PODCAST: Liverpool 0 Manchester United 0 - Match Reaction

The Reds relinquished top spot in the Premier League after they failed to beat plucky underdogs Manchester United on a frustrating afternoon at Anfield.

Chris Smith is joined by Julian Richards and TLW Editor Dave Usher to discuss what went wrong and what was good, before the lads turn their attention to the midweek cup clash with West Ham.

I was literally talking John through the possible ways to counteract it as me and him led the charge to find an accessible chippy. It messed with heads.

The way you all rallied around to make sure Dave had his chips was an admirable display of considerate friendship akin to the courtesy offered to my awkward veggie diet when we were planning dinner at the Christmas do the other week.

It's a lightning rod because we look shit. I think it's partly because of out of form players, but it's not just that.

Exactly. And as you've said a few times - if the system is so great then why do we have to keep changing it after an hour seemingly every game?!

If we're happy with Trent's role then why does Gomez have to keep coming on as the cavalry?

Also, is it just me, or does Gomez seem more effective as a flying fullback than Trent does as a hybrid?

Loved Chris' take on Roy Keane. Fuck him; the dour, hypocritical cunt.

Some fucking nerve calling Van Dijk and Liverpool arrogant. Alex Ferguson and him were central to Man Utd's highly obnoxious and deeply arrogant persona during their successful period.

I felt this result and performance was very much in the post. I was worried Utd would snatch a shitty win before kick off, and they almost did.

I was surprised at how little time Harvey was given. Only minutes for arguably our player of the season so far?  Very odd.

Endo was very good.  Extremely surprising (and odd) to see people saying he wasn’t.

I said at the time I was done with Nunez when he let that ball just roll out instead of sticking it in the empty net, but that was a bit of an overreaction. But I’m getting close.  And I think it’s partly because of the people on social media telling me he’s going to be brilliant.  He’s well into his second season now. We need to see it. It’s all getting a bit Kieta with some saying he makes all the difference and is superb when he clearly isn’t. Someone showed a video on twitter of his Anfield performance when he was at Benfica and we’re saying this is why he believes he’ll be brilliant. The video then proceeds to show Nunez being caught offside about 200 times.

I agree with whoever said they’d take 3 points against Arsenal this weekend if it meant losing the FA Cup game. But I absolutely don’t agree with the idea that tonight’s West Ham game doesn’t matter. You have a chance of only 4 trophies every season. We’re in the quarter final and are the best team left. We should be pushing on to win this, particularly with Europe parked until March.
