  1. I don't like the idea at all, mainly becuase when you see Mark Lawrenson and Alan Hansen defend together, it is as much a pleasure to watch as Dalglish and Rush. Defending is as much part of the game as attacking and that should be recognised. The great thing about football is the ability for freak results. Much as I hate the way Stoke played at Anfield, the better teams should break them down anyway, and perhaps it is the ability to do that that allows the right team to come out on top at the end of the season. What I do like the idea of though, is a bonus point if you score 4 or more in a game, regardless of the final score. I also think that the playoff should be between the 3rd bottom club and the 3rd top club of the division below (top two and bottom two swap automatically). The league does not lie over a season and for the likes of Ipswich to come third four years on the trot but be knocked out in the playoffs by a lesser side (in that season) is not fair.
  2. Interesting idea about just goal difference, so thought I would see the effects of it. The following would have been different: 2008 – Chelsea would have come 4th, pushing Arsenal to 2nd and us to 3rd. Birmingham would have been in 13th place instead of relegated, and Sunderland would have gone down in their place (actually finishing in 15th) 2007 – No change at the top. West Ham would have gone down instead of Sheffield United. Oh the irony!! 2006 – Arsenal would have jumped to 3rd instead of 4th and we would have jumped the other way. Portsmouth would have gone down instead of Birmingham 2005 – We would have come 4th instead of Everton, who would have moved down to 9th. This system looks OK to me!! Southampton would have stayed up instead of coming bottom, and West Brom would ahve gone instead. 2004 – No changes in top 4 or bottom 4 with Everton coming 17th (which they did) 2003 – Arsenal would have won the league instead of United. Chelsea and Liverpool would have jumped one place each to 3rd and 4th respectively, and Newcastle would have gone from 3rd to 5th. Bottom was the same. 2002 – We would have been 3rd instead of 2nd, with United jumping a place. Chelsea would be in 4th when they actually finished 6th. Bottom 5 the same. 2001 – We would have been runners up to go with our 3 major trophies, with Arsenal down to 3rd. Chelsea again finishing 6th would have had the 4th place spot. Bottom 4 the same. 2000 – Leeds would have dropped from 3rd to 5th, with us and Chelsea both gaining a place. Bradford City would have gone down instead of Wimbledon.
  3. The shirt that Phil Neal wore from 1981 to 1983 (ish), signed by the whole team
  4. 4 out of 10, but I would have got the next 10 questions right if they had written them!
  5. I think it was a reasonable assessment of the game actually. Perhaps a little on the biased side though!!!!
  6. Lovely to read this thread, the admiration for the man is well deserved. For me, he was the most complete footballer that ever played in the UK - Best included. He had everything plus unlimited grit and determination, and was one of the hardest players ever to don the shirt. You can take the World Footballer of the Year for the last 20 years, add them all together, and they still wouldn't be as good as Kenny. That is not my quote, but that of a top Germany jounalist, who is also a United fan. He said the same about George Best too.
  7. go to the 'Horrible, Horrible bastards' thread. Nazi type propoganda if ever I saw it. No wonder they all hate us so much if theat is the shite being spread.
  8. They have one of the finest histories in English football. Anyone who sings this just makes themselves look a twat. In my humble opinion of course.
