  1. A few years ago people were moaning that Rafa wasn't hard enough and that he should attack Mourinho and Fergie and now people are moaning that he shouldn't attack too much. The guy can't win.
  2. Kuyt can play in a few positions, always gives 100%, never stops trying and is an example to many on what it means to play for this club. He is a good player and a good person to have in their sqaud. He wouldn't be in my first team if everyone is fit but he would always be in my match day squad and is definitely not as bad as people are making out.
  3. What would stop a manager buying all his "mates" ala Terry Venables or to a lesser extent Houllier and then lumbering the club with dead beats on large contracts long after he has left? What would stop a manager buying the likes of Bowyer and Barton and tarnishing the image of the club?
  4. It would be going a little too far to give a manager 100% control of the transfers and the academy. And only a fool would say that Rafa shouldn't have all control of the first team. I think the situation is simple - no player should bought into the club or sold by the club without the recommendation of the manager. On the other side, the realities of players age/re-sale value, background (e.g. Lee Bowyer) and squad size should be finalised by the board as they impact on the image and financial realities of any club. The truth always lies somewhere in the middle.
  5. He will have good games and his supporters will be in forums slamming those that hate him. If he has a bad game then it will be a bit of a free for all for the rest. The same can be said of Dirk Kuyt and the same happens with Rafa and its tedious. It's weird that people get angry with other people's posts and views rather than just replying to it or ignoring it. These are footballing views and in the grand scheme of life it isn't worth arguing about. Not everyone supports the club the same, some live it 24/7 and others are passive. Neither is a crime.
  6. Keane has been the most prolific striker in the league these past 5 years, I think that should have earnt him some trust. I totally trust Rafa in that he might think that Kuyt allows others to play better than Keane does but the debate about Kuyt and Keane with regards to who is the better striker in this league is a non story.
  7. The 0-0 thing is a good point, we have played 21 games and five have been 0-0 - mainly against pretty useless teams. But that is better than losing, those 5 points could well be the difference in a very tight race this season. It depends how you see your glass half filled with water.
  8. Yeah he did. BBC SPORT | Olympics | Football | Messi scores in Argentina victory
  9. Fans need to take Rafa as he is or shout for a new man. He is what he is, a tactical manager who doesn't like to lose. A master in Europe and known to be able to win league titles without superstars. What some people are saying is Rafa would be great if he was this or if he was that - they want him to change and that won't happen any time soon.
  10. That would be asking Rafa to change as a person, and change his philosophy as a coach and that won't happen. You either accept him for what he is or you don't. Asking him to do this or that and then fuming about it afterwards if he doesn't is probably not the best way to keep your heart healthy. If there is no trust then you won't just magic it up by asking someone to change.
  11. That's akin to saying "I don't trust my bird but I don't want to dump her". You just know it will end in tears and both parties are on a hiding to nothing. If you don't trust Rafa then you probably want a new manager but have held back a bit because we are top of the league. No harm in that though as it shows you are happy to put aside your issues for the good of the club. But in the long term, it's an untenable situation.
  12. You either trust the manager or you don't and if you do then you would happily give him a new contract now. If you don't then you should want him sacked now because you will only look for a new excuse in the summer. It's prudent though to wait until the end of the season, to avoid distraction and also be in a better position to judge how much money Rafa is actually worth. It can worth both ways as if Rafa wins the league he can demand whatever he likes, and if he fails to mount a challenge the club can offer less.
  13. United and Chelsea will drop points, the biggest enemies for us is ourselves. We keep dropping points against some really crap teams, once we get over that we will be well on our way. United also have to play us and they won't be looking forward to that.
  14. Do you say the same things when we play and do the same thing against some big clubs? I celebrate those draws and wins when we do it, I don't say "fuck me Rafa should have played a bit of football". Also, there are many out there who are critical of our football "style" too. Having a go at Stoke is out of order and sour grapes.
  15. We didn't concede, he did his job end of story really. If you want to find scapegoats maybe look at the attacking players?
  16. What do you expect for a team assembled for about £10m, you want them to do toe to toe with us? This kind of attitude is a slap in the face for small teams trying their best against the big boys. It was up to us to break them down and hand their arses to them. The fact that they didn't let us is a slight on us not them. If I was a Stoke fan I'd not be fuming at all, quite the opposite.
  17. That's not their job really. Bould, Adams, Winterburn and Keown didn't stop Wenger's team playing well did they? Our defenders are there to defend, it's in midfield and attack where we struggle for a cutting edge.
  18. He isn't a bad player at all and I don't get all the hate in here for Lucas. We didn't have the movement or the quality in attack to help someone like Lucas as he needs options. There were others on the pitch far worse than Lucas yesterday starting with the undroppable Kuyt.
  19. We played more attacking under Sammie Lee *dives for cover*!
  20. This isn't fair, we have played fantastic football for the past 3 weeks.
  21. The pill would be easier to swallow had we had our best players on the pitch, rather we had £40m worth of strikers on the bench today. I bet Stoke would have been lifted by the team sheet at 5pm today. Whiskey nose will be chuckling tonight.
  22. Very disappointing and after such a prolonged rest did the likes of Keane need to be dropped/rested etc? Poor team selection today did for us, Stoke were never going to lie down like Newcastle did.
  23. You can't disagree with much of that, him and Robbie were brilliant together scoring 58 combined in one season alone.
  24. Masterstroke by Rafa I think. Win tomorrow and United defeat against the Chavs will prove it.
