Been very impressed by this lad this WC EDIT EC - wrong year :). Has the sort of game that would adapt very well in England too. Think he's better in a 442 than he would be in our formation but happy to be proved wrong. A Rafa type player who works hard and covers more ground than almost any other player with an eye for defence as-well-as attack but without much trickery or flare. A bit like an intelligent version of Riise. I think he'd work really well in a 4-4-2 in front of an overlapping full-back but I'm not sure about instead of Kuyt or Babel. Kuyt has been magic in that position since the first Arsenal game (including the EC) anyway. A good "option" for Rafa maybe.

A bit young to remember Kenny in his pomp. Fowler remains my alltime favourite LFC player but I think now Stevie has taken the mantle of the best player who's career I have seen all of. In terms of talent, Torres is up there with the very best but he has a lot to do to earn a place in the higher echelons of Liverpool greats.

I saw him for all of 10 mintes against the Italians - here's my scouting report: All the attributes to be a top player - lightning fast and likes a shot from range. Crosses a bit like riise - i.e. punt it into the box as hard and as straight as possible. Rash will like him as he does lots of stepovers. Needs some work but Rafa has done some good work on Babel so who knows?

Yeah, interesting one this. Now you see, I don't know exactly how these things work, say a new lighter ball comes in, does that mean that all official balls used the world over after that point for official competition will be at least as light as that and everything gets progressively lighter, or do we just go back to using "normal" regulation balls for most competitions after the tournament allowing someone else to make an even lighter ball for the next world cup but also just using it for the tournament's duration? I must say, it's so easy to see through the reason for making lighter balls - basically, some cunt like blatter thinks it will make football even more exiting and the tournament will be hailed as one of the best ever because of allt he long range screamers and he'll get even more tv bribery money next year as a result. The thing is that notion is at best short sighted and at worst plain wrong. One of the things I've always said that makes american sports shite is that there's generally too much scoring - e.g. basketball where there's no real thrill in a basket going in because it happens most times teams go forward. Scoring should be somethign that happens on average once or twice a match so that it's still a creschendo when it does and that is part of why football is brilliant. A 30 yard screamer should be something that you see rarely and fromthe best players, not a 50:50 shot for every journeyman hacker from anywhere inside the opposition's half as Blatter would probably like (note - I'm not even sure Blatter made the choice of ball for this tournament but he's a cunt so I'm blaming him). If I could score Gerrard-esque goals then I wouldn't get so much pleasure from watching him do it. As regards this ball, I must say, in the past I haven't noticed big differences in tournament balls but in this one - for once - it is clear. It reminds me of those shitty balls you can buy at beach resorts. You see guys shooting from outside the box with no backlift and the ball is still heading top corner not dribbling towards the keeper as it should be - there was one of these last night by russia but I'm sorry I can't remember which player - also a russian player volleyed the ball clear of his own area last night and it ended up bouncing level with the penalty area on the opposite touch line of the opposition's half - now that isn't normal! This thread is a long way out of context too, although I'm not going to trawl thorugh it again, I remember actively disagreeing that the yanks had - at the time when it was posted - done enough to prove themselves to be bad owners and that they needed time before we could judge them. I stand by that opinion at the time, and for some time afterwards (EDIT - the signing of Torres etc..), I seem to remember even the Count publicly said he might have been being overly critical of the yanks at the time! Eventually however it turned out that the Count's hunch was right and of course I'll do anything in my power to get those bastards out, so I seriously hope you're not calling me an apologist. Well yeah, but we're not going to get rid of the yanks acting alone. To be honest I usually get dead excited opening the new shirt over summer as I'm so starved of anything LFC that it gives me a real buzz. If everyone on here think's it's fine then that's probably what I'll do but I'd prefer to not get any KFS style burning shenanegans going on from some of our more politicised supporters and to be honest, I'd like to do the right thing by the club too. I think a lot of it does genuinely depend on how it looks to other people. If people assume that cos Im wearing the new shirt I couldn't give a shit about the yanks and am some armchair cockney twat then I'd sooner not bother.

I preordered the new shirt before I knew anything about the boycott and it arrived last week. I haven't opened the packaging yet at all.