  9. True stories. Bloke down the pub started gong on about having earache. so I told him to go down the ENT at the local hospital. He had no idea what ENT was, so when I explained that the ears effected the nose and throat, he seemed happy to be inlighted. he then went on to say that ears also effected eyesight. I described to him that this was not the case and the arguement wont on for a few minutes. Eventually, he said "The ears do effect the eyesight", proceeded to take out his glasses and put them on and continued with "because without them my fucking glasses would fall off and I wouldn't see a fucking thing! And if that is not good enough: My Dad is totally deaf in his left ear, and mostly deaf in his right - so he wears a hearing aid in that one. A few years ago, a new state of the art hearing aid came out and luckily for him, his cousin worked in the factory where they made them, so instead of having to pay 2k, he got them at cost (about 200 quid). He therefore bought two, one as a spare. It actually changed his life as he then went on to become chairman of the Catenians, Speakers Club adn RICS. So proud of him for that with such a handicap. Anyway, some time later, his hearing aid broke down, so he sent it back to the factory. About two weeks later I asked him if he had his hearing aid back yet, and with a dead straight face he replied "You know, I sent it off a fortnight ago and haven't heard a thing since". Last one: My best mate had ust moved to Duesseldorf in Germany, but was home for the weekend adn we were doen the local pub playing pool. As we were playing, this absolute cockney gobshite came in and put his name up for a game. I didn't really know him, but had seen him in there quite a bit (or quite a tit actually). He used to have barbed wire tattoos around his wrist, but had them removed by laser surgery and they had left a scar al the way around each wrist. As our pool game was going on, I turned to my mate and said "How id Duesseldorf then?". before he could reply this cockney piped in with "Duesseldorf, I know it well. Been all around the world I have, started off in Saudi Arabia..." At this my mate looked at the scars on his wrist and interrupted with "I see you won your appeal then". I was rolling around the floor, even moreso as the cockney twat didn;t even understand what he meant. Hope that cheared you up. All 100% true.
  10. I am not pushing anyones agenda and resent the comment. Having been there on the day, always resisted before - but it is an idea that I think works, and more importantly, works safely. We know much more now than we did at the time of the Taylor interim report (i.e. Schalke amongst others) and that knowledge can be used to protect our fans. Not sure about the reaction of the families as a whole to safe standing, but know of at least one that is not opposed to it, basically beccause standing was not the reason for the disaster.
  11. We are all angry. We are angry about the complete cover up (whitewash) and lack of Justice received from the British courts in relation to those who perished at Hillsborough. We are angry about the owners of our club for many things including not starting the new stadium. We are angry at being told to sit down at matches. We are angry that United are only on League Title behind us and therefore even more so that Stevie G’s goal was disallowed on Saturday. We are angry at ticket prices and the extra attention to the corporates. We are angry that we come up with original songs and two weeks later they are being repeated at every ground in the country. We are all very angry, and with good reason. We are so angry that we have formed groups such as the HJC and Hope for Hillsborough to deal with the injustice. We then have RTK to address the in the ground issues, and the LSU to lead the way in overcoming the ownership (and also therefore new stadium) issues. Let’s firstly be positive. The European courts will finish their review of Kevin Williams ‘Right to Life’ case any time now. With the evidence in place, they can surely not come up with anything but a positive answer – any other verdict would make the whole system farcical. The British Courts surely cannot ignore a European ruling, and therefore; some time in the not too distant future, The Truth will be firmly on the statute. Now this ruling is the most important issue surrounding Liverpool Football Club, but as mentioned above, there are other less important issues. The use of those words do not diminish the relevance of the other issues, just highlight the magnitude of the Justice campaign for Kevin and hopefully the knock on effects to the other families. The Owners have fucked up on a big scale. The club is deeply in debt – the only issue that Michele Plattini got general public backing on his thoughts, and the new stadium has been put on hold. We are way behind the times and every other club except Everton have had their stadium for a number of years. Can we use this to our advantage though? With all other stadia already built, can we use our delay as a time to introduce another issue to the already overloaded SOS agenda? We are the supporters who were put through Hillsborough. We are the ones that suffered. Can we be the ones who re-introduce standing back into British Football? I have never been in favour of it before. Memories of that dreadful day have always produced the immediate answer that everything must be done to avoid a re-occurrence. But having looked at the likes of Schalke’s safe standing areas over the past few years, I believe it is time that serious consideration was duly given. There have been many surveys and reports produced by a number of the football supporters organisations, all of which state that the ‘Safe Standing’ model is; as it says on the tin, safe. While we are complaining about being told to sit down by the club, we should think about it. That problem would go out of the window. Furthermore, there