  1. Remember thinking he looked very good a couple of years ago at Inter but haven't heard a thing about him since.
  2. I totally agree, historically we are much bigger than Gala. But what are we today? 7th in the league 20+ points off the top and 7 off the top 4 with trips to the Emirates and Etihad looming having not beaten a top half side all season. We have been outside the top 6 since 2009. We have an exciting squad full of potential and an absolute gem in Luis Suarez ( who as pointed out by SG yesterday , could well be off this summer if we once again finish outside the CL). Those are the black and white facts of our situation. I'm hopeful for the future but that's all it is. I've liked a lot of our work but equally there are areas which concern me. Instead of Ayre waffling on about our ambition I'd like to see some evidence of it. I'd like to see real progress on Anfield and a move to finally increase capacity. I'd like to see us target some experienced attacking quality to compliment the youth. As Luis said, young players win matches, experienced players win titles. Sneijder would have fitted the bill but we wouldn't pay what Gala will pay for him. Fair enough, but you certainly can't blame him or criticise his move. He is 28, this is the last big move of his career and currently we represent a risk to any top player looking for success at the top of the game. If he is picking up 200k a week in Italy why should he drop his wages by 60/70% to come to a mid table / Europa club in Englabd regardless of our history?
  3. How can not signing for us (if we were ever a realistic option) and signing for Gala be an unambitious move? Don't believe the Sky "best league in the world" hype bollocks. He is signing for a club in latter stages of the CL. Gala are a huge club. The Premier League isn't the be all and end all, the English Champions were dumped out bottom of their Champions League group and the European Champions couldn't even make this seasons knock out stage. If you take away our history and judge us on our merits we are currently no bigger than an Everton or Spurs. It's all very well hearing about FSG and Ayre's big 'project' ideas but until we see some substance to that its nothing more than good PR. If you're a top European player with CL clubs offering you a contract then you're not going to chose today's Liverpool. The only way to sign these players is to pay through the nose, which we're not willing to do. Sad but true. If the club starts showing tangible signs of that ambitious project they talk about then that may change but until then we need to get used to shopping in Asda instead of Harrods.
  4. I do laugh when people suggest we don't need a player like him. He is proven world class talent. We have been out of the Champions League for 3years now. We are a mid table / Europa league side at best on current form. Lets not kid ourselves here, that is the level we are at and have been at since 2009. Sneijder is world class and would walk in to our side. He is a champion. If he is available then it's ano brainer. If he has gone to Gala for money then fair enough, good luck to the lad. With the wages we've shifted off the bill we should have be in a position to offer him an attractive package. If this was just a pathetic attempt to put the shits up Blackpool for fucking Ince or a blueshite-esque publicity stunt to appease supporters then I'm more than a bit concerned. Ince or Sneijder, it's not even a contest.
  5. "I'd like nothing more than to see Wesley Sneijder in a red shirt"
  6. All I can fathom from that tweet is that Dean Windass and some ex footballers have been shagging some badgers. What's that got to do with Southampton?
  7. Can't disagree with a lot of the negative observations about his time here. However if he was afforded the same chances Joe Allen has been given then it may have been a different story.
  8. I'd also like our transfer policy to stretch beyond British players / Players the manager has already worked with at a previous club. Lets see a bit of imagination instead of a scouting team that seemingly conducts most of its business between 10.30 - midnight on a Saturday when MOTD is on.
  9. You may be right about Dempsey. However the 'policy' to me goes out the window when they were willing to swap him for a promising English u21 international in Henderson. Was it about value? Age? Or are they just skint and couldn't afford to pay it? He hasn't answered why Carroll was allowed to leave when the signing of a replacement was now clearly far from certain at the time. With all the millions shifted out the club in wages, why is 12m Daniel Sturridge seemingly the limit of what we can spend at the end of last window and now this month?
  10. Can't copy as I'm on a phone but there's an interview with Ayre in the Echo today. Basically seemed to say that if we signed Dempsey we wouldn't have been able to sign Sturridge this window. Says we will only sign players who we see value in, but i worry because it sounds more to me like we're skint and the 'value' issue will be a convenient cop out for not making the signings we need.
  11. The 1-4 was a fantastic performance, sadly it's probably the only one in about 12 years.
  12. Infuriating that. If we actually played them from the off instead of shitting ourselves for an hour until they went 2 up, we would have comfortably taken atleast a point today. Poor team selection and poor set up from the manager. Suarez was totally isolated until Sturridge came on. Everyone knows you can get at that Manc side so why the fuck didn't we bother? Rodgers fucked up there. Another pathetic result at Old Trafford.
  13. That Real Madrid home match in 2009 was one or the best striking performances Ive ever seen. I remember one incident in the first half when the ball was played in to him back to goal, he Cruyf turned on a sixpence through Cannavaro's legs, an unbelievable piece or skill which left one of the best defenders in the world absolutely dumbstruck. He gave Cassilas the eyes, sent him the wrong way and only a flick off the lace of Iker's boot prevented one of the best goals Liverpool have ever scored. The lad was incredible for us for the majority of his time here. It killed me to see him leave and but for the immediate impact of Suarez it would have hurt a lot more. I'm just gutted those two never got to play together in a red shirt because I firmly believe if he'd of just given it another few months he'd never of left after playing a few games with Luis. Whilst a massive part of me thinks Fuck him, I still reckon that deep down I'd be absolutely fucking delighted if he was to come back. It will never happen though.
  14. Another one of those games where I could easily see us turning them over, whilst equally I wouldn't be surprised if the Mancs dicked us by 3 or 4. We need the first goal.
  15. Gutted about this. Heard so many great things about the lad from his Dortmund days and would really have liked to have seen if he could reproduce that for us. Baffled as to why he featured so little but obviously there are reasons which we'll probably never find out about. The broken nose came at a bad time to. Anyway, always spoke respectfully about the club and wish him all the best back at his home club. Cracking move for him. For me he goes with a regret that we never got to see the player that everyone believes he can be.
  16. Can't post the links off my phone but tomorrow's back pages are fucking scandalous. That old cunt has called Suarez fit to burn by all accounts, said Webb needs to be prepared for his cheating. It's like clockwork, he does it before every match, piles the pressure on his self appointed referee. Nailed on Suarez won't get a kick now and Webb will be all over him. He's also stoking up the hostilities in the stands by making comments like this. I fucking despise the poisonous malignant old cunt.
  17. Fair to say on current evidence last summers transfer dealings are on form with the disastrous dealings of the past few years. Sahin gone, Assaidi invisible, Borrini crocked for 3months and Joe Allen slipping right off the boil after a good start.
  18. @WillWatt: Tom Ince has NOT signed for Liverpool. There is no truth whatsoever in the stories saying he has. Blackpool journo so pretty reliable.
  19. Knowing us it was probably closer to 30million. 20 is probably the "save face in the media" figure.
  20. Honestly, quite passionate in their defence of him. Over the course of the morning they've had Peter Reid and Darren Lewis from the Mirror on who also defended him, as well as Alan Brazil. The only person to say he should have made a stand was that cock Ronnie Irani.
  21. Talksport on in work this morning, Keys and Grey have just said they cannot believe the papers today and its all absolutely disgusting. Totally defended Luis and said if this was any other player it wouldn't be mentioned. Also hammered Jon Champion for his "cheat" comments. Quite refreshing to hear.
