  1. sent - bad feeling on this as BBC are now saying Hicks is trying to sell to Mill Financial (again). Maybe our only option is for RBS to put us into administration, so we're sure Hicks and co. are out for good? I'd be much more comfortable with a 9 point reduction than this goind on for much longer.
  2. Any relation to Hicks? http://www.justpressplay.net/images/stories/gary_oldman.jpg
  3. Looks like Konchesky is back for this one, so I'd go with him. Everton will play long balls so I'm not sure we need 3 midfielders for this one, but not to sure N'gog or Babel will be up for it. They'll lose to many balls in a high paced game like this. Will miss Dirk for this one, but hopefully we're on a high IF G&H are out and the light at the end of the tunnel finally breaks through. This could go either way, but I doubt it will be a draw. I'll be hoping for something like this, but I fear Poulsen will be in there with Lucas and then Meireles playing on the right (oh lord): -------------------------Reina-------------------------- Johnson------------Soto-------------Carragher---------Konchesky ---------------Lucas-------------Meireles---------------- Maxi-----------------Gerrard---------------------Cole ---------------------------Torres-------------------------
  4. Ian Ayre turned it around, didn't he? Before he was on Hicks's side, but something made him turn around. Maybe this was a consequence of the Rhone Group offer being rejected? What ever made Ayre team up with Broughton and Purslow is for the better and I'm delighted it happend because if not then Hicks would still be in the driving seat.
  5. From the Guardian: My colleague Gregg Roughley (yes, a Liverpool fan) says: "Liverpool fans might enjoy knowing that on Margaret Thatcher's 85th birthday she'll be watching nothing but celebrating scousers and miners all day on TV."
  6. The whole team got slated - except the goalkeeper (Anders Lindegaard) that replaced an injured Sørensen after Denmark went down 2-0. United are after him - we've been scouting him as well. The game against Portugal is a game that should've suited Poulsen. He would get plenty to do defensively and that's where his strength lies. He had a nightmare. It happens. Every players makes mistakes - how about Gerrard pass to Drogba last year. Then he's shit aswell I guess? Good players have bad games more likely. Poulsen has had a bad start to his Liverpool carreer, but it sure doesn't help when the teams as a whole are strugling and he's playing games he really shouldn't, Blackpoll e.g. I'm sying this in order to defend him, cause I do think he'll struggle with the high pace in th PL, but he should be played to his strength. It's like playing Meireles at the right, it's just not naturel for him do to the job you'd normally expect of an attacking minded winger. Poulsen shouldn't be in our strongest 11. That's not saying he can't do a job for us, but Hodgson should know what to expect of him.
  7. Any chance of Kuyt moving up along side Torres with Cole on the right? I don't have too many complaints with the lineup. Lucas + Poulsen isn't nice, but ok in this game only because we don't really need to win. Didn't like Hodgson saying that 1 point from this one might be a good result, but then again - it might. We don't need to win it, but with Cole, Kuyt and Torres in there you'd expect us to! We need a confidence booster, but this won't be easy mainly because we got too many palyers who don't offer anything going forward and we're far from solid defensively.
  8. I think we'll have done fairly well if a good forward comes in. We don't have the money, so I think if you look at each deal it's not ecaxtly weakend the team: Wilson and Shelvey are for the future, but seems talented Poulsen for Aquilani (didn't make any impact) Jovanovic for Reira (wasn't playing anyway) Cole for Benayoun (an upgrade + homegrown which we needed) Konchesky for Insua (a small upgrade I'd say + homegrown which we needed) Meireles for Mascherano (different kind of player, but feels like a loss) The key thing is that we had to finance bying a forward with the money from sales and the Mascherano sale is significant here. We should have the money to bring in some one at £10 mill or even more? Some of the names that are mentioned are quite interesting and actually a little surprising. Benzema or Llorente would be epic - I'd almost hope we then changed to 4-4-2 (if so do we need a replacement for Lucas?). Sending Aquilani out on loan is a bit weird and might not have been the right way to go. If we can afford sending him away for nothing then I think its really dissapointing if we can't afford a good forward? Did we need Meireles if Aquilani was still in the squad? All I'm saying the money was there to go get a forward before replacing people in other areas that wasn't as desperate for improvement. A forward should have been first priority all summer - at least money was there at some point.
  9. If there isn't a bid or a deal on the table that involves Lucas then why shouldn't he play (expect that he's shit)?
  10. Agree with the first post. Hopefully Roy/Purslow get midfield plus a quality backup/partner for Torres in this window. I hope Cole will play on the left and while Konchesky isn't my first choice I do believe he's better than Insua, so that's a step up aswell. Hopefully soon we can get a new strong central defender in. I think we need to see something impressive from Skretel this season or he could be sold.
