  1. I’ve just read that Anna Frid of ABBA was the daughter of an SS officer as part of a Nazi forced breeding program. This is a fact. Nothing to do with middle class mores but we don’t seem to have a thread called “pop stars with Nazi fathers” so I have come here with this astonishing information. I wouldn’t hold it against her though.
  2. It’s brilliant but then I’m a train nerd. Paris at night just fucking amazing, little bistros and bar’s everywhere spilling out over the pavements gorgeous women and amazing food. I’m coming back to fucking Weatherspoons followed by a Nando’s.
  3. Yeah but I don’t want to rock up home about 8 on a Friday half pissed having been away. Doesn’t make you popular.
  4. About to travel home from Paris on the train. Got a half bottle of decent claret, a Max Hastings book and 2.5 hours all to myself. Bliss.
  5. Its the obvious pre planning over days that gets me, surely at some point there's a bit of your brain that say "now hang on, were going to go for prison for life and be kept in solitary if we carry on, it's really not worth whatever sick fun we might have".
  6. All I'm saying is I've got a lush lawn, deep and green.
  7. This from the New York Times science section about eels: x
  8. I think he will top himself. He’s already injured himself a couple of times pre trial. The thought of waking up every day on a thin mattress, making a cup of tea, turning on the radio then staring at the wall all day for 16 hours until you go back to sleep. It will drive him insane within a year or so. It’s a form of state torture, actually more humane to shoot him.
  9. I hate to say it but in my medical experience that’s probably something terminal. A crick in your neck in your 20s is a really bad sign. Really sorry for you. Make the most of what little time you have left. Be strong.
  10. Ha ha. Its a Black and Decker, fuck me it was well made in its time. I'm quite sentimentally attached to it now, won't ever throw it away.
  11. Starting to realise that stuff I have owned from new is getting really old. I’ve got a power drill that is 30 years old now. Seen me though several houses and still works.
  12. As an ex copper and sex offender, that's a whole life in solitary for his own protection. Fully deserved of course but a fucking grim prospect, 40 years of sitting on your own in a little cell waiting to die.
  13. Weird choice for a Cure song but I still voted for it. Very underrated band.
  14. I think its an point he's weak on. Turn the maverick charm into a character flaw. He's is losing popularity in the Tory party much faster than he is in the Country. They won't heckle him from the floor but he's really not popular with the grass roots of the party.
  15. I thought it was ok although too long and too many mentions of his Dad. The heckling from a crazy eyed Momentum loon was just a news friendly gift to the media and I think he needed a Kinnock moment to knock that off the news agenda. The Torys will be happy with that, could have been a lot worse for them though I think the Boris is a trivial man will hit home.
  16. This is the answer. At best we are going to come across bacterial life below the surface of Mars or something weird in the water below the frozen ice on one of the moons of Jupiter. However finding the latter is still decades away so probably not in my lifetime.
  17. I'd be surprised. The judge will be conscious of the public scrutiny of the case. 6 months in Holloway, out in 3 with a christmas book deal and on the GMB sofa within hours of leaving the prison gates
  18. She’s got to be looking at a custodial sentence, up to 6 months. Be a good book deal at the end of it though.
  19. There are 3 issues here 1. Intelligence is a very rare trait in nature. Of the 6 million species currently on the earth, only 1 is intelligent enough to build a radio and we can assume these odds are similar elsewhere. 2. we have not been intelligent very long. We’ve been on the planet for about 5 million years but only became intelligent about 30,000 years ago and probably won’t last another 1,000 years. 3. the nearest likely planet is about 17,500 light years away so 35,000 years to have a conversation so we need to find an alien who evolved intelligence (1 in 6 million odds), at the same time as us (30,000/5.3 million = 0.5% chance) and is nearby. Pretty tiny odds.
