  1. One of my favourite authors (along with Neil Gaiman and Clive Barker - seriously, if you've not read the Books of Blood, Weaveworld or Imajica... plus he's a Liverpudlian!). Don't particularly like his earlier, horror stuff, but Bag of Bones, Dolores Claiborne, Rose Madder, Duma Key - just fantastic. He'll never be considered literature but he's a massive cut above the airport novel brigade (Grisham, et al). Books I - IV of the Dark Tower sequence are just fantastic. Wizard and Glass probably my favourite. Have a paperback copy of The Stand I must have read 10 times. The miniseries wasn't the best, but the soundtrack (WG Snuffy Walden, RIP) is pure magic.
  2. First post in about 5 years, but surely Det Som En Gang Var (song, not album) has to be the greatest song of all time?? The guy's a complete nutter, but he is (err... was) a musical genius, no??
  3. Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss Rather obscure, but quite simply the most beautiful, hypnotic, powerful, mythical, trance-like, pure, honest, real, scary, transcendent, insane, and serious-as-fuck album I've ever heard. REAL music that actually means something. The fact that it's Norwegian black metal made by a guy in prison for murder only adds to its reputation. Proved to me that music can be more than just music. Metallica - Live Shit; Binge and Purge Surely the greatest live album ever. 3 discs of awesome and flawless headbanging masterpieces performed by the greatest metal band of all time at the height of its power. 18 minute Seek and Destroy an undisputed highlight. Reminds me of the years between 18 and 22, the best years of any bloke's life. Machine Head - Burn My Eyes Coincided with me living in the UK for a year on a GAP year and having a ball. Effortlessly straddled numerous metal genres without falling into Nu-Metal bullshit. I honestly believe this album defined metal for the 90s. And the best news is they're now back to their best. One of the greatest album titles ever. Oh and honourable mentions to Ulver, Dodheimsgard, Devin Townsend, Dream Into Dust, Blood Axis, Isis, Agalloch, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
  4. No way, El Jefe is a world class player. Everyone - including Rafa - knows this. We will sign him whatever teh cost. Momo needs to convince Rafa that he is of a comparable quality to at least Lucas. The next 6 months will be important for him. If he doesn't impress, I can see him going in the Summer.
  5. Oh, and fuck that ACCDC SHIT, real aussie metail these days is ALCHEMIST,. awesome band, if they were in teh US they woud be megastars. and they're even from rthe 'bra (Canberra, UAussie capital for you philitstoners (ha))!!
  6. Don't know where you are mate, bu hoeaarden is a nice drop. Easiest drinking beer I;ve ever had. fucking experniseve here in Aus, tho. Forgve the typose, cant b arsed after 8 veers!!
  7. Haha, quality. Amazing that one can derive so much pleasure from careening around the house screaming out-of-key lyrics to 80s metal (while pissed, of course). Chicks just don't understand.
  8. Well, it's presently Sat night 8.30 here in Aus. Plan is to continue drinking Hoegaarden until Arse v Mancs kicks off in about 3 hours, and then attempt to stay up until 4am when we're on. Fucking time zones!! Missus is away for the weekend so the Maiden and the 'Tallica is cranked.
  9. From the table it does look a game in hand, but it's not one of the two games we missed earlier in the season, so by definition it isn't. It's our game in December that we'll miss because of Japan that's been brought forward. So I guess technically, the rest of the Prem will have a game in hand on us for a bit, but we'll have two games in hand on them! O_o
  10. Come first in your group and the second leg of the second round is at home... definitely an advantage.
  11. http://www1.sbs.com.au/home/index.php3?id=63148 I'd be interested in seeing us play Boca. Would be an enjoyable game to watch because there'd be no pressure to win (a la Super Cup) that would serve to raise our profile internationally. These things have been held in Japan in recent years, haven't they? God knows how it could be organised, though.
  12. anything anyone could ever want to know about UEFA rankings, seedings, co-efficients etc: http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/ -damn you slow internet connection...
  13. Anyone else notice that when JC went down a Chelsea player (not the one who fouled him) purposefully went down next to JC so it would look like a harmless collision? Or am I being a little too cynical?