would be an increased attendance in the same m2 area than with seats (although not back to the days of old of course) which either gives the club increased revenue or the supporters cheaper tickets (I know which would apply). That in turn may reduce construction cost per capita or increase projected design attendance. At the end of it all, safe standing would encourage an atmosphere above and beyond our current levels (European Nights and big games excepted). I am not naive enough to thing that this would be easy – I believe that there are currently laws against standing in certain stadia (Top division football), but if it ever to be done, perhaps now is the time. Give us an advantage because everyone else has missed that boat. Make something positive come out of the total mismanagement of our club. If the campaign is loud enough, then other football fans will join in – they too are interested in standing, extortionate ticket prices and the risk of new owners putting their club into debt. Done through the SOS website as an official campaign, by definition other supporters will also become aware of the other issues that we have, potentially encouraging a wider support (it could effect them one day) and that also means awareness of Anne Williams case and the events of nearly 20 years ago. We would still be angry that United are only one championship behind us. We will still be angry about legitimate goals being disallowed, but I believe Anne will succeed, I believe that we will get rid of our owners and I believe that a safe standing area will give us a further advantage over other clubs on the field of play whilst addressing a couple of other issues as mentioned above. LFC can continue to write history. Don’t get me wrong. I am aware of how full the current agenda is, and personally I would lose every other battle in order to see Justice succeed in the British courts (including the prosecution and imprisonment of those that lied under oath or deliberately falsified documents – if there were any such instances of course!!) if that were a given choice. But there are a plethora of identified pros as well as some potential peripheral ones in this. The timing just seems to be right. Just an idea. What do you think?
  12. At the end of the day it is a bit of harmless fun that means nothing and gives the 99% of its subscribers that never go to Anfield (The whoppas as you describe them) something to talk about. If voting was only allowed by people who had enough intelligence and knowledge on any particular subject, then there would be no such thing as democracy.
  13. The problem is that the Offal gets many people from outside the UK. Having lived in a few different countries in Asia, the middle east and the US, I have come accross loads of people who state that they like Liverpool and United or Liverpool and Arsenal. I always explain to them that you cannot do this, but to no avail. They call themselves Liverpool supporters, but they miss out on one of the main benefits - fierce rivaly. The thought of having a second team is nothing to them as they do not have any connection to our history or our city, most had hardly heard of Liverpool until the last 15 years when English football has been beamed out to Asia and other parts of the world. For them, football really was invented in 1992. Therefore, the results of such a poll are not accurate for the matchgoing fan. United and Everton would not get a vote and most would say that there is no such thing as a second team, especially from the same division, hence the answers above.
  14. The answer is easy. Everyone not from Liverpool is a wanker. Or is it everyone from Liverpool is a wanker? No, Hold on minute, there are wankers from Liverpool adn wankers from outside of Liverpool. The key thing for me, and I originate from Liverpool, is, as my Brother puts it, you either get it or you don't. It is not just about the football club, it is about embracing the culture adn teh people of our great city. There are many Wools who agre great Reds. Ther are many Scousers who are not great Reds (no shit Sherlock). People on other boards get upset about some of the chants and breaks from tradition. Although some of them have their heads up their arses as they believe in myths, the sentiment is right for me. We (or our predicessors) have set the trends. We are not any other club. Those that embrace that, no matter where they are from are welcome, those that don't, no matter where they are from, are not. Saying that, I have no right to police others. I don't even live in the UK anymore.
  15. Exactly. Anne will win in the end. It is just a matter of time.
  16. Ann eis still waiting for a ruling by teh European courts, which could come at any time. lease God it will be teh right one. They have been looking at it since last December, so it would seem they are taking into accont all the available evidence, which should be a good thing.
  17. I think this is important, so will bump it up.
  18. Just out of interest, why do you think he was a waste of talent at Everton?
  19. From the BBC BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | Aston Villa | O'Neill wants decision over Barry Last Paragraph
  20. Regardless of your opinions on what he says, he would likely have made a superb manager adn had many offers. He chose not to go down that line because he realised all the pressure Dalglish put up with and decided it was not for him. He is not like the failed managers you see spouting off. His job is purely football pundit, which he generally does well, although it is clear that he does talk bollocks sometimes, but we all do.....see this post for evidence!!
  21. The question is, who did more for Liverpool? I say that because of Kenny was called to lead us through bad times, thank God Shanks and Uncle Bob did not have to. I put this above and beyond any other achievement and that is why I put Kenny's name forward in this respect.
