  1. Only Arsenal can buy a central midfielder for £100m and for him to stay fit and to play well in every game. Footy's easy when it works out like that. Arsenal have all the right age profiles for their key players too, a squad full of 22-26 year olds with the odd older one dropped in. Their rise is no mystery, and they can't plead a case to be underdogs.
  2. Exactly right. We were shite last season and we've given loads of games to 9 players who are u21. Arsenal haven't given a minute to a single u21 player. Go on then lads, go be the challenger.
  3. Steady on, it's Everton at the Etihad. I don't think anyone, anywhere, expected City to drop points. But also this is why I don't understand the Alonso argument for manager. If it's so bad, so pointless, then why bother. I mean, just get Gerrard in, circle the wagons, and we'll have a good time in our own little world.
  4. Some WSL defenders would have made a better go of dealing with that. Branthwaite was fucking awful.
  5. I'd rather come 16th with Gerrard than come 8th with Alonso or Amorim. Suck it up you quegs.
  6. Nah, he's perfect. We wouldn't give up on him like Chelsea gave fans gave up on Lampard. He's got decent experience, he's interested in youth development, he's a great presence, and he'd have Klopp on the phone. I'd have him ahead of anyone else out there now.
  7. Do you know what. I'd give it Gerrard and I'd have a word with Lijnders to stay another year as his assistant.
  8. Start fast, fuck defending, we can outscore these even if we concede 3.
  9. If he does come I don't trust Xabi to stick around for long and it's been 15 years since he lived here so we may be overblowing his affinity for the club. We know he likes us less than paying tax. He isn't going to out-think Guardiola and win us the title. The trick is to make your players apply more effort and die for the badge, then we can put a finger on the scales in our favour. When Klopp goes we won't miss his tactics, we'll miss the massive presence he has. That's what we need to replace.
  10. Becker Gomez Van Dijk Konate Robbo Macca Endo Szoboszlai Salah Nunez Jota Still think Jones isn't quite physically assertive enough to start ahead of those 3.
  11. The plan remains the plan, to qualify for the CL group stage. If we get 20 points out of 24 available between now and 3 April then we can talk about a title push. if we get 23 points out of the 45 available between now and season end then we can still be happy with our season. Stop beating yourselves up, it's not logical to presume we can fairly match a team that's cheated it's way to such a strong squad.
  12. I find it hard to see what all the fuss was about in the first place to be honest. Like you say, he has no pace, and he's never had pace, but in the modern game pace is essential in an attacker, so why was he ever lauded as an exciting attacker? Ok, but what about as a 10? Well, I don't consider him to have quick feet either, or a killer pass, or a fruity skills, or strength to hold it up, so it doesn't look like he's a 10 either. But yes he's a good lad and works hard, although his he's not even intuitively good at closing down or positioning. It's a head-scratcher really.
  13. I'm not going to throw anyone under the bus for us being top of the league still, but Elliott is a weird fish in terms of playing style and if I was him I'd be nervous about a new manager coming in this summer. Him and Carvalho is probably £50m combined sale value, and our academy is producing enough homegrown for squad depth now, I think he's getting sold. For context, yes he's 20, but he's also 8 appearances short of 100 for the club. The highlight reel is niche.
  14. Re-read what you wrote and ask yourself why WE should crawl over broken glass and resort to self-loathing just to validate the accomplishments of sports history's worst cheaters. Losing to City isn't a source of shame. It's probable. It's likely. It's logical. Stop flogging us to death for 'failing' to keep them at bay through fair means.
  15. Suggest some of you go take a walk and listen to some Curtis Stigers. It's a shame we can't meet Arsenal again this season, but that's because they've been knocked out of both domestic cups. Let them have their minute in the sun.
  16. It'll be painted as a disaster by the London sports media but the reality is that Nunez and Szoboszlai's injuries were a step too far for us after we've pushed the limit with these players in December and January. We also got heavy knocks against Chelsea, and a few today, so even the fit ones like Jota and MacAllister are limping now. Thankfully we can regroup the players back in Liverpool now for the next 13 days, only a home game v Burnley in that period, and we can give some rest to the likes of Gomez, Macca, Jones, Nunez, Jota, Van Dijk, and Konate can't play until Brentford on the 17th. We can use Burnley to get more minutes into Robbo, Thiago, Trent, Elliott, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch and maybe Tsimikas, and we welcome back Endo and Salah. City are our concern, Arsenal are not.
  17. Telly off. Fucking nonsense from Alisson now. Just smile boys, these aren't a serious team, and this is a game too far for us with a half fit squad.
  18. We act like we've never played against a quick winger before. It's definitely a system killer for us, like Vinicious Jr enjoys playing against us. In future I'd be tempted to try 3 at the back against it.
  19. We could lose to Arsenal today and the title would still come down to us and City, especially that game on 12 March. These are Arsenal's remaining league fixtures: West Ham A Burnley A Newcastle H Sheff Utd A Brentford H Chelsea H City A Luton H Brighton A Villa H Wolves A Spurs A Bournemouth H United A Everton H
  20. He can't be at a better club to help him through this. Tomorrow's for you lad.
