A Few Thoughts from the Match: Liverpool 4 Arsenal 0

He wont grab the headlines but really impressed with Gomez-is Clyne now 3rd choice right back?! -
Why Mario has to go - now (ESPN article)
longtimered replied to tlw content's topic in FF - Football Forum
He's a signing I never understood at the time and he's shown even less than I expected! Apart from questionable ability and attitude why we never signed someone to fit our style of play beggars belief. -
Although our remaining away games look ok we cant get ahead of ourselves-its just the next games to focus on getting the right attitude, preparation and intensity.

Will we sign anyone between now and the last transfer day?
longtimered replied to WhiskeyJar's topic in FF - Football Forum
You have to assume a signing will be made-we cant have the same as last year.If nothing happens the manager should quit if he has anything about him.- 26 replies

Think I saw him play up front, midfield, fullback and centre back.He was a hell of a player-strangely probably centreback could have been his best postion but not able to dislodge Tommy Smith or Ron Yeats. Whilst people recall his goal on one leg versus Celtic does anyone else remember a wonder strike against Juventus in one of the earlier rounds the same season. If its on video anywhere well worth a look.

Can you confirm the BBC time and date-I can see the ITV programme but not hte other channel. -
It isnt about the merits of a particular player or the quality of the previous management. Its about agreeing a strategy with the manager who plays his part then hanging him out to dry by not implementing the other side of the deal.

Isnt it possible to stop threads like this getting started. It illustrates why so many people visit and post here less and less.

The point about Benitez is he can only work with himself because he feels he is always going to do it better than anyone else.He falls out with everyone he works with over time. This isnt anti Rafa-just a comment. We did used to moan at Rafa if we were out the title race by January not the race for 4th at that stage of the season! If he is an option it is not in partnership.

1965 and went with a mate even tho we had no tickets.Got them from a tout who was beat up in wembley way;it was commonplace in those days to see touts relatively unprotected. Can still see St John's winning header to this day and Willie Stevenson's part in the first goal. The cup final was the glamour event of the whole season at that time. The homecoming was as memorable as the game itself- as was the Inter Milan game when the cup was taken round before kick off.

There is no issue right this minute;time to reflect at season's end.Nevertheless the one attribute you associate with Kenny is man management/pulling together etc but we are seeing too much casualness, unmotivation ,lack of intensity and mental strength ,failure to achieve potential etc.Its extremely worryring and not only do I not know the answer but I'm not convinced-more worringly-that Kenny doesnt either.

Its the lack of mental toughness that really worries me and has for some time.I wonder if this aspect plays any part in our appraisal of players in the transfer market-it doesnt't look like it with most recent arrivals irrespective of any debate about their technical merits. We are so fragile when something goes against us-we just look as if we want to optimistically limp to the finish line. I dont know the answer and more worringly dont know whether our management do either.

RE Suarez: Is it time for the club to go shit or bust?
longtimered replied to Randy Marsh's topic in FF - Football Forum
I think its time that Luis demonstrates how he values the supoort that Kenny has given him.He totally undermined his manager today. If there was anything to be said the club shoulld have done it last year. -
Andy Carroll -" Liverpool willing to sell "

If anyone would pay over £20m I'd be amazed. -
As someone who was at Hillsborough I just hope any information which allows the full truth to be given to the families is made available as soon as possible.Any person who sought to bury the truth shpold be made accountable. The mud slinging and personal insults on this thread remind me why this site has deteriorated. How some people see this as a fitting input into a Hillsborough related thread isbeyond me.

All fair points.Clubs with money have won things since I started watching back in the 50's.(thats why Everton were the top club in the city then!)It used to be 80/90% of the time tho not 100%.Its also fair to say that a club cant break thro now by good management -e.g Notts Forest,Leeds,Ipswich in days gone by. The thing I dont like now is that the game is no longer for the "ordinary" fan -nor are the players in the main anyone that you can identify with.
-
There is another arguement. We didnt moan about money in the game when we were the club who had it-signing players like Beardsley,Barnes,Lawrenson etc.Clubs have often been rich men's playthings-but it used to be local businessmen. The relative wealth we had was wasted by Souness and subsequently Moores didnt run the club properly at a time when football changed into a business.Despite the entry of Chelsea and City our biggest rivals at Old Trafford have shown good management and good players are still key over the long term.

I've seen most of Shelvey's time on the pitch since he joined and honestly dont understand what his talent is meant to be tho I know he was/is highly rated. He certainly doesnt value possession highly and is quite lazy at times in tracking back.

Personal Views on why the King is the King?
longtimered replied to Red Jersey's topic in FF - Football Forum
Apart from being arguably the our greatest ever player-only Billy Liddell can compete-his support of the families affected by Hillsbro sets him apart.Steering the club thro that tragedy is unique. Not a bad track record as manager either! -
Having been at both Heysel and Hillsbrough then i know neither tragedy would have occured in all seater stadiums. How many people who vote yes to standing were at either or both.
