  1. Agreed, they really aren't any great shakes either which is the saddening thing. But I cannot remember the last time we won a 'hard' game, one we wouldn't necessarily be reasonably expected to win. We haven't beat any of the top sides this season, in the second half of last season I think the only one was Chelsea in the half arsed cup final hangover. I don't see us bucking the trend tonight.
  2. Not confident at all. A draw wouldn't surprise me but I could quite easily see us getting turned over by 2 or 3.
  3. Nightcat, agree with a few of the points you're making. Your post to me highlights the reason why ultimately he should be towards the apex of our attack and not in a central position were the role is disciplined. Push him up the pitch, get him in and around the box so he hasn't got to play hundreds of 5 or ten yard passed a match, his focus is on putting the ball in the net or making the final pass that will enable someone else to do so.
  4. Listening to it now. Agree on many of the Gerrard points. For me we are totally wasting him in the current position. He has been one our biggest attacking threat throughout his career. In the team we have now with so little attacking options Suarez apart, I cannot for the life of me see why Brendan persists using him in a defensive position when really we should be pushing him up as close to Suarez and the opponents goal as possible. The job he is currently doing in midfield could comfortably be done by Henderson/Sahin/Shelvey. Remove all defensive burdens from him, relieve of him doing the donkey work and pointless running in the middle, and put him in areas of the pitch where he can hurt the opposition. His best seasons for us have been in advanced areas, never at CM. it's an absolute no brainier for me. I like BR but I can't understand why the hell he hasn't addressed this issue yet.
  5. Joseph Barton ‏@Joey7Barton Steve MaClaren eat your heart out... Foot Mercato - news … Joseph Barton ‏@Joey7Barton In my defence, it is very difficult to do a press conference in Scouse for a room full of French journalists. The alternative is to speak... 6. Some of the accents in it are horrific. Also, lost all respect for the so called red Steven Graham when he saw no problem in posing with Sun film awards in his hand.
  7. In my case, and probably most others, it isn't a case of actively wanting Chelsea to do well. I just wouldn't be as disgusted as I usually am if they were to achieve success. They are an utter cunt of a club and their choice of manager won't change that. I can't say I really understand the viewpoint that you and quite a few others hold though with regards to Rafa taking the Chelsea job. He was unfairly sacked by Liverpool, and for two years now he has been out of work. He'd have crawled over broken glass all the way from Caldy to Anfield last summer to take the Liverpool job again. His family still remain on Merseyside two years after him losing his job, it's their home and they have given a hell of a lot to the area through their charity and generosity. I live on the Wirral and the few people I have spoken to who have had dealings with him and his family have nothing but good to say about them. His love of the club and the area is genuine. But I wonder what people expect him to do for the rest of his life. Sit and wait by the telephone in the hope that one day John Henry gives him a call to come and finish the job he started? He spent all last summer doing that. Fuck football management off altogether and get on the season ticket waiting list? He is a football manager, one who has proven himself at the highest level. He has been offered a job at the European Champions, with a squad full of top class players at his disposal and probably a few quid to spend in January, with a fighting chance of lifting trophies and being successful. He has been out of work for two years and he will be paid handsomely for his services. It is an absolute no brainer. The romance and loyalty element doesnt even come in to it. The man still loves Liverpool and his emotional tie and loyalty will always be at this club, but as a professional he cannot wait forever. His decision doesn't change anything for me and I still idolise the man for the best 5 years of my life he gave me following the club.
  8. I hate the thought of Chelsea winning a thing, but I'd be delighted to see Rafa achieve success. As a Liverpool supporter who still holds Rafa in the highest regard, it's just a shit situation really. In short, I'd say City but if it was Chelsea I probably wouldn't be as traumatised as I usually am when they're successful as a part of me would be happy to see Rafa doing well for himself.
  9. I think January is going to be the making of them one way or another. They cannot hide behind the "there's no value in the January market' line because numerous clubs have proven that to be absolute rubbish, ourselves included when signing Luis Suarez. If they fail to back us and neglect substantially reinforcing our attacking options after the months of suggestions that we were going to do serious business, I think a lot of fans, myself included , will stop giving them the already generous benefit of the doubt that they're being afforded.
  10. I take your point but for me regarding Young Boys as anything other than European minnows just highlights my initial point, which is how far our standards and expectations have fallen in the past three seasons. A few years back, failing to beat Chelsea at home in a Champions League knockout match was seen as a bad result. Drawing against West Ham to go top of the league was seen as a bad result. Look at us now. Young Boys, Swansea, Udinese, Stoke, Norwich, Blackpool, Wolves, Sunderland, Northampton Town, all sides who've taken results from Anfield in the past few years. I could go on and list a load more. It stinks, and the fact that we have came to accept it now, and make excuses for it is even worse. I'm not blaming BR as it goes beyond him, but lets not kid ourself here and pretend results like last night are anything more than unacceptable for Liverpool football club. I was stood there last night without an ounce of excitement or anticipation because all it does is hammer home just how far we have fallen, from the days when not progressing beyond the Champions League quarter finals was seen as a bad season. It's depressing.
