  1. Barry will come to Anfield. The price will be 5-7 million, no more, and he'll be a utility player rotating with Aurelio, Masch, Alonso, Dossena, Riera - in fact the entire left side.
  2. I've lived in Birmingham twice, and here are the problems that Villa fans face. They turn out for the team in good numbers, and they appreciate good football. For years they had to put up with THE most arrogant selfish bastard of an owner - Doug Ellis, who treated the club like his own private toy! He lowered expectations and under-delivered on those. Then came Lerner and MO'N, and the turnaround has been good, but Villa fans sense disappointment coming into view again. They aren't bad supporters, and most of them are local. The final problem is a complete lack of any sense of humor. Famous quote from years back "the thing about Birmingham humor is that it isn't funny" Maybe they are just misunderstood!
  3. Liverpool co-owner George Gillett is considering selling the famous Montreal Canadiens NHL franchise as he undertakes a review of his assets. According to a story that appeared in Monday's Montreal-based newspaper La Presse, the reports are likely to re-open speculation about Gillett's long-term commitment to Liverpool, which he co-owns with fellow American Tom Hicks. According to the report, Gillett has called in financial advisors to take stock of his assets, and is considering anything from a restructuring of his interests to a sell-off. "The process has been started but we're only at the beginning," Canadiens team president Pierre Boivin told La Presse. "We're not hiding it; we're going through a very difficult economic period." Gillett also owns the Canadiens' home arena, the Bell Centre, and a NASCAR team. He and Hicks bought Liverpool in February 2007 with ambitious plans to build a new stadium. Since then, the credit crunch has put the stadium on hold, while the two owners engaged in a very public spat before recently claiming their relationship has been repaired. Last week, Hicks reiterated his commitment to Liverpool for the long term, insisting his share in the team is not for sale, but little has been heard from Gillett. According to the most recent rankings in American business magazine Forbes, the Canadiens franchise is valued at US 334 million (£230 million).
  4. Did Speedy G copy this from a Man Ure Forum. There should be a virus trap against that kind of shit. I stand by the contention that United are past their "sell by date" and it's showing.
  5. I pointed out in an earlier post that the loss to us was Man U's Waterloo, and their Old Guard had let them down. The Fulham game is further evidence. They've had some good results, but their play has been unconvincing and they could not raise their game against us, and again vs Fulham. There are too many tired players in the squad, and Slur Alex knows it. This team will be broken up at the end of the season. Giggs, Scholes will be bit-part players, Tevez will go, maybe even Ronaldo....maybe even SAF himself. Where is the strength there? The mid-field is weak, Van der Sar? they have only one decent full-back. We can't be complacent, we've got work to do, but the danger for the future is Arsenal, not the Chavs or Man U.
  6. This is a major piece of good news! Rafa is a great manager, he'll become a legendary manager! And fuck you, Robbie Keane. You didn't get enough respect? Fuck you, you poser!
  7. We witnessed the end of something at Old Trafford today. It was supposed to be the unstoppable against the upstarts - the potential winners of five against the pretenders. It was something else. Against the energy and determination of our Mighty Reds, the declining power of United became apparent. Nothing was more evident than the inability to raise either the tempo or the pace to equal Liverrpool, let alone overcome us. Scholes, Giggs, and Berbatov reminded me of Napoleon's last throw of the Dice - the Old Guard. Like them, SAF's old reliables broke and ran. The battle was over. Old Boney was left to realize that although he had accomplished much - he was Emperor for a time - a new force had established itself and for him it was over now, and he was too old to start again. This was seismic, and we'll see the aftershocks over the next few weeks!
  8. All he needs to say is "I'm focooossed on my team. We need to concentrate and work 'ard!" in Italian. It's all he says in English!
  9. I don't want to use "I told you so" but when reports hit the papers that things were going badly, I said it had all the signs of a deal close to being done. The Kuwaitis want to own Liverpool. The price will take care of itself. It will be based on projections of Liverpool's earning capacity - certain to be huge given that we can fill a 70,000 stadium and be in Europe on a regular basis. The interesting thing will be if Hicks has an ongoing role. It could be very valuable for LFC to have both a Middle Eastern (Asian) connection and an American one in terms of worldwide marketing. Surprising comment that the Kuwaitis thought Hicks was very humble. Smart negotiating, I'd say! Probably helped by Parry not being involved!
  10. Believe me, if this is what has been published, nothing could be further from the truth! First of all, it shows that there is a real (not just a passing) interest by the Kuwaitis. Secondly, if the only issue is the price, it's not going to get in the way. The buyers know the market as well as the sellers, and the sellers are clearly motivated. Could the obstacle have been Parry? I'm certain this will lead to something - either a deal or bring in somebody else! It ain't over!
  11. Does ANYBODY seriously think that Rafa's position is in any danger? Rafa has delivered amazing progress, including at least 20 million each season through champoins league success. He was integral to the process that led to Parry's departure, not based on personalities, but on performance. Parry sucks as a Chief Executive - slow, unimaginative, lousy leadership skills, no charisma! Rafa is the key to success on the field, which is the key to financial success, which is the key to the new stadium and further success on the field. What is Parry key to? You're right!!! Fuck all!!!!!
