  1. True, but most of their effective attacks come from the quick break when their opponents overcommit forward. Out of frustration. Watching the game yesterday, it was interesting to see both teams counter attacking quickly, and virtually all the chances for both sides came from that. Rooney was on the pitch, Henry wasn't (even when he was!) and so United were far more effective at it than Arsenal over the game. We do something similar by frustrating opponents until they lose their discipline and attack quickly with the much maligned long ball up to Crouch. It might not be as pretty, but it does get the ball in the same area for the midfielders to support. Different method, same result. I am sure our style will progress next season with the new signings, but then we will have 2 effective ways of attacking. Which should give us a similar advantage to Chelsea (Drogba and the speedy wingers are their 2 variations).
  2. Both play what I would consider counter attacking football though. Rafa prefers to strangle the life out of opponents. Patience. Next season Rafa will have more possibilities for sure.
  3. Jester hat wearing daytrippers are defo OTT. I assume you meant OOT? ;)
  4. He'll be 32 by the end of his contract. Any sane manager will wait at least one more year before even considering offering a new one. Players usually get old fast and at different ages. I imagine he will be offered a one or two year extension at the end of next season if he keeps playing well.
  5. Steven Gerrard - The Ego Has Landed Sami Hyypia - The Finn Red Line
  6. They do however, speak Spanish in a very Italian style. All South American countries other than Brazil speak Spanish, but have their own accents and linguistic style.
  7. You are Arsene Wenger and I claim my fiver!
  8. It isn't a myth. Until partway through last season, Riise had been very poor for 2 whole years wherever he played. Both the current manager and the previous one did not rate him at left back and Rafa's team worked extensively with him to improve his performances there. That's one of the reasons he was played at left mid with Carra at left back because he was quite frankly a fish out of water most of the time. Ball watching and turning his back on the game were his 2 biggest faults. This has improved, but only relatively recently (this season). Why do you think Traore was playing left back most of last season?
  9. Pundits have agendas. Referees mostly don't.
  10. Tough question as there are loads of players in the current squad I really like, which is a definite sign of progress. Alonso is just class, Momo will be an awesome player in a year or two, Garcia always pops up when we need him, Robbie is God, Sami and Finnan are consistently excellent, Crouch is a huge part of our improved form this year. Didi is a legend. And we aren't even allowed to choose Gerrard and Carra. But I've gone for Pepe, because he is way cool, the best keeper we have had in years and a bit mental with it. Actually he's a lot mental with it. Nutter and top man.
  11. But they're right. We should believe we can still win it until it is mathematically impossible. We would have done in the old days. For sure.
  12. I'd tell him to fcuk off and we'll take our chances trying to win both. Cheeky non-existent deity.
  13. To be honest, I reckon he's better in the box because he actually attacks the ball which too few of our players do from corners. You can choose from Riise, Didi, Alonso et al to sit on the edge of the box.

    Diouf

Pele certainly scored more goals, but he never tried his hand in Europe as it was not as common then, so comparisons are a bit shaky.
  15. These days, that could also be applied to us, so I've stopped bothering with those London Mancs jokes. Sad but true.
  16. Hating the French is part of our cultural heritage though and should not be abandoned lightly. This tolerance, peace and love thing is darn tricky.
  17. I spent an entertaining 15 minutes on a bridge in Amsterdam that weekend asking the riot police to go in and have the England fans gathered en masse outside a bar in the red light district (I was merely there for educational purposes) who were singing the same racist shite, plus the old standards like No Surrender. It was quite embarrassing to be English to be honest as most of the other country's fans were mingling in pure party mode, including the amazingly mad pogoing Slovenians. Does this make me a bad Englishman?
  18. It's Krommo. Probably. I'll be following Spain because I always need to pick a team to support in any game I watch. Make it more personal and interesting. Plus it'll wind up all the Ingerlund fans who take an objection to an Englishman not bothered to support England, hence the poll (shameless plug alert!) on another thread. And I love watching Brazil.
  19. NP, your silence indicates you do not want young Owen back. A wise choice. Looking at my poll options, I found it quite interesting how my position has changed over the years. Until I was about 20, I got right behind England. Then for a few years I would support the red men in the team only. Now I couldn't give a flying. I put this change down to getting sick of the media coverage that surrounds Enland's "battle campaigns", the England fans themselves, and just getting fed up of how Liverpool is treated by the rest of the country. The final straw was at Euro 2000, where I went to 11 games, only 1 of them England, the Portugal game. And having to walk to the ground with the England fans singing "I'd rather be a Paki than a Turk". After having been in a Turkish bar with loads of them before the game and they didn't even realise. Dumbasses.
  20. Feel free to take Owen Hargreaves back anytime you want.
  21. That's the point of the poll, to find out if it is a stupid question or not. ;)
  22. I know this has been discussed before, but I would be interested to see the poll results. I was chatting with a Birmingham fan last night (good fun that was!) who we established was an England fan first, Birmingham second. He was mystified that not only did I not care whether England did well in the World Cup, but would find it funny if they got knocked out. So, English only, how much do you care about England's chances in the World Cup? If you could indicate where you come from too, as part of this is to find out if scousers care less about the national team than people from other parts of the country.
  23. Dude, we don't play football in the summer. You may be disappointed! ;)
