  1. However much he's worth we won't see all of it if we sell. Reports suggest QPR negotiated a sell on clause between 20-25% when we bought him.
  2. What Alonso money? The money that went on interest payments? We paid for Aquilani in installments. Every time an installment was due, we sold another player. The Yanks bled the club, it's not rocket science.
  3. There is a frankly astonishing article in the Sunday Times today by Rod Liddle, which says Terry's is the victim of a media witch-hunt.
  4. Johnson's price was determined by the interest in him from club's with shitloads of cash (Citeh and Chelsea), otherwise we might have got him for less.
  5. adidas Leisure Red Track Top-Leisure - LFC Official Online Store £35. Minus the current 20% off, makes it £28 (then add £5 for delivery).
  6. I wonder if Utd spent any money on players between finishing behind us in 2001/02, and Rafa's arrival in 2004/05? Oh yeah, they spent about £110m (around £60m net) on players including Rio Ferdinand £27,550,000 Cristiano Ronaldo £12,200,000 Wayne Rooney £27,000,000
  7. Jimmy Rice's (one of the offal's journos) has just posted on his twitter feed
  8. You mean like Harry Redknapp at Spurs, who came in after the window shut with Spurs at the bottom of the table with 2 points from 8 games, and went on a great run picking up 16 points from their next 8 games

    Aquilani

I think it's more likely that we needed the majority of the Alonso money to pay off the debt, and therefore would only afford a small initial outlay on his replacement. This made the upfront 5m euros for Aquilani very appealing. It's surely no coincidence that when the next installment of 3m euros was due in January, we offloaded both Dossena and Voroning for fees totalling £6.5m and only brought in a free transfer in Rodriguez (presumably any remainder going to pay for his wages) When the next payment of 7m euros came due in June, we got shut of Benayoun for £6m. It seems apparent to me that we've living hand to mouth.
  10. It shows agents / others clubs (and our own players) that we won't take any shit when it comes to contracted players. They either pay the fee we want, or the player stays and honours the contract they signed.
  11. The site is gone, replaced by random text My avast is also suggested some malware is present
  12. The idea selling 16 squad players is nonsense anyway. If no-one wants to buy them, they get to sit on their contract and watch their salary roll in. Similarly if they don't agree terms with anyone willing to buy them, they get to sit on their contract and watch their salary roll in It's not like we haven't been trying to dispose of squad players, its that the bids (if any) coming in have not been deemed suitable to both the club and player in question.

  14. It not Rafa leaving that is catastrophic, it's what it indicates. As has been outlined already the only positive possibility is that new owners are lined up ready to inject funds, but don't want Benitez. The alternative is that there is no money, the club would give no assurances about marquee player sales, and Rafa didn't want any part of it. This made his position untenable. Make no mistake, Rafa is not going because of footballing reasons, which will be clear when he walks into a top job elsewhere.
  15. So that's sorted the who, and when. What about the quotes? What was evident is that Benayoun was not in the squad for the Hull game, anything else is just a Bascombe-load of nothing, unless you know different.
  16. Did he really? Just think, if we'd hadn't dealt with Pompey for Johnson this year we'd have watched the money they owed us for Crouch disappear as they went into administration. I think that's fairly astute financial planning, myself. We've paid, as I'm sure you know, 8m euros for Aquilani so far. We're due to pay another 7m euros this summer. His full transfer fee will ultimately be around 20m euros, to be paid by the end of next summer. You're surely not so biased as to suggest we actually had 40m to spend last summer?
  17. The same 'beloved defensive right winger' who has scored 4 of our most recent 5 league goals, the other being an own goal? Kuyt has been massively important for us recently, and any fan who doesn't see that has their eyes shut.
