  1. Seriously watch it again, the player whose shirt he was pulling after was in the next zone to him, and was being marked. And regardless of that he wasnt watching when the ball was played which was why he reacted slowly. Players might hate it, but it served us well since the initial shitfest when we first introduced it. As UEM says though it isnt working as well this season, either through new additions not being as used to it or due to our defensive leader Carra not having the best of seasons - I dont know, but I can see why we persist as up until this season I've always felt more secure defending set pieces than I have done previously man to man. With a name like old skool I thought you'd remember us often marking zonally back in the 80s as well - didnt do us any harm back then?
  2. If Skrtel wasnt so busy trying to get hold of the Man City players shirt that passed him, he'd have been quicker to react to the corner and could have comfortably challenged for the ball with Adabayor - 'watch it on the replay tonight' - (sorry couldnt resist the sarcasm)
  3. Thats pretty much my opinion on that situation, but obviously put accross much more eliquently than I could ever manage. Newspaper headline after headline about a bit of expenses fiddling, (the ironly being the journalists and newspapers arent exactly the role models we want) which takes the focus of the real issues the country is facing. The whole thing is pointless to the extreme, the rules that guided the MPs were lax and they took advantage, as people are liable to do in most walks of life. The rules have now been tightened, we now all know whether are own MPs are as moralistic as we would like, and if not we dont vote for them - that should be the end of the story. But the fact that Stephen Fry said it, doesnt mean thats a reason to dislike the man, surely he's entitled to an opinion like the rest of us?
  4. If you are keeping gold fish I wouldnt bother with too many other fish, as they'll keep growing until they 'fill' (not literally) the tank. Get some bottom feeder like loaches to help keep the tank clean. If, however, you have a heater in there, sack the goldfish off, buy a few catfish, 2 or 3 male guppies, and about 5/6 female guppies, and you'll never have to worry about buying fish again - after 2-3 months your tank will be full of guppies (only grow to about 5cm max)
  5. Can you have a think about the following? • If I am a bully why would I have chosen John, one of the most respected on here to target? Oh and feel free to check any of my previous posts, I think you’ll find I’ve never belittled anyone, or lowered myself to name calling – some of the traits of an internet bully – again you may want to check out your own attitude to me • I didn’t tell John what he could and couldn’t do, I offered my opinion on something he wrote on a public forum, and by posting on a forum you invite that feedback whether it be negative or positive that’s how it works. And John, ‘the victim’ as you portray him, has responded publicly and privately to me on this subject, and has no doubts about my intentions, even if he thinks I went the wrong way about it • If you can’t see how a thread which questions our decision to sell or not sell a player, could possibly lead to the managers responsibility in the decision being brought into question, then you have not done much browsing on this forum for the last 4 months. I stand by my opinion that the negativity on these boards at the moment, is due to those on both sides of the Rafa debate bringing it into every thread • Have you considered you may have been wrong in your assumptions, and assessment of me – someone you never met, and probably only read a handful of posts from? I’d like you to have a read of any of my previous posts here and on the GF before passing judgement on me. If you want to discuss this rationally, can you take it to PM as this will just be boring the tits of anyone else reading it now.
  6. Do you self a favour Barry and stop the name calling, you're making yourself look foolish. I'm not entering into this any more, and I've taken it up with John by PM who is taking this much more rationally than you have. The last thing I wanted to was be drawn into the petty sniping my original post alluded to, as to be honest I have better things to do with my time, and would appreciate it if this would be the end of this. Andy (not some faceless twat/ cunt / retard)
  7. So anyone that doesnt agree with you is a twat, great and you called me sanctimonious. Good to see you are so open to debate. Again you seem more than capable of throwing a few cunts and twats in a sentence, but obviously have difficulties reading. I find myself repeating myself for your benefit. "It wasnt just John I was aiming it at". It was for anyone that is going to post a thread, that so obviously is going to polarise opinion. There are enough Rafa threads on this forum, without adding more. I never said John wasnt entitled to his opinion, just that maybe it might have been a more prudent decision to put it one of the existing threads. Seriously what do you think another potential Rafa debate brings to this forum?