  11. We are making the same mistakes week after week. Lets put this in to perspective here. Young Boys are absolute no marks and like numerous no marks who've preceded them in recent times they leave Anfield with a result. It's disgraceful how far our standards have fallen and even more disgraceful is the fact that not one Liverpool fan will be surprised by that tonight. Infact, I now expect it. Same old story. A few nice pretty patches of play ultimately undone by an inherent naivity and total lack of intelligence and composure. A Rafa or even a Houllier side would have closed that game out at 2-1. Not us, we ridiculously flood forward in numbers and leave ourselves short at the back when there is absolutely no need to do so with the tie won and qualification in the bag. It's fucking disgraceful, and look at us now. We have to send a full squad out to Italy and even if we do win we could well crash out anyway. And if we do we deserve all we get. I'm disgusted with that. Sick of going to Anfielf and watching absolute SHITE do a job on us on an almost weekly basis. 3 years ago we were dismantling Real Madrid in the Champions League. Fucking hell look at us now. One million miles away from those days, and it's shit.

  13. Ill be honest I would have been delighted if we bombed him out at the earliest opportunity. Think he has stunk for the best part of 12months now. However, the past few weeks he has been in brilliant form and playing much better than I thought he was capable of. It sounds like Brendan has given him a rocket and probably told him that he is off if he doesn't sort himself out, and to be fair to the lad he has reacted brilliantly to that. He was outstanding yesterday. Fair play, happy to be proven wrong on him, maybe there is a real player in there.
  14. EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool confirm departure of communications director Jen Chang Exclusive By Alex Miller 16 November 2012 Liverpool’s communications director Jen Chang has left the club, an LFC spokesman has confirmed to Sportingintelligence. Chang was recently involved in a controversial meeting with a Liverpool fan who had run a spoof Twitter account. That incident led to the fan, Sean Cummins, receiving an apology (link here). Liverpool did not specifically link Chang’s departure to that incident. But a spokesman said: “I can confirm Jen Chang has left Liverpool football club by mutual consent and has returned to the United States for family reasons.”
  15. Seriously why on earth wouldn't the club be hammering at Raheem's door to get a contract agreed and ready to sign? Don't see any logical reason for them pissing about and letting this drag on. The lad is vital to us now, a massive part of our future. If we don't pay him someone else will. If Barret's article is true then I am staggered beyond belief. A new level of incompetence from the clubs shambolic heirarchy.

  17. Sounds like a lovely lad. Fucking arsehole. I've been in some states in my time but I fail to see how anyone can think they can behave like that no matter how twatted you are. Lock up the prick.
  18. BR can only work with what he has at his disposal. We are drawing a lot of games, because as everyone in football knows our attacking options are extremely limited. Until that issue is addressed, and addressed seriously with substantial funds and not a half arsed quick fix solution, then expect to see more of the same; plenty of possession, nice attractive football, but minimal penetration and plenty of draws. It's far too early to judge BR.
  19. Cannot remember the last time we won a match without absolutely battering the opposition in the process. When did we last shade a victory? One which was perhaps undeserved for periods or atleast evenly balanced? It's not a criticism of today because you have to say it was a good point which looked beyond us for an hour. We were infuriating and promising in equal measure today, and whilst I wasn't happy with the first hour it was very encouraging to see how we took control of the game and finished by far the stronger. Think the tactical switches and substitutions played a large part in that, but equally the momentum gained from Luis' goal was crucial. The team didn't seem to function until suso's introduction, and it's encouraging to see that the manager is able and willing to change the set up during matches to counter act any weeknesses that the opposition my be exploiting. Just hope we can learn from any mistakes which meant we had to change things in the first place. All in all though cannot be too disappointed. Been very critical of Enrique but he really grew in to the game today and was a reall asset so fair play. Johnson was boss as usual and just shows what we've missed. Carra played well, Jones made some crucial saves and Sterling kept on plugging away even if he wasnt always involved as much as we would've wanted. Luis was Luis, words can't do him justice. Major concerns for me had to be Allen looking well off the boil and Sahin being largely anonymous as he has been a few times recently. But all in all a good result at Stamford Bridge and any team in the league will be happy to take a point away from there this season. We showed character which is what I wanted to see. But the honeymoon period is coming to an end now. The fans have been very patient and rightly so, but we have a run of very winnable fixtures now and it's time we started racking some points on the board too keep the heat off Brendan and give us atleast a fighting chance of finishing the season strongly of we can recruit well in January. Big couple of months ahead.
  20. 3 at the back deffo makes sense though. We have to be pragmatic and work with what we have game by game, and if that means sacrificing some of our attacking and possession play for better solidity then it makes sense.
  21. That banner is fucking shit. Strange one this today. Could quite easily see us winning, yet also wouldn't be surprised to see us trounced 3 or 4 nil. If we don't score first we haven't a hope.
  22. Has Henry and Werner been over at all this season? I think Werner was at the City game but I don't recall seeing any of them since. Bit strange given its November already.
  23. Think you're reading far too much in to that to be honest mate.
