Great start, but Trent needs to stay right back! -
Arsenal feeling the unrelenting pressure to be near perfect to beat unlimited wealth. And a third of the season left. Not easy is it

I have the feeling we are in a paradigm shift in the game. A bit like when the premier League first started. In this latest grotesque iteration it looks like we are going to have to sell up to an oil state to compete. Because with potentially Qatar, UAE, and Saudi effectively having a pissing competition to see who is the richest, you can forget about winning titles. What a shit state of affairs
-
Look, the sport sold out a long time ago. All professional sports have. What's happening now is just the latest cycle in that greed. It's inevitable that some champions league games, and premier league games will end up in the middle East. It's inevitable that more oligarchs and nation states will come into the game. I have no doubt that down the line they'll probably mess with goal sizes to increase "entertainment", bring in extra add breaks, etc. I enjoyed the last few years, but when it's not going well I find myself able to detach from it relatively easily. Maybe thats an age thing, but also it's a corrupt rotten game now and I don't know is it something I want a kid to get so invested in.

Neymar is the most overrated player of all time.
-
If only we weren't unbelievably shite. Brighton or Fulham could be top 4 at the current rate. At least we strengthened in January
-
Klopp is indispensable. He is a world class manager. If the players are downing tools/unmotivated he needs to sack/drop/sell them. The players whose legs have gone need similar done
-
Fernandez looked good in the world Cup, but no better than McAlister. 105 million seems excessive. Looked more and steady eddie type. Of all the midfielders, including Touchameni, I thought Bellingham stood out most.
-
Newcastle becoming successful is inevitable. Utd getting beat is always the preferred option.
-
If the current business model is to be continued, Bellingham would have to be insane to come here.
-
Konate was the Lovren replacement. A year late. That's kinda my point.
-
Mainly the only time I see opposition players is when they play us. This year the Napoli winger, kvartshelia, Mitoma twice, mudryck in about 20 mins. Straight away you can say, this lad has it. Good feet, explosive, whatever. With Gakpo I have no clue what he is good at or what he brings. A baffling signing considering we are fucked in midfield.
-
Obviously with the current trainwreck in midfield it isn't priority, but we should be transitioning out the centre backs now in anticipation of Virgils last few years. Gomez, nowhere near good enough, should be sold this year, and Matip should leave the following year. If Virgil is still good enough to start in 3 years, great. But if not at least we'll be a bit more prepared. The fact that we've neglected midfield for about 5 years will no doubt prevent this happening as that'll be the priority.
-
Our expectations and standards are so low now that people are trying to say he was decent today. Not seeing it. He looks low energy, and kept giving away cheap fouls. I do feel sorry for him walking into a team in such sharp decline. Midfield is terrible, but we are also a far cry from the electric Mane, Firmino, Salah forward line of 4 years ago.
-
Two transfer windows gone, and midfield not addressed. By the time they sort the midfield we'll be short somewhere else, probably central defence.

30 seconds before the free Gomez was beaten to a straight forward centre half's header against a man 5 inches smaller than him. The team is now completely dysfunctional -

Some cameo this from Fabinho. -
190 million on forwards? We let 3 go, and got 3 in. But I would agree that money would have been better spent on a midfielder than Gakpo.
-
My point is, there are lots of players out there who would improve us. And yet we suffer on with a decrepit midfield, and will probably offer contract extensions to them.
-
12 months ago you could have picked up all of Caicdeo, Enzo Fernandez and Kvaratskhelia for the princely sum 25 million. I'm sure there are other examples. Have the scouting department gone on strike? There must be players out there who would improve us considerably and not cost 100 million this January.
