  1. It seems Houllier has had to be given the dreaded vote of confidence from the board at Villa even before he has been appointed to the job. It appears his reputation as a coniving, manipulative manager who plays favourites, makes bad purchases and produces boring football, has preceded him. How pathetic for a club to have to beg fans to give an incoming manager a chance! Aston Villa director asks fans to get behind Gerard Houllier - Barclays Premier League - ESPN Soccernet
  2. I admired him for not sucking up to the players. Gerrard is not a very nice character in real life but Rafa went out of his way to support him when he was hauled before the court for one of his many bar room brawls that actually came to the attention of a prosecutor. Gerrard has been inconsistent for every manager he has played for and is always trying to dictate where he should play. Rafa got more out of him than any other manager. Rafa converted Carragher to a central defender and selected him more than any other player, yet Carragher paid him back by politicking against him for years while maintaining a sycophantic relationship with Houllier. Why should Rafa suck up to a traitor? Torres has said many times that Rafa is the best manager he has worked with and that he taught him so much. All without sucking up. Mascherano, Kuyt and even Alonso have spoken highly of Rafa, as have many other players. Carragher and Gerrard put the knife in only because they knew Rafa was vulnerable to the owners and their agent, Purslow. In my book, this makes Carragher and Gerrard the owners agents. Carrragher thought he would secure a contract for his dirty work, Gerrard followed him because he is an easily led sulk who wanted to shift attention from his own lousy performances last year and blame the team's downfall on Rafa.
  3. If Houllier becomes manager of Aston Villa hopefully he will persuade Carragher to go with him so the two mutually masturbating Rafa-haters can get their fill of each other. It wouldn't shut up "look-at-me" Carragher and we would still be constantly regaled by his vacuous opinions on everything and everybody but at least we would be spared the embarrassment of him being an LFC player.
  4. More double standards from TLW. Its open house on the private life of Wayne Rooney, but nary a word can be said about the long history of colourful events in the life of Steve Gerrard - only some of which reach the press and the courts.
  5. Its more like der bunker in Berlin. They feel that deep underground, they can put their hands over their ears and never have to answer for their lies about Rafa.
  6. Alternatively, you are a sneering git, as my mother would say, striving to pass yourself off on a poky football forum as a raconteur.
  7. I agree with most things you said but not that. Gerrard is not going anywhere. He has his nose too deep in the LFC trough. Who else would pay him the wages and perks he gets at LFC, spoil him, humour him and make him captain to boot? His sulks, bolshy attitude and poor performances should have been punished last year by regular benching and a few games with the reserves. Rafa should never have persuaded him to stay in 2004 but should have let him go to Chelsea. Failing that he should never have confirmed him as captain but given it back to Hyppia. Hodgson also missed the opportunity to give the captaincy to someone more deserving - but Hodgson is a patsy. Gerrard loves all the media stuff about "he deserves better" and "will he or won't he leave". But the only way he would leave is if the club could not afford his wages.
  8. Your'e wrong as usual. Several journalist including all those you listed have mentioned how prickly Hodgson has been in some press conferences. Mascherano was arguably one of the best players last year - after his first month back from international duty - consistently outshining Gerrard and Carragher, for example, even though he had asked for a transfer to Barcelona and was not happy in Liverpool. Hodgson has been shifty and weak in this process concerning Mascherano and Kuyt. He has lied about Inter and Rafa. He has played on what he thinks are press and public prejudices to cast aspersions on players. Insinua, Aquilani, Lucas, Babel and some of the younger players have all been damaged by his garrulous tongue and fumbling hands.
  9. Purslow, Carragher and Gerrard were the three self-appointed spokesmen who talked a lot to the press about "the new buzz" around the squad, the "smiling faces", the "relaxed atmosphere at Melwood" and the fact that players now seemed "happy to train". It may not have been a coordinated press campaign but those three happen to have been the most active in trying to undermine Rafa. They probably thought it was in their interest to prove that their shoddy campaign had been right. What a contrast with the actual dire performances of the team, the departures of players and Carragher's snarling at Kuyt, so early in the season, as well as Gerrard's usual uncertain form and sulks on the field.
