Warburton to play his more natural game, and he was very impressive, just a real shame that he is now ruled out of the 3rd test. At least Stuart Barnes will now be happy, the annoying twat. Davies isn't a natural inside centre, which has meant that the 12 -13 partnership hasn't really worked. If Roberts is fit, then he has to play and I'd also bring back Cuthbert. Bowe, as good a player as he is, just looked way off the pace. The biggest question is who to play at 9. On his day, Phillips is probably the better of the 3 on tour, but he has lacked something on tour, and this is going to be a massive game, although Youngs did play well. Some tough decisions to make.
  2. I fully support your comments, PE were just incredible. I had some bloke on Twitter last night, "Now THIS is proper music" as Mumford and Sons entered the stage.....if he didn't make such decent cider, I'd unfollow the gimp.
  3. I've been watching Storage Wars and Pawn Stars for a while now, and both are just easy going programmes to watch. The stuff with Hester and Darryl made it worth watching, but the new series in the states isn't going down to well apparently as most of the characters have gone or been left out, etc. Storage Hunters is quite good though, does anybody else watch Storage Wars Texas, Duck Dynasty, Counting Cars or American Restoration?
  4. What a great match it was, full of incident, near misses, dodgy ref decisions, edge of the seat stuff. The scrum definitely suffered when the replacements were made, as they didn't seem to have the edge any more. I was surprised that Jones got taken off so early, as he is immense. O'Connell will now become a big miss, but Parling has been impressive on tour so far. The back row just didn't work for me at all. As well as Croft did in the line out, he didn't seem to do much around the fringes. I'd bring in Tipuric myself as he's quicker around the pitch and would help target Genia. I think Gatland should tell Philips to stop with the box kicks, as they were bloody dreadful, and he did look cumbersome but his physicality is important. Sexton did ok, but did seem to pull out of a few tackles, which needs to be rectified. I don't think the BOB and Davies partnership worked, as both are too similar. Roberts, if fit, will get his place back. The back 3 did well enough, Cuthbert looked a bit heavy legged, but took his try well, and I don't think we can say anything more about North and Halfpenny, as they did their jobs. With all the injuries the Aussies now have, then the 2nd test should be another interesting game, but I think the lions will edge it by about 10 points.
  5. Heaslip wouldn't have been my choice either as I've been more impressed with O'Brien on the tour. If the Lions can win the first one, then it gives them the momentum to carry into the next 2 tests and get some of the injured players back. Risky though only having Lydiate on the bench. I can see what you mean about Warburton, but he was always guaranteed to start as soon as he was announced tour captain, as Gatland knows him very well.
  6. I agree, its just looks a very odd combination. As many have suggested, too many names were already on the team sheet before the tour started, some good and some bad, but like most, I'm genuinely shocked that neither Tipuric or SOB make the squad. As good as Lydiate is, and I think he's a brilliant player, he doesn't deserve his place on the bench. I think that Davies fully deserves his place, but he's only there because of the injury to Roberts. Lets hope that it all works on Saturday morning.
  7. Manchester Cider and Perry Festival this Friday and Saturday at The Palace Hotel on Oxford Street, with 52 ciders and 14 perries, what an absolute treat this will be.
  8. Dropped into The Inn Beer Emporium on Renshaw St yesterday after working at Liverpool Uni, had a few pints of Furstenberg. Plenty of choice in the bar of German and Belgian beers, worth a visit.
  9. I've recently just bought a Mazda 6, 1.8 petrol. Drives really well and handles corners like a dream.
  10. Did anyone see the winners from last nights Kerrang Awards? What a bloody joke that magazine has become over the years. Fall out Boy, Biffy Clyro, Black Veil Brides!!!! Big pile of shite.
  11. Slayer will always be Slayer, and I saw their last 2 appearances without Jeff when Gary Holt was playing, and he was superb. Was Paul Bostoph on drums? Great drummer, but not in Lombardo's league. Slayer won't be the same again for me.
  12. I avoid The Printworks as the pubs are usually full of idiots, no offence to you Captain. Another excellent one is the Microbar inside the Arndale Centre.
  13. Only one place to go Port St Brewhouse. Bit pricey, but it has a brilliant selection of beers. Port Street Beer House | Northern Quarter beer house, pub, drinking holePort Street Beer House | Northern Quarter beer house, pub, drinking hole
  14. I've got it on Sky+ to watch later this week, after I've finished watching Arne Dahl.
  15. Did anyone else want to put their fist through the TV and grab hold of Stuart Barnes and tell him to shut the fuck up. He just seemed to criticise everything that a Welshman did. He conveniently forgot to add that Youngs missed a tackle when the Reds scored a try, passing the blame on Cuthbert and Warburton, then the best part was when the Lions had a 5 metre attacking scrum, and he said, "we have Youngs, Parling and Youngs, all Leicester men, and they know what to do in these situations" they promptly lost the scrum, what a dickhead he is. The match was a good workout, I was impressed with Gray and Vunipola, but Farrell needs to be kicked into touch. He just isn't that good and the Aussies will have a field day with him if he starts the tests. I agree with others that Warburton looked rusty, but it was his first game for some time and he'll get stronger. A real shame for both Jenkins and Healy though, and Bowe would be a big loss, but I don't get why everyone seems to have a downer on Cuthbert. The lad can finish, well, usually, so I'd be surprised if he isn't the other starter in the tests if Bowe isn't fit, although I'm a fan of Zebo.
  16. The Office - or pretty much anything with Ricky Gervais in it.
  17. He claims that he's over the homesickness thing now.
  18. I'd be amazed if Halfpenny wasn't the test match kicker, as he's been amazingly accurate for the last 18 - 24 months. As you say, it then takes more pressure of Sexton, and he can run the show from 10.
  19. We thought the same thing on Monday, some quizzical looks from the crowd. Great night though. I got to ask him "which song or riff did he wish he'd written", which got him a bit flustered, with lots of "fuck man, that's impossible", but he went for ACDC "Riff-Raff"
  20. This was always going to be the issue with whoever he selected as captain, as it almost guarantees them, barring injury, a test place. The back row selection for the tests is going to be mouth watering though, as the talent at Gatland's disposal is of an incredibly high standard, with so many different possibilities.
  21. Went to see Scott Ian from Anthrax last night in Manchester doing his Speaking Words tour. Very entertaining night, 2 hour set, with an extra hour of Q&A.
  22. Only got to see the highlights last night, but it was a good workout for those on the pitch. Lydiate impressed, considering he's been out for much of the season. O'Connell and Wyn Jones are still the best lock pairing, but there were signs already at this early stage of players looking to cement a test place early. Looking forward to Wednesday's match now.
  23. I got into American Dad a few months back, and really enjoy it, Roger is a very funny character and the american family values are ripped apart. BBC3 have been showing it from series 1, so I've enjoyed watching it from the beginning. FoxHD is on series 8 I think.