  8. John, after reading back what I wrote last night, apologies about the Rashid comment, as that was over the top. As I pointed out in my post last night this was not soley directed at you, but the whole thing just came at the frustation of seeing another thread that was likely to go down the same road. The bit in bold is totally valid, but how likely are we to get that answer or even reasoned debate, about anything relating to Rafa, on here at the moment? As for the bit in bold
  9. I think you might want to read what you just wrote again. As for the rest did you fully read my post? I didnt say anything negative about John, who incidently didnt seem to take it as personal as you did, and my last couple of sentences I said that there were as many offenders on either side of the Rafa debate. And my main point was that this could have been tagged onto one of the other Rafa is God/ Shit threads quite easily. I come onto the forum looking for a bit of banter and or info about the reds, yet every thread at the moment disintergrates into a slanging match about the manager. This website as far as I'm aware generates Dave's wages, and as such the negativity here at the moment could effect his living, something I'm sure none of us want, but as I said I know lads that dont come on here anymore because of the non stop bickering. You also said that John is free to post whatever he wants as he is a good member of this forum, but apparently I am not, and as such am not able to post my own opinion? Oh and seeing as you dont know me I'd prefer if you'd refrain from the name calling.
  10. Should have really put all this in one post, but anyway. John, its clear to all you dont like the manager, and you are not alone in that respect as others on here jump on threads like this to put the boot in, as will others jumping to his defence. But by continually starting threads like this you are helping to bring this forum down in my opinion. You know full well where this thread is going and its not really gonna be about the merits of Dossena as afootballer. Its taken me a while to write this so I'm guessing its already gone down the road I expect. You are an articulate poster, and argue your points well, but that in itself doesnt make you right, and by continually sharing your opinion on Rafa you are only really doing the same thing Rashid was guilty of. New threads like this dont do the forum any favours, as it'll just bring out all the pro and anti Rafa brigades. Couldn't this just have been tagged on to one of the existing Rafa threads? My opinion will probably be ignored by most on here, as I dont post often enough in the FF, but its a shame to see a forum I started lurking on 5/6 years ago, and joined 4 years ago to degenerate basically into 2 camps, whose opinions dont really represent any of the Liverpool fans I know, as most of them believe there to be another option somewhere in the middle. It doesnt put the site in a good light, and I know for a fact has turned some of my mates away from coming here any more. Oh, and although I have directed this at John, as he started this thread, he is not alone and there are those either side of the Rafa devide who are just as resposible as I have accused John of being.
  11. Or possibly we'd set a figure they never matched, who knows maybe £5? Lots of potential reasons it might not have gone through, I'm sure none of us know why?
  12. Maybe the money wasnt going to be available to reinvest in the team, and as such an overweight Italian international is better than nothing..... just.
  13. I can see all their posts and will vouch for their existence (not that this counts for everything as I'll probably be accused of not being real next), they are not phantom accounts - Woo you've opened a big can of worms now! Oh and I voted bear cos it'd slice and dice that hippo.
  14. Not turning this into a Rafa rights and wrongs debate, we are in a bad run, we are making mistakes. But cant imagine a British coach having the death of his father brought into an article, questioning his ability to connect with his players. Cant imagine another British managers spending so innacurately reported over and over, without another paper questioning it. And if you think its just the mail, wait until the world cup, and then we'll see most of the journalists true colours, especially if we play Germany or Argentina - I'm sure I havent been imaging the headlines I've seen in previous world and european cups.
