Playing at centre half he is top quality. Not a full back he just shapes wrong on the flank but he is fantastic right now, and he and Sammi (lots of stick this season) were great today.

There has been a lot made of the summer goings on with Steven Gerrard. Since it was resolved there has been a lot of vitriol levied at SG and many questioning his commitment etc. I was working today and missed the game and had to listen to the second half driving home on a very crackly 5 live (in Ireland). Can you believe the the live link broke down just after Mellor made contact with his winning drive!!! Still went bonkers when the win was confirmed. Anyway sitting here watching football first I think that once and for all we need to recognise both how important our captain is to us, how well our midfield will be with him and Alonso and finally that he is commited to the cause the club and the management. The key to this for me is the several reruns of Xavi's excellent goal and the focus on Stevie and Rafa after the stike. He imediately turned to the bench and Rafa stopped mid celebration and responded to SG with a thumbs up. Then he pegged it over to Alonso. I for one only have one word for Steven Gerrard and that is awesome. And in Xavi and Stevie we may have the makings of the best midfield partnership around very soon. We have a heart of passion from back to front from Jamie through the middle which will be improved with the return of Milan. Build on that Rafa. Fuck me just seen the winner! Go on lad!

Probably cos of the line up etc. As the camera goes round the crowd showing the singing I catch a view of a bloke stood next to a scarf waving fan who was singing heartedly. This guy tho is just filling his face with a fucking pie!!!! WTF does it mean to be a Liverpool fan these days? When you consider what YNWA really means this to me is disrespectful behaviour. But this attitude is indicative of the failing atmos. And I dont see how seating impacts this as we all stand up at the start!

Personally I am really pleased for him. He is one of ours. Very humble celebration. He is no arrogant pre-madonna which still makes a refreshing change!

Bruce an Pallister were like Hyppia ans Henchoz and were exceptional. That being said Michael Owen ran past them for fun. Same of Keown and Adams. No defender would have been quick enough to defend the two goals on Sat as the execution was so good. What all great defensive partnerships have in common is great midfields. This allows them to play positionally and not get exposed. In the same way that great goalkeepers in the main play behind great defences. How else woul;d Brucie have survived. And why do many keepers deteriorate? James looked v good after his move to Villa cos their defence was better than ours he played behind! I have no problems with Sammi or the defence if the midfield is right! It is a team game. He has looked much more motivated this term. I believe that was his problem previously.

What about his performances this season suggest he will go? Looks committed to me. I say No. To be honest if I got a huge offer to move to a rival to my company I would be tempted particularly if they were doing better than us. I would also keep my powder dry to ensure i got treated right. In the end it would be where and who i wanted to work for that would do it. Once I made my choice it would be done. No ITV2 I am afraid. I prefer to focus on his final touch which more often or not when it is a chance is a goal or forcing a save. GH gave him no time but when he has played I have been impressed.