  12. As Shakespeare said in Merchant of Venice "A Daniel, a Daniel" you hit the nail on the head! Parry was looking after Parry and Moores and his five hundred thousand quid "success bonus". This is a F****** HAPPY DAY for Reds and for LFC. Over to you, Rafa!
  13. His article simplifies the difference between us and Man Ure down to the strength of the squad. It's true, but the strength comes from the money Man U have spent, which in turn comes from 70,000 home gates and a phenomenal global marketing program. We won't be able to compete on an equal footing until and unless we tap into a bigger fan base. Club projections show that the new stadium will be sold out. LFC has the support and the "brand" to outmuscle Man U financially, but we are still just looking at spreadsheets! The tragedy is, the bus was missed, not by Hicks and Gillette, but by Moores and Parry. They are to blame for our squad being weaker than Man U's, and I won't be content until both of their influence is history in L4.
  14. The US Supporters Club is thinking about a convention in Las Vegas or Orlando. The idea is to bring fans together, build a stronger relationship with the club, and raise the profile of LFC, not just in the US, but worldwide. Would any of you be interested in attending if it could be done? It could easily be the centerpiece of a mini - vacation/holiday for fans and their spouses.
  15. The comparison with GH misses one thing. GH had a life-threatening heart attack that completely changed his thinking and his attitude. Benitez has had kidney stones!!! He is losing not just support, not just his stones, but his marbles!!!
  16. The mood has changed and Benitez changed it. After looking good with a settled team, he reverted to Ranieri style tinkering for the Newcastle game and ever since. The Newcastle game was a false promise because in truth, they were utter crap that day. But did Benitez get it? No way! Let's have a go at Ferguson, let's refuse a new contract. Did he do the talking the talking on the field? What was the word at Stoke? Everton twice? Wigan? The word was...shite! or rather...utter shite!
  17. I'm sick of Benitez picking the team for the game we're not playing! It has happened far too often and cost us at least ten points this season. Why Lucas with Alonso on the bench? Why Babel with Riera on the bench? He's keeping players fresh for the next game. He'll probably start Ngog and El Zhar against Chelsea and keep Torres for the Real Madrid game! I'm sick of it! Fucking sicking of it! He doesn't get it! Virtually every manager in the League can predict him now. He is "foecusssed"! On fucking what? His next imponderable statement. There's no stepping up the pace, it's sideways and backwards for most of the game, and when it doesn't work, he hasn't got a gamechanging idea. I'm sick of it! To misquote Harry - "my missus coulda done better than that"
  18. When we bought Babel, he was not, if I remember correctly, our main target. We wanted Royston Drenthe who went to Real Madrid and there was a sense of "second best Dutchman" about the Babel deal. He has the talent and physique but his heads not in it!
  19. Can anyone imagine Mourihnho in Liverpool 4? It's true that the word is out that the Reds position may open up in June, but really.....Maureen?
  20. Heskey has scored an average of a goal every three games. He is also great at receiving the long ball and holding it off for players moving up from midfield. That's the reason Capello brought him back, with a lot of success. He is the natural replacement to Crouch, a better player with more muscle. He would be a great addition to this squad. Fuck parry!
  21. Same story was in the Telegraph and appears to have some substance. I'm confused as to why the report states H + G would accept 350 million and then goes on to say that the offer is 500 million. It won't be over till it's over!
  22. Did anyone read Martin Samuel's great article in the Daily Mail today? He talks about the importance of trust in relationships and the clear lack of trust that is gripping the key relationships at Liverpool, the key one being between Benitez and Parry. When trust breaks down, both are usually to blame, but in fixing it, one usually has to pay the price, and in our case there is no other option that to part with Parry.
  23. He's just not a Liverpool player. Wrong attitude, and we'll have to wait to find out the real story. He's a great player when he's up for it, and just like Bellamy, we have lost money believing that talent alone can make a Liverpool player. It's depressing as well to think how much we use Kuyt who is the polar opposite. A great guy with too little real talent!
  24. There have been a couple of strong hints in recent comments by Rafa that he actually put Barry way ahead of Keane but was obliged to accept the decision to bring in Keane. If that's true you can understand what's going on with his contract negotiations and why. It also goes a long way to explain Keane's lack of playing time. Rafa does not have a game plan that includes Keane. It also leaves the dilemma, what to do with Keane to avoid a 20 million pound loss? Keane has been disastrous for Liverpool and not done himself much good either. Don't blame Rafa!
  25. The two world spotlights on the City of Liverpool in the 60s were us and the Beatles. I can't recall any significant contact between the two, in fact it's hard to recall the Beatles mentioning LFC. When I knew Paul McCartney at school, I felt he wasn't that interested in football but at his heart he was a Red. I'm wondering if anyone thinks any different.