  10. As is his yelling out our players. Apart from the ugly spectacle it makes it also falsely suggests that he is better, more knowledgeable or more of a LFC custodian than they. His screaming at Kuyt after the final whistle, off the pitch but in full view of the cameras and public, should be met with a heavy club fine and suspension. We all know what his snarling at Arbelo led to.
  11. You're right, there 's no proof that Masch refused to play. Hodgson talks a lot, spins a lot, plays politics with the media a lot but on more than one occasion his deliberatley ambiguous comments have proven to be misleading. His comments about Masch were that he did not know where he was and that he was not in the right frame of mind to play. That could mean several things, none of them being that Masch had refused to play. Hodgson misrepresented the Masch to Barca situation and the Kuyt to Inter situation. He also misrepresented his conversations with Moratti of Inter. He said he had received guarantees that Inter would not be trying to sign LFC players. When Inter proved him a liar a few days later by submitting a written offer for Masch he tried to wriggle out of it by belittling the offer - not even replying to it. He tried to shift attention from himself by spouting off about Rafa's contract, making unfounded accusations of bad faith on Rafa's part. Hodgson is a flapper. And the sad truth is its got nothing to do with him . Purslow is the organ grinder and Hodgson is his monkey.
  12. In the matter of the Inter for Kuyt matter I think Hodgson has been very weak and petty. First he claims publicly he has called Moratti reminding the world, in that pathetic way of his, that he, too, used to be a manager at Inter. He also wanted to show he could go over Rafa's head - even though by so doing he only reinforced the fact that at Inter the manager is not in charge of transfers. But neither is the President. So even if the President gave him the assurances he said he got - which I very much much doubt - Inter as a club would do things in their usual, well managed way. I believe the most Moratti would have said was that they would not make any illegal approach to any player - would not talk to a player without getting LFC's permission. Hodgson was still not satisfied with his little ego-boosting sally into the press he had to return with the insinuation that Rafa was acting illegally. First, Hodgson reveals that Rafa had agreed not to "poach" players. The term's of Rafa's release from LFC are not Hodgson's or the public's business. And the word "poach" is loaded. His statement was also inaccurate. And his entire insinuation about Rafa's supposed dealing with the agent was based on his "suspicions" which he does not support with any evidence. Now Inter speaks out officially and the player they want is Masch and they have made a formal approach to LFC before speaking to the player, contrary to Hodgson flanneling.

  14. As creepy as he is, imagine how much more creepy are those players who want his arm around their shoulder and who allow him to turn theri heads with such crass flattery. Can't they see its a technique he uses on everyone and they - like he - are not special at all?
  15. You're nuts and so is ATK. A year ago I suggested that ATK's fascination with money and gossip and his potty conspiracy theories about Rafa, not to mention his downright lies about him, made him a perfect co-author for Fatty Oldham and his non-book Anfield Exposed. It doesn't surprise me that he's now pushing a non-book with the same theme. If he starts asking for 5 pound deposits - watch out! In fact I would welcome ATK and his looney cronies putting their stuff about Rafa into hard print. It would be so much easier to sue them.
  16. Bascombe was justified in mentioning what he had heard about PIK loans. But the RBS refused to confirm that there are any. They did this because they have a fiduciary duty to their clients not to reveal their private banking arrangements. If there are PIK loans they are with Gillet and Hicks not with the club. Therefore, Bascombe misunderstood the significance of what he had been told and skewed the story incorrectly in a newspaper with 4 million readership just as he skews at lot of his so-called facts. His whole point was that the debt on the club was growing exponentially at the rate of 2.5 million a week. As he often does, he tried to reinforce his wrong-headed interpretation by recruiting ATK (and others at TLW). They were also wrong, although, to be fair, David U did notice that even if Bascombe had been right about the loans being the club's loans, his calculations of the amount owing under PIK was wrong. Nobody has confirmed any version of this story. But many informed people on RAWK and other forums have pointed out that if such loans exist they are just as likely to be a penalty forced on G&H to make them cooperate with the sales process. If that is true, then RBS may decide to forgoe these penalties to close a deal. However, banks don't give up claims so easily and it may be that Broughton was trying to get Huang and others to clean up after Gillet and Hicks - take care of all their personal borrowings and penalties. If so, that could be a reason Huang demanded a quick resolution and drew a line in the sand.