  15. I'd say pretty much them all! Top jobs go to foriegner cos the standard is generally low with British managers, probably as until the last 10 years we were reluctant to take on board lessons from continental football, such as lifestyle / diet. And as such i'd expect the next wave of British managers that do get a chance to be more successful, as they will have played under the newer regimes, and be more open and successful at incorporating them in their own management. The main failing of British managers currently, as I see it, is they are basically man manager and motivators, but are unable to match the tactical side of the game at the top level. Even that cunt up the M62 still gets torn apart tactically in Europe, and the only the fact the ability level of his individual players is higher quality, compensates for this. Gone off point now, but basically what I was trying to say was that a British manager and a foriegn manager doing the same job to the same level, then the foriegn manager is likely to get more abuse in the press when things go wrong. Whether this is due to this being a xenophobic country at heart, or just because the LMA is more likely to jump to the defence of one of its own, which could effect the press's relationship with more than one manger, I dont know. But personally I dont think there is any doubt, that if Rafa was called Ray Benson, he wouldn't have had such a one eyed portrail (Sp) in the press.
  16. Sorry but that first bit is wrong,as the English press were ridiculing Ranieri way before Morrhino came to the scene, do you not remeber all the ' at least his English is getting' bollocks at the time? Nearer the end of his time, the press were towing Abramabollix's line to get Mourhino in, but not early on. Dont quite get your point on Vialli and Gullit?
  17. Steve McClaren took the poison chalice, that no-one will ever be 'good enough' for until England win the world cup, they even hounded out Bobby Robson, and as such should be seen as an exception. And as for Fat Sam the fans turned on him first, as they didnt want him in the first place (quite rightly as he is a shit manager, with even shitter 'tactics'), and the press followed suit, but certainly not with the same level of vitriol that managers such as Rafa, Ramos, Ranieri, Scolachi, Martin Jol and earlier Christain Gross suffered.
  18. Known as the Tinkerman, his accent and inability to speak English when he first arrived ridiculed, and the fact that stories apart his impending departure months before he left - no, thats not a whitchhunt is it? Mourhino (who I think is a twat), was incredibly successful during his first few years, but once the press got the opportunity to but the boot in on him they couldnt wait. English press is embarressingly xenophobic, you dont get the same stories about Moyes sitting a few point above relegation zone, and even now with Brown, set to go, the nature of the stories are not as personal or agressive. So smokescreen? No. A jounalist writing something against the grain, and true. Yes.
  19. Not really sure when bringing the top players of a club in line with others in their profession, should effect the spending power of a club of our size and stature. Maybe we should pay them less and hope they stay out of misguided loyalty while the owners rake in the cash, or even let them go into the last 2 years of their contracts so they lose value if we end up having to sell them - thats worked well in the past as well. This is genuinely the first time I've heard of any club having to restrict its transfer policy based on improving contracts for existing players, especially a club that is focusing off field on its marketing strategies, with whose improvements should be able to cover any pay rises for the players its basing those marketing strategies on.
  20. Bit early to tell after less that a third of the league season gone would be my answer to that, and we've come through worse positions in CL as well.
  21. Interesting, I didnt know that, but even so Dave, the money spent over last summer doesnt get close to what came back in, which was my original point a few pages ago, that the there wasnt sufficient investment over the summer, taking into account the players out, to realistically challenge again this year. And that is something Rafa is certainly not responsible for regardless of any selection / tactical errors since.
  22. Anny, this has already been covered, he spent about £10mil on those 2 players, gained £30m for our kingpin, without taking into account what we got back for Keane. Don't want to go down the net spend road but its clear he did not get to spend that Keane money.
  23. Maybe, but nobody has a devine right to win the league or any other trophey, regardless of our pedigree, and surely being in the mix at the end of the season should be a realistic target and assessment of a sucessful season? And by doing this consistently the tropheys would come
  24. I think we can agree we struggled for attacking options when Keane was here aswell. Keane and Dossena were bad buys, but wouldnt it have been nice if Rafa had at least been given the money we got back off Keane plus a little bit more to address that problem of attacking options? rather than it being used to balance the repayments.