  11. If Roy wants us to play this is the time to do it - it sure wasn't last monday. I'd go with Irishlad for the lineup, but an alternative 4-4-2 formation could be: Reina Johnson Carragher Agger Aurelio Babel Poulsen Gerrard Milan Kuyt Torres
  12. HODGSON TO KOP A SECOND COLE Mereiles and Konchesky to seal moves COLE: West Ham will sell for £10m By Andy Dunn Follow me on Twitter ROY HODGSON will make a last-ditch attempt to take Carlton Cole to Anfield as he embarks on a late transfer window spending spree. The Liverpool manager has already committed over half of the money generated by the sale of Javier Mascherano to the signings of Raul Meireles and Paul Konchesky. And his sights have now turned to bringing in top-class striking reinforcements. Peter Crouch had become his No 1 target but it is now clear that Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp will not part with the England striker. Kenny Dalglish was despatched to watch PSV forward Ola Toivonen last weeked but there is a feeling that - at the Dutch club's asking price of £13million - the Swede is over-priced. Toivonen is still on the club's radar but Hodgson will now focus on Cole, who has endured a tough start to his West Ham season. Hodgson will offer cash plus a couple of players and might even be prepared to do a deal that would take Ryan Babel to Upton Park. Midfielder Lucas is certainly one that would be available to become a makeweight in any deal. West Ham have said Cole is not for sale but the News of the World understands they would take a fee of around £10million. Hodgson could get that sort of money together as he has been given licence to spend the Mascherano fee - in excess of £20m - and a bit more. But the Liverpool chief would prefer to offer West Ham a player-plus-cash deal for the 26-year-old striker. If that was accepted, Hodgson would have funds to add another player or two to his squad. As well as a striker to provide much-needed assistance for Fernando Torres, Hodgson believes that he needs another midfielder - especially as they have now reached the demanding group stages of the Europa League. That is why he did not countenance a possible sale of Dirk Kuyt, even though the Dutch player's agent had clearly been busy with his European contacts. Liverpool were upset with former Kop boss Rafa Benitez for unsettling Kuyt. The Spaniard's original Anfield contract - seen by the News of the World - included a specific clause, outlawing him from 'directly or indirectly' soliciting Liverppol players for a six-month period after his departure from the club. KUYT: Unsettled by RafaAnfield sources suggest the clause remained even after he signed a new deal. Kuyt could still yet leave Anfield. It will not be in this transfer window but Liverpool might be tempted to sell at the right price in January. A bid in excess of £10m would certainly test their resolve to hold on to the Dutchman. As Argentine midfielder Mascherano was completing the formalities of his move to Barcelona, Hodgson wasted no time in beginning his late outlay. After enquiries about Real Madrd midfielder Mahamadou Diarra came to nothing, Hodgson turned to 27-year-old defensive midfielder Meireles, whose arrival from Porto should be rubber-stamped today - along with the £4m signing of Konchesky from Hodgson's former club Fulham. Indeed, Liverpool have confirmed a fee has been agreed for Meireles with a routine medical set to be completed soon. ------ Would be ace if we could send Lucas to West Ham, get Cole and then another central midfielder. Tha paper may not be the best, but what about Andy Dunn? Would you believe anything he wrote?
  13. Piece on NOTW about ROy going for Carlton Cole and that he wants to send Lucas the other way. Not saying its true, but could add up with Lucas wanting to go to London.
  14. According to wiki: Portuguese pronunciation: [ʁɐˈuɫ mɐjˈɾɛl(ɨ)ʃ] ra-UL may-RELsh; Didn't make it any easier.
  15. Perhaps we could send Lucas to Udinese and then get Inler? Don't know Inler at all, but sounds boss
  16. As long as he doesn't turn up for the FA cup final wearing that then I'm ok with that.
  17. They said it was £30.000 with us and that he would get almost three times that playing for Barcelonan. Think £85.000 has been mentionen. Even if he did "pay" 3 mill euro's out of his new contract with Barcelona he'll still get a lot more.
  18. Not exactly Roy idea of pass and move is it? To be fair it is hard with the players in the squad tonight, but this is just very painfull to watch. Roy can say that this competition is not a priority, but we should be able to compete on this level.
  19. Why do we keep hoofing the ball up towards N'gog who can't hold on to it anyway? We got 3 central midfielders, but hey, lets hoof it again again. We're actually lucky not being more behind.
  20. Yes, that's true but it is still different from playing Cole behind N'gog (or Torres). You'd expect Berbatov and Rooney both getting above 15 league goals. I don't expect that from Cole behind a lone striker. I think the difference is that Rooney or Berbatov are more used to getting into the box than Cole in this role. Gerrard did well for us in that position, but I'd rather go with him were his playing now. I think we could see a major improvement if we had a decent left winger - or maybe play Cole out there and bring someone else in behind Torres.
  21. I think Ferguson changes it from time to time, but so fare this season it's been two up front from what I've seen. When teams fear you, like most do for some reason when playing the mancs, then it has some benefits, but the problem is that teams don't fear us anymore. Hence the big efforts we normally put in trying to be "in control" of the match = midfield. United are given control from the start (Allthough Fulham did well against them).