  17. Good news for TLW Free Forum users! Rafa Benitez just won his second piece of silverware of the season today. The Italian Super Cup. Inter 3-Roma 1. Riise opened the scoring for Roma. Mourinho didn't win this cup in his time there. Rafa said ""It was them (the players) who won it, along with the club and the fans. Well done to my boys for their reaction" Last week Rafa won the less important TIM Trophy with victories against Juventus and Athletico Madrid using under 18 years olds in the second of those two 45 minute matches. Next week its the European Super Cup and later in the year the World Super Cup.
  18. Jeffries bid was far messier than Huang's. He said that Kraft was involved in the L4 group when he wasn't. And his PR campaign was conducted through Kraptalk and Oldham. Recently he decided to poke his nose into the current process and had a testy exchange of emails with Purslow after trying to flatter him by congratulating him for sacking Rafa. He then discovered, some 5 or 6 years later, that being associated with Kraptalk aint good for business and credibility. So he dumped KT recently - or the other way around if you believe Oldham. . Purslow once summarised all the so-called bidders at the time of the G&H takover and remarked that L4 had no money. Jeffries is in no position to lecture Huang.
  19. They were not swept under the carpet. You, for one, spent thousands of words broadcasting them on this and other forums. The Bascombe stories were disregarded by most because they were wrong. His story about the 2.5 million a week added to the club debt was wrong. You are wrong to keep citing it as a revelation. His story about the board preventing G&H from re-financing was wrong. Bascombe not only just reproduces stuff handed to him by people with an agenda - he does not understand what he has been handed. He gets it wrong. His willingness to make himself a tool for his source is nicely epitomised in his opinion that supporters should "cut them some slack".
  20. Is this based on the Koptalk Gold Forum where the VIP's get to look down on the Silver Forum and Free Forum? Or is it based on der bunker in Berlin where the inner circle gathered to preserve the last vestages of their ideolgocial purity? If the latter I'd like to congratulate anyone who helped drive the TLW Bascomites and Anti-Rafa Mutual Support Group into der bunker.
  21. Purslow said on Sunday that no bidder was leading. He also said that none had given proof of funds. If that's the case there is no shy and retiring bidder waiting to take over as you suggest. But Purslow is a dissembler so what he says is unreliable. In any case, Huang has said that he had supplied all the documentation asked of him, including proof of funds, some time ago and some journalists and other informed observers say that independent sources support that claim. Tony Evans may be an emotive LFC supporter - he admits as much - but he was spot on a couple of days ago when he said Huang might withdraw. He gets lambasted on here by the TLW Bascomidian Rafa-Haters Support Group because he had the temerity to get a fascinating and exclusive interview with Rafa and spread it over several days.
  22. Huang has done the right thing. I never believed Brougton's claims to be the decisive voice in the matter. I also believe that when he conceded in his last interview that "equity participation" might be an acceptable option that he had already shifted his original focus from an outright sale. I also recall in one of his first interviews that he lost some facial control when he unwillingly admitted under questioning that the RBS would give enough time to complete the deal without pressure and when asked if that would be about twelve months said, "yes something like that...whatever is necessary". After Purslow spoke on Sunday it was clear that he and Broughton were playing games with the process as advertised to bidders and supporters and that the two of them had no intention of making good Broughton's much repeated promises that it would move forward expeditiously with the end of August as a goal for conclusion. Huang was right to formally withdraw. If he does come back to the table later he will not be bound by the offer he lodged - he can now make a lower offer. If not, one of the other options he may want to consider is buying into another PL team. I think Huang found a chink in Broughton's armour.
