  1. Diouf for us without question. With regards to the biggest flops for other clubs then: Mendietta (Valencia-Lazio £30 Million plus I believe) Veron (both his transfers to Man Utd and then Chelsea) Dean Richards (was he really worth £8 Million of Spurs money to replace Sol Campbell when they had Ledley King coming through the ranks?) Stan Collymore (LFC-Villa: didn't it work out something like £1 Million a goal?) Gerard (Valencia-Barca for a massive fee I seem to remember. Was one of the best young midfielders in Europe circa. 2001 but never came close to repaying the fee. Was released I think last summer)
  2. Disagree that it is harder to win the Champions League these days then it was the old European Cup. Remember you had to win your domestic league first (and the English 1st Division was THE strongest league around back in the 70's and early 80's-English club's won 7 out of 8 European Cup's from 77-84) before being allowed to enter as apposed to finishing in the top 4. Also a lot of the team's you faced might not be household names now but they were great sides back then! Club's like Steau Bucharest always had a great side because they pretty much had the Romanian national team playing for them. Eastern European players didn't tend to play abroad as often as they do now-therefore they stayed in their home country and played for their nation's strongest side!
  3. Phil Charnock (holding midfielder) was very highly rated but never made the grade here. He ended up going to Crewe. Anyone know who he plays for now? Last I heard he was playing in Northern Ireland. Also whatever happened to Nicky Tanner?
  4. Oyvind Leonardson. Thought he was okay at Wimbledon (as a central midfielder) but didn't think he was of the quality to improve us-especially playing left wing! The likes of Sean Dundee, Erik Meijer, Salif Diao and Bruno Cheyrou I didn't really know much about before we signed them but during the early days of their Liverpool careers I could see that Dundee and Meijer were never really going to make it. I thought that Diao and Cheyrou both showed early promise (Diao against Spurs and Leeds and Cheyrou against Lazio, Spartak Moscow and Bolton) but it wasn't to be. Like all Liverpool fans I really hope Peter Crouch comes good but I was disapointed we signed him-especially for £7 Million (really felt the club could have got him for much less but that's another issue)! Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I really wish we'd signed Dirk Kuyt in the summer. The guy is absolute quality and after next summer's World Cup will most probably be worth £20 Million plus.
  5. Heard/read a rumour that he and Rafa had a falling out over the handling of Kewell's injury. Don't know if there's any truth in that or not!
  6. Think I've got all 17: Fowler Owen Diouf Baros Westerveld Friedel James Matteo Henchoz Berger Heskey Murphy Vignal Wright Thompson Xavier Warner (or is he only on loan at Fulham?)
  7. You're right-£7-10 Million is a bit excessive now I really think about it! Glad to hear that he does have 2 years left as it means that we won't be held to ransom if/when a club comes in for him before August the 31st. Incidentley does anyone else think that the turning point in Baros' Liverpool career was that missed penalty against West Brom on Boxing day? Remember the game before against Newcastle when he had a blinder? That for me was the best I've ever seen Baros play. He only scored twice for us last season after that!
  8. Cheers! Went on their site but couldn't find anything.
  9. Anyone know if Wednesday's game is on the box? The 2nd leg is (ITV1) but can't find any info for the 1st leg.
  10. A big factor on his value is how long he has left on his contract. I've heard from various people/media outlets that he has only one year left although I'm sure that I heard/read somewhere that he's got two years left! If he's only got the one year left then his value would most probably be around £4-6 Million as in 5 months time he could sign a pre-contract with another club and go on a Bosman free next summer. However if he's got 2 years left then his value would be around £7-10 Million IMO. Josef is right when he mentions that clubs are judging Baros on last season's CL performances as apposed to his displays at Euro 2004 as IMO the CL (especially the latter stages, i.e. last 16 onwards) is a higher standard of football and you tend to find that only the very best players, not just in Europe but in the world, tend to do the business on a regular basis in latter stages of that competition.
  11. 90-91 season at OT. We drew 1-1 and Speedie scored our goal that day!
  12. Fan of Queresma myself! I remember seeing him play for Portugal under 21's against England 2 seasons ago and he looked exceptional. Didn't really get much of a chance at Barca from what I remember although when I did see him play for them I was fairly impressed. Played well when he came on against Boca Juniors in the Amsterdam tournament last week and is better then what we've got at right-midfield IMO. Don't think he's any older than 21 so still plenty of time on his side!
  13. Is Figo allowed to play in Italy? I remember about 10 years ago he'd agreed to join 2 Italian clubs (Parma and Juve I think) at the same time and the Italian FA. banned him from playing in Serie A although I'm not to sure how long for!
  14. Shame we didn't sign Boumsong on a free last year as he'd of been perfect for us IMO.
  15. BTW, what if Newcastle had won the Uefa Cup this season but finished 12th in the PL. Would Uefa automatically let them play in the Uefa Cup next season or would they ask the F.A. to put them forward for the competition as apposed to the team finishing in 7th in the PL?
  16. What I don't understand is why can't Uefa just let 5 English clubs in as apposed to 4? The PL champions plus CL winners to go automatically into the competition with the teams who finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the PL going into the final qualifying round!?
  17. The last thing Gerrard needs is a short break. Sunday's game was Gerrard's first match for 15 days with the exception of the Tsunami benefit game so he definately should not be tired. Also I think it would be good for him to get Sunday's game out of his system ASAP-no point dwelling on it!
  18. He's fluent in English aswell which is a bonus as he went to school in America.
  19. Agree on Finnan. I'm not one of his biggest fans but yesterday I thought he was excellent and had, for me, his best game for the club to date!
  20. David Villa of Real Zaragoza has been linked with us-don't know if he's the player you're refering too?
  21. The only times I've seen him play he was playing as a right-winger.
  22. I've been very impressed by Routledge whenever I've seen him play and if he was available on the cheap then he'd be worth a gamble. Remember seeing him play against Sunderland in the play-off semi-final last season and he ran them ragged. Yes, Sunderland are only a Championship side but to be fair to Routledge he's impressed me in the PL aswell. Probably wouldn't be asking for a lot with regards to personal terms aswell.
